A great read for little ones
I read this book in preperation for a presentation that I had to give on changing families. Based on the cognitive level of preschoolers, it was the best book that I read for children dealing with Mommy being away, even for just a little bit. Children love animals and the book gets to the point without doing alot of explaining. The most important message is the clearest, that there is no one like Mommy and she always comes back. Oh, and the kids I tested it on loved this book too.

This is a great book!
My son just happens to be named Joshua so this book is extra special to us, when I read it to my son, he thinks it was written just for him and he pays extra attention to the story. This is a funny book all about manners and it has a funny way of teaching when to use certain phrases, such as good luck and congratulations, it always makes us laugh and enjoy our time together. This is a great book, we love it!

My two year old and I LOVE this
There is a lot of children's music out there that grates on adults' nerves. This music is enjoyable for young and old alike. The illustrations are delightful.

This is a great set!
This set comes with a little doll named Joshua, wearing a little diaper, a little potty, a story book, and a video. The video has a nice little story and a catchy song for the kids showing other kids, and the end has helpful information for the parents. My two boys loved it! They would sing it once they went to the potty-potty.

Haven't found a better potty-training book yet!
My son is attempting the potty-training hurdle and this book has been a great help! He can relate to the anatomy of the little boy. Seeing the steps he takes to finally achieve the ultimate goal is a big help. This book is a great tool to use. I use it as a guide in creating our own story, and let's face it, every child has there own version of potty training that is very unique to them.
This book was an excellent potty training tool.
The brightly colored book with the imaginative story of a little girl learning to cope with her bodily functions was a tremendous aide in training my daughter. The simple language and pictorials were easily understood by a young mind and the positive reinforcement of the story was encouraging for her. This book made the task of explanation much easier. It became a favorite story book of hers!
A Cherished Classic
This is THE potty training book. It has it all, bright graphics, simple language, fun story, and an anatomically correct hero. I had this as a kid, and we enjoyed reading the kitchy little story even well after we were potty-trained. A must have for every toddler's shelf!

Not impressed
After hearing so much about "Once Upon a Potty" , I was thrilled when my daughter received the book and audiocassette for a Christmas gift. After reading the book and listening to the tape, I was disappointed. The lanuage was very infantile (although you are encouraged to substitute your own words for urination and defacation). The potty that was pictured looked like a ceramic pitcher which could cause confusion to children exposed to ceramic plant holders. My 23 month old daughter was not interested in this particular book on toilet learning, although she loves others. If you buy it I hope you like it more than I did.
Kids will get the concept of potty from this book
I am still training my daughter but this book has helped her to understand the concept. The illustrations are simple and the plain descriptions of our body parts makes reading this book easy.
My oldest daughter also learned to go potty from this book (although it seemed to go faster for her...) and it is still a favorite as she helps me read it to her younger sister.
This book would make a great shower gift and will be a timeless classic for parents.
My daughter loved this
My daughter had the vhs tape, book and a Prudence doll with her own potty. This is a wonderful tool for helping children understand the concept. Also, it seemed that my daughter related to it as well. She'd read the book and place her prudence doll on the potty as she sat on the potty herself. Additionally, she LOVED the video. Especially the end where all of the children sang the potty song.
Great product.

pretty good
My kids enjoy when I read it to them, Some of the things it says is strange, like a dinosaur being depressed and a parrot being lazy and a grandfather talking about politics, so at times it is a little over my 2 and 4 yr olds heads, but it does help teach the concept of counting

My daughter loves this book
My 2+ year old LOVES this book. It takes the child through the average bedtime routine, asking questions (where do you sleep (warning: Prudence sleeps in a bed, NOT a crib), why do you dream and explainations (what are dreams, etc.). At the end of the story is a sweet, simple lullaby that she sings to us instead of us singing to her! My only problem with the book is that it's VERY wordy - not a quick bedtime story. Illustrations are typical of all the Alona Frankel books.

A gentle introduction to potty training
My then 14 month old son received this book for Christmas from his Aunt who swore by the video when she potty trained my nephew, Joshua, 12 years ago. Now Trent is 19 months old and the "Baby Book" as he calls it, is a must read every night (along with 4 or 5 five other favorites). My son loves this book because it's interactive - he loves to point to his body parts, he loves to shake his head no when Joshua tries to figure out if his new potty is a hat, a flowerpot, or a birdbath, and he loves to wave and say bye bye to Joshua's "pee pee" and "poo poo". My husband and I love this book because we have been able to bring up the issue of the "potty" in relation to everyday life and it's not a scary or foreign concept to him once we begin potty training in earnest.
My son loves this book!
The pictures are cute and colorful. The message is good because Joshua's mother explains that Joshua still needs to wear diapers for a while even though he's trying to use the potty. It doesn't pressure kids to be successful right away. My 2 year old thinks it's hilarious to point out the "poo-poo" in each picture, and tells Joshua that it's ok when he misses the potty. He also loves the part where Joshua is trying to guess what the new present is. The book asks "Is it a hat?". My son squishes up his face and says "No! It's not a hat!". It's also easy to change the descriptions to whatever phrases you use (we say going pee-pee instead of making wee-wee). This book is a classic for a reason!
My son likes it ...
He likes it, and he talks about Joshua (and has memorized the story, for the most part). But he's still not trained. Oh, well.
My only complaint about the book is that the potty looks like a giant vase rather than ANY potty you'll ever see. Otherwise, it's an easy read and entertaining for 2-3 year olds.
