Mary Calhoun should continue this series. IT ROCKS!
Katie John is a character I grew up with, and the books about her are filled with fun, adventures, and funny things that happen, while teaching good vurtues. Which is more than I can say for some of the depressing childrens' books in the bookstores and libraries today. The author should keep writing!

Fun reading!
I loved Katie John; she was such a tomboy, and -- being one myself -- I enjoyed watching her get in and out of trouble and excitement. A definite must-read.

A tenacious heroine, scrappy and unique.
Katie John and her folks move into a huge old house. Katie John is into everything, and the fun begins! Don't miss the part where Katie John gets her finger stuck in the speaking hole!

I grew up with Katie John, and I can hardly wait for my new copy of this, her first book, to arrive at my house. Katie John is a wide-open, hysterical heroine for kids of all ages!

The Broken Anchor Mystery
This is defently a must read even though its as good as most other Nancy Drew books. It is still as exciting, and mysterious and it will leave you guessing until the end. Iloved every minute of reading it and i couldn't out the book down until the mystery was solved. I defently give this book 5 stars.

The Demon's Den (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories, No 81)

Collectible price: $17.00

Best Ever!
I thought that this book wouldn't be as good as "Mystery Of Smugglers' Cove. But I was definitely wrong! "The Demon's Den" has some surprising text, teriffic, never-ending action, and the plot was totally freaky. Demons, superhumans, Old Sam, and so on. You just can't miss this one!

Thrilling book, written in an unexpected way
I think that this just about beats Mystery of Smugglers' Cove. Matter of fact, it does. Sometimes in the book there's some scary (but not bad) language. It's surprising how Franklin Dixon got this idea for this sort of writing in the book. It's also a great book on genetic engineering and science. It's amazing about Rhee doing his tricks, and the action is normal, but wonderfully done. So take the time to read this book, and you won't think there's any better Hardy Boys book (and it's true, you'll believe me). Bon Reading it! (Enjoy reading it)!

With Nancy Drew, it's always great
This book ewas really good. It has some good charecters. It was also really exciting. Like when Nancy goes to investigate. That part is creepy. So, this is a good book, and totally worth buying!

the haunted carousel
i thought this book was great, and that it was really fun to read. it was very mysterious and creepy, and if you like those kind of mysteries, then surely you'll love this book. what i liked about it was that it had a lot of interesting parts in it, such as: nancy chasing a thief through a haunted house in a carnival, sneaking around in a building and trying to ward off bad guys, trying to figure out a REALLY puzzling note, etc. i think that if you love mysteries, you'll like this book.

My favorite childhood series
Katie John continues in her own way to plot out her own way. She was my hero when I was a child and I have enjoyed sharing her with my daughter. Buy the book! Buy the whole series. It is so much fun.

Katie is a girl like Beverly Cleary's Ellen Tebbits
I read this book when I was 9 in 4th grade. In summer 1985 I was with my family on vacation on the washinton coast staying in a cabin in Grays Harbor area, and Mom would go garage sale-ing during the day. She bought this book for 10c and I knew I was going to like it. The inside title page showed Katie on her bike and she reminded me of Beverly Cleary's Ellen Tebbits. I fell in love with Katie that summer day. The book is so good and Katie is so much like me. EVERYONE, READ KATIE JOHN! Mary should continue this series. It is good and I'm sure a lot of people agree!

This was the book that initiated my love for reading.
This was the book that initiated my love for reading. As a fourth grader, I was drawn to the title as well as to its apparent 'novel-like' format relative to the slimmer picture books that were on the lower grade shelves in the school library. For the first time, I found myself being pulled into a storyline, so absorbed by the mystery that unfolds that I couldn't put the book down. (I think that it took me two or three days to finish as a nine-year-old, and I found myself re-reading it until I could recite dialogue: "Home," shouted Jed. "Milk and Cookies," shouted Bill. Liza ran to the front door....) I also remember being impressed by how well the family got along, including the three sibling protagonists.

I highly recommend this book as a starter 'novel' for young children who are prone to becoming avid readers. Follow-up with the more complex Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew mysteries, the Chronicles of Narnia, Robertson's "Henry Reed" series, and M. L'Engles "Time Quartet" (A Wrinkle in Time.)

Great fun for kids who love solving mysteries!
I read this book when I was in grade school. I am now a mother of four children, the oldest is 9 and the youngest is 9 months. I have been looking for this book for a couple of years off and on so I could read it to my children. I loved reading this book as a child and want to share that experience with my children. I know they will love this story as well, and it will give me a chance to spend some good quality time with them as they learn to love to read. This book started my interest in mystery solving novels. It was very popular in my school and on high demand. I checked out of my school library several times to re-read it when I could. I LOVED IT!!

My childhood favorite!
As a child, I read this book from front to back countless times. I loved this book! Haunted House is perfect for young readers. The end result is the love of reading and the fueling of a young mind's imagination. Get this book for a young reader and you've given them a book that is my most cherished childhood story!
