Manual of Prayers - A truly wonderful book
After purchasing the Manual of Prayers, I found my prayer life had greatly improved. I have been greatly blessed by it. It comes leather bound in 2 colors, black and burgundy. It was such a blessing fort me that I had to get one for a friend. It is good for those who have a hard time praying. It makes it easier to start a prayer or gives one ideas on how to pray. It is a wonderful book that is nothing short of priceless.

A needed prayer book for priests and all Catholics
As a priest recently returned from Rome after two years of graduate study at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (the Angelicum), who lived and prayed at the Pontifical North American College Casa Santa Maria, I can recommend no finer book of prayers for priests and lay Catholics.

Prayer is essential in the life of every person. Catholics have read the Scriptures, worshipped God in the sacrifice of the Mass, prayed the Rosary and the Stations of the Cross, used the psalms to pray and sing, and have used many other prayer forms for nearly 2000 years. Prayer is essential!

The Manual of Prayers continues this tradition. The need to bring forth from our storehouse the greatest of Catholic treasures combines with the need to compose beautiful prayers suited for today. The depth and scope of its scholarship, its fidelity to the faith, and the beauty of its prayers fill the need today for a prayer book in the Catholic tradition. Beautifully presented, made to last, portable and complete, the Manual of Prayers is one to treasure and use every day of one's life.

The most wonderful and complete prayer book ever!
My priest introduced me to this prayer book. As a cradle catholic of 40 plus years I am truly blessed to own a copy. It contains basic Catholic prayers, novenas, prayers for various needs and also has the Latin form of prayers. It is beautifully bound in black leather, gilded page edges, 2 ribbon markers, and a handy case to keep it in. It is truly heirloom quality. Will make a great gift for cradle catholics as well as converts. Originally written for the students of the Pontifical North American College. A must have for all Catholics.

The Einstein Gold (or God) Age
All the Einstein life is very intersting! For the 20st centuryworld life the 1900-1909 Einstein period is the apex of his scientificcontributions, specially for three papers: those about the Brownian Movement, the Photoelectric Effects and Eletromagnetic Effects when there is a referencial change. All three papers brought to ous news interpretations of those phenomena and revealed the Einstein interpretation capacity of visible and not-visible world. The paper about Photoelectric Effects presented a new quantum views of ligh and material interaction while the Eletromagnetic Effects showed the principles of Special Relativity, a theme that transverse the 20st century and arrive at 21st century without popular technology applications. This book brings a opened, stimulant, and helpful explanations - great lectures - about the principals Einstein ideas. Maybe this book is the first to point closely the life and thinking of a science men.

An extraordinary collection
Readers-

One might question why you might purchase a book such as this. Well the answer is quite simple. Logic. Now when I say logic I don't mean the logic of the words themselves rather the logic that you might read such an impressive work.

Einstien was a genius in his time, a genius yet to be surpassed (in the authority of Science that is). His works are timeless, classic examples of the scientific process and this particular is a well-balanced example.

Written during the years of the 1910s this volume's works depict a dedication to science even through the war in Europe.

A Must Read!

A very good book, but beware recent changes in the law.
I used this book to teach a law school course in the Czech Republic. It has an excellent selection of cases from which to teach the major areas of European Union (or European Community depending on your view) law. Get the most recent available supplement (1996 to my knowledge) and realize that there have been recent significant changes in this area of law.

An Average Book
After reading a few chapters from this book and compared it to other Fluid Mech books like Frank M. White's Fluid Mechanics and Fundamental of Fluid Mechanics by Munson, Young & Okiishi, I would say this book doesn't provide enough explanation to the various topics in Fluid Mechanics which the other authors did.
If you are the type who prefers to read something lighter, this book will be suitable for you. But for those who prefer to read up & learn more about Fluid Mechanics, Frank White will be a better choice although beginners who are new to Fluid Mech will find White's book a bit hard to understand.
Personally, I would say the best Fluid Book i have ever read will be Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics by Young, Munson & Okiisi. Please refer to the review of that book for more info

The best introductory fluid mechanics book out there!!
Whether you are a student, or actually working in the field, this book is a great first step in fluid mechanics. Tons of problems and good examples in every chapter make this book not only easy to understand, but somewhat enjoyable too!!! You don't get that very often! If you have problems with this book, like 4.0 boy below, then there is obvious problems with your studying habits. Should have gone to Purdue University!!
Good buy I would recommend it to anyone.

