According to Roger Fowler, Linguistics is the support to a criticism that would consider both language and context in order to point out the special effects of language into the discourse. For him, the task of considering the subjective aspects of literature with a scientific eye towards its discourse only can be achieved with the support of Linguistics. A part from that, the author does not believe that literature is the only kind of discourse that deserves such approach. The reader will also find a large bibliography about every topic discussed.

This book is great for interperating George Orwell's literary style as well as his whole attitude and flow of writing. It helps you think about what you are reading when you read one of Orwell's books, thereby making the message clearer and easier to interperate.

I like to think of myself as having an eclectic style; I have many influences. I like some country and traditional elements. I had heard favorable things about Colefax and Fowler, so I thought this book would be a good representation of English country style. If this is the best, I would hate to see the worst. I don't think readers that want to explore English country should start with this book. It might turn them off. However, long-time fans of tradional and country styles might derive more benefit.

I am an interior decorator, and this book has wonderful suggestions for the beginner and seasoned pro. I abosolutely loved the ideas, and I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in decorating!

Having seen interior shots of homes decorated by the late Roger Banks-Pye I was quite keen to see a collected body of his work. It was as impressive as I thought it would be. Quirky - yes, inspiring - definitely, Banks-Pye would have gone on to be one of the major names in decorating and design. From his unique treatment of his apartment (formerly owned by Somerset Maugham) to his signature blue and white style found in his country home, everything about Interior Inspirations merely made one want to see more of his design principles. A very good idea source, and sadly, the sole compendium of Banks-Pye's work. Don't miss this classic if you like rooms that are warm, inviting, and eccentrically eclectic!

This is a wonderful book that explained my questions about the doctor/patient relationship. I think I am now a better patient and better understand the role of doctors in my life. I gave a copy to my cousin who is in medical school and she loved it as well.

Behind the White Coat takes the reader into the heart and soul of a physician. Dr. Farber shares with us the trials and tribulations that come with being a doctor in today's world. He also highlights those life changing and wonderful events that make it all worthwhile. This is a very good read and is highly recomended.

Excellent book for doctors and patients who want to understand the medical system and in particular, Behind the
White Coat is a valuable asset to medical students and "would-be" doctors and their families.
Patients can learn alot about their own health care and about those to whom they entrust their care. I think you will find it to be worthwhile reading and very timely in today's world.
