Why isn't this book published in english. This is absurd. Shame on you Birkhauser. Long live Zevi. Viva Italia.

Full wright in a small book...
This book is a good monography to have in one very small size book, almost all the project made by wright. all the buildings are presented cronologically with b/w pictures and a small text, some drawings follow some projects. The text made by Bruno Zevi, is also very interesting. One very important things about this book, is that it is in GERMAN & FRENCH only!

The author gives you some really interesting and effective strategies for studying(I've tried them - and got 104% on the next test I took), writing papers, scheduling your time. Christ & the Caesars: The Origin of Christianity from Romanized Greek Culture

A great book by a great but forgotten intellectual.
The fact that the writings of Bruno Bauer (1809-1882) are only now being translated into English is cause for celebration and so I highly recommend this publication. Bruno Bauer is one of the great unsung intellectuals of history. He was imitated by many famous minds of his time, including Karl Marx and Friedrich Nietzsche. This book, CHRIST AND THE CAESARS (1877) was the last of his dozen great tomes on Christianity.

What is most remarkable about this book is that Bruno Bauer goes down to text-by-text comparisons of the New Testament and the Epistles of the great Stoic writer, Lucius Seneca (tutor to Nero Caesar), in order to research keywords and key phrases common to both.

Actually, this had been done many centuries ago to some degree, but with a different twist. The Early Fathers of the Christian Church had presumed that Seneca's writings resembled New Testament writings so much because Seneca 'must have been' a secret Christian. There is even an ancient forgery that claims to be a cordial, personal correspondence between Seneca and St. Paul.

However, Bruno Bauer cited the latest 19th century scholarship to show that if there were identical words and phrases between the writings of Seneca and the writings of the New Testament, the copying was all on the New Testament side, because Seneca wrote his Epistles a full generation before St. Paul wrote his.

That only gets us to chapter two.

Another remarkable fact about this book (a fact that I recently brought to the attention of Elaine Pagels) is that Bruno Bauer demonstrates that St. Paul's texts were clearly Gnostic in many essentials. Now, Elaine Pagels says she did not read Bruno Bauer, and I believe her, but every single citation made by Bauer about St. Paul's alleged Gnosticism is included in Ms. Pagels work on St. Paul (although Ms. Pagels goes on to give three times more examples than Bruno Bauer did in 1877). To me, this says a great deal about Bauer's insight so long ago.

This writing by Bruno Bauer has a key theme - that the writers of the New Testament were influenced to a significant degree by the existing Roman philosophers of the day, including Seneca, Philo, Josephus and others. Bauer does not just state this or give a few examples, but he provides a rigorous textual analysis and a penetrating historical analysis to make his points.

This book, like most books by Bruno Bauer, was not translated into English until a century after his death. This was unfair because he was so influential in his own day, but it is understandable when we recognize that Bauer was attacked by both the left wing as well as the right wing. Bauer's anti-communist stance earned him the total rejection of Marx and the Marxists, while Bauer's demand that we take a scientific approach to the Bible earned him the total rejection of fundamentalists and the right-wing regime of Prussia in 1841.

Although this translation has many typographical errors and the wit, wisdom and genius of Bauer's prose does not shine through this translation, the fact is that this is the first edition of the first time that CHRIST AND THE CAESARS has been translated into English, and if a second edition will ever come, this first edition must be successful. That is why I give it the highest rating. I believe in Bauer, and I want him to have more attention.

A moving meditation upon an iconic figure
"Dear Anne Frank" is a volume of poems about the young Jewish girl who, after her death during the Nazi Holocaust, became immortalized through the publication of her recovered diary. The author, Marjorie Agosin, is the descendant of European Jews who escaped the Holocaust; Agosin was raised in Chile. This is a bilingual edition, with Agosin's Spanish poems and the English translations on facing pages. Richard Schaaf is the primary translator, with additional translation done by Cola Franzen and Monica Bruno.

The book also includes Agosin's fascinating introductory essay, "Anne Frank or the Landscape Uprooted" (both in Spanish and in English translation). In this essay Agosin draws connections between the Nazi Holocaust and the atrocities committed under certain Latin American dictatorships.

Agosin's poems are somber and lean. Her voice is at times angry, at times compassionate, at times even a little wistful. She explores Anne Frank's role as young woman, as martyr, as writer, and as iconic figure. This is an important volume for those interested in Latin American literature, Holocaust studies, 20th century poetry, or Jewish studies.

Wonderful aid for the painfully shy
I've been suffering from shyness since I was little girl. I remember not being able to stand in front of a room and present a report, or even worse... I could not even be part of a family celebration. I'd die of embarrassment if I said anything wrong. Bruno's work is a great tool for conquering shyness. I highly recommend it.

I am a constant worrier, but never really thought so. It was such a part of my life, and for so long. On a whim, I purchased this book and realized how much needless worrying I had in my life. I found this book to be very refreshing and have noticed how the exercises have changed my self-confidence and outlook on life. I still have a long ways to go, but this book has helped me deal with some of my worry and anxiety. Well recommended for those who are looking for a different approach.

Cervantes: Roman
Bruno Frank takes the reader on an imaginary journey through the life of Miguel Cervantes, a life filled with extreme highs and lows of 15th century Spain. Historically accurate with just the right taste of "perhaps," this novel culminates with Cervantes' creation of Don Quijote, his masterpiece work. The last chapter alone is worth the reading.

Ditto to "reader from USA." Get *The Now Habit* by Neil Fiore

not very helpful
How do you overcome procrastination? The author takes a whole book to say, in effect, "Just do it." Thanks. If that worked, my mother would have broken me of my habit when I was twelve.

This books help you to motivate yourself.
It took me a while to read this book, but I did. The one thing that this book did for me was to get me to use all my time wisely. The book was very thorough even though not all the situations the author referred to applied to me. The reason I wanted this book was because I'm in high school, I used to put off all my homework until late at night and I wasn't doing anything else productive with my time. Now, I'm on the cross-country team and I'm getting more sleep than I used to. I feel more confident. I wonder if the other poeple who reviewed the book even read it because the book does a good job of helping you understand yourself better. If you want to stop procrastinating and won't put off reading the book, get it.