I still refer to it 5 years later....
I used this book as an undergrad and found the many examples very helpful in doing the homework problems. I still refer to this textbook quite often as an aeronautical engineer. If you've had a few math courses it isn't too challenging. It is a very good explanation of the basics!

An excellent introduction to Catholic homeschooling
This is the book that singlehandedly convinced my wife and myself to seriously consider homeschooling our children. I was, as some of my friends can attest, very suspicious of the idea of homeschooling, and frankly, had seen some abuses take place. I am still critical of some of the methods and rationales of some homeschoolers -- but they probably have the same view of myself and my methods!

However, this book changed my mind. Dr. Clark describes in painstaking detail using the Scriptures, the teachings of the Church, and examples from history the benefits and justifications for the homeschooling of children. Each chapter set out, in detail, a separate theme discussing various aspects of homeschooling. Included were chapters dealing with difficult issues, such as the role of the father in homeschooling, homeschooling in a single parent household, dealing with children with special needs, legal aspects to homeschooling, etc.

It also demonstrated an openness by Catholic homeschoolers for the rights of Protestant homeschoolers. Unfortunately, in my experience, the same openness has not been demonstrated flowing back the other way.

If the book has a flaw at all, it is that it is a bit dated. The section on computers could stand a major update, and legal issues change so frequently that, while the general legal information is quite valuable, anything specific needs to be updated as well.

It is my hope that the author and publisher strongly consider a revised edition.

Comments on the book itself
This book is organized into chapter section each focusing on a step in the process of becoming a homeschooler, and then succeeding at it. The book begins with several sections devoted to justification and support of homeschooling using Catholic tradition and biblical interpretation as well as a section written by a priest advocating such a system. This is followed by sections on the process of setting up a homeschool including the examination of curriculum, the organization of space, managing the household while teaching, and maintaining discipline. There is also a helpful section on incorporating the sacraments and practices related to the liturgical calendar in the lesson plans and another on socialization.

Also contained are sections regarding the legalities of homeschooling, how to repsond to authorities, use of technology in homeschooling, homeschooling in the highschool years, and the future of homeschooling both in terms of the future for an individual who is homeschooled and for the practice itself.

It is true that in this book Dr. Clark is a stong supporter of homeschooling and combined with her socially conservative postions can be intimidating. The book will probably not change the minds of those who are catagorically opposed to homeschooling, but may give those who are "on the fence," if you will, a push in this direction, and will definately provide encouragement to those who currently teach at home. It is also true that Dr. Clark does not make secret the fact that she is the director of Seton Home Study, but she offers room for those who design their own curriculum or use another. In the book, Dr. Clark gives credit where credit is due for the establishment of this school.

For a begining homeschooler this book offers much in the way of process and tips but is best read as each chapter is needed as it can be itimidating to read in order.

Best start to develop a philosophy for your family
This is the first book I recommend to families looking for information on Catholic home education. Dr. Mary Kay Clark, Director of Seton Home Study School, has devoted much of her life to Catholic education to help her family and others. Her zeal and success, chronicled in this book, fills the reader with a confidence which has deep roots. A parent who reads this book will come away with an understanding that homeschooling does not have to be just a stop-gap measure until a "good" Catholic school is found. Catholic homeschooling can become a life for you and your family.

Before embarking on the home education journey, two very important question parents should ask themselves is "Why do we want to home school?" and "How and what do we use to accomplish our goals?" Dr. Clark's book addresses both with the emphasis on the first. Unless each family develops a philosophy and goals, the "how" and "what" will have no direction, possibly leading to burnout.

Reading this meaty book before others will help Catholics form a firm foundation. Be sure to have your own copy in hand with a highlighter!
