a story about being so close and yet so far...the setting is the great sand dunes near alamosa, colorado, and how they torment men's souls. this was also a movie called gold of the seven saints, but hollywood missed the point..they should take another shot.

an accurate and chilling account of railroad competition trying to cross the continental divide of colorado in the dead of winter. the cover is misleading, but all railroad buffs will love this one. Painstaking historical research on behalf of the author makes this an all-time classic.

Two friends who were brought up together and were best of friends had made a pact with one another to save all the money they could in 10 yrs. and then meet in a certain part of the world and purchase a ranch. One of them is murdered near their meeting place and the survivor investigates. As he is solving the crime more and more complications appear. The book becomes way to complicated for my seriously injured brain. I tried very hard to stay with the program but I could not. So I quit. If I had not failed I think I would have given this book a five. And I did not down grade the book because I could not continue, because it's not the fault of the author it's mine.

This book is written for the pre-teen (which I was when I got this book in 1969).
It is written for the Lassie fan and brings home the perils of getting lost in the snow.
