The Post family applaudes Bob Burke
What can be said about the most factual biography written about Wiley Post. Kudos to Bob for telling the story of Wiley Post with the utmost accuracy and authenticity. His work brings to the reader a factual and conceise history of one of the worlds greatest avaitors. Once you start you want to read it from cover to cover. For avaition buffs this is a must read. Not only does it give a great deal of insight to the mentality of a fearless flyer, but provides the reader a look at an uneducated man who by dogged detrmination and force of will, circumnavigated the globe and designed the prototype of the modern space suite.

Outstanding for many reasons. Perfrectly researched.
Bob Burke as set an example for writers and researchers that will be hard to match in his wonderful work on Wiley Post. Aviation buffs, Oklahomans and anyone who appreciates a good book that is hard to put down will appreciate "From Oklahoma to Eternity: The Life of Wiley Post and The Winnie Mae". In addition to his excellent journalistic skills, Burke proves himself to be a superb researcher with a desire to mix truth, fact and adventure with a great story about a great man. I have added this book to my personal list of all time favorites and will look forward to more works by Bob Burke. It is so very refreshing to read history (I am a historian) written honestly without loads of mistakes and sloppy research. Keep that word processor fired up Mr. Burke!

Business, Ecology, Crime, Indians, & the Black Gold Rush
Superbly factual material on Oklahoma oil from 1880s to 1940s. Lots of early period data and lots of context for that data presented in a "just the facts" style -- locations, names, dates, technologies, economics & business drivers, disasters, prices, Indian compensation rates for oil leases, ecological mayhem, and boomtown sociology (complete with Prohibition, gangsters, tent revivals, gun-toting Methodist ministers, and the kidnapping of a rich oilman for ransom by Machine Gun Kelly). The Oklahoma oil boom & bust couldn't have a better documentarian than Franks. Many worthwhile photographs, too, but most are of poor quality and some primitive hand retouching reduces their value.

Washington Irving and Oklahoma
This book consists of a concise list and description of a variety of historic sites, markers and museums selected by the Oklahoma Historical Society as prime areas representative of the state's history. Full of side notes, this little book will be a welcome addition to the library of any dedicated Oklahomaphile.

A note that caught my attention (Harold Ross, the first editor of The New Yorker, once said that writers are very writer conscious) concerns Washington Irving. His trip to Oklahoma in 1932 is commemorated by two markers in the Sooner State. One marks his first campsite near old highway 66 in Arcadia. It was here that he hunted wild horses, and experience he recorded in his classic A TOUR ON THE PRAIRIES. The second marker is on US Highway 64, north of Bixby. The authors write, "Because of Irving's visit to the area, an attempt was made at the Oklahoma Constitutional Convention to call the Tulsa area "Irving" in his honor.

There's a handy map in the back of the book, clearly keyed, to help the reader locate quickly and easily points of interest.
