Recruiter's Web Bible
This book is terrific. Even with years of recruiting experience and a strong capability using the Web, I benefited from this systematic, comprehensive, detailed and up-to-date review of how to use the Web for attracting and finding the right candidates. It is easy to read, yet packed with great information that is well-organized and easy to access for reference. I highly recommend this book for company recruiters as well as outside recruiting firms and researchers.

Comprehensive, Thought-Provoking Resource
Recruiting top talent has always been an important objective for employers. Over the past few years, we have not seen the competitive intensity in recruiting that we saw in the go-go years of the late 1990s because of the slowed economy. This quieter period has given technologists and strategists a chance to catch up, to develop new approaches, to refine new systems. The new designs for attracting preferred candidates were not even available a few years ago; now they will be essential for employers desiring to find, attract, and hire the best talent to achieve their objectives.

Finding applicants through newspaper advertising will be with us for a while, for some jobs. Even some of those jobs are now offered through major job boards. For the positions beyond low-skilled welders, fast-food burger flippers, and convenience store clerks, employers will increasingly use the internet to recruit. This shift shatters the myth that hiring is local; the web is world-wide. Recruiting is global.

OK, with this historical and future-focused concept in mind, how do we do this on-line recruiting? Foster's book tells us-step by step at a strategic level and at a tactical level. It is not a book for webmasters, recruiting site developers, or code programmers. This book delivers on the higher levels, providing company owners, executives, and managers a valuable insight into what needs to be done and why. Human resource executives will find this volume very helpful. Some HR managers will find it a great tool to open deeper discussion with their superiors; others will find it more valuable in their efforts to understand where their leaders are trying to go.

The book begins, appropriately, with some of the "big picture" of recruiting, then turns to the use of the internet. In Chapter 1, there is a list of stages to the process of e-recruiting: recruit your friends, create or enhance your organization's recruiting web site, attract the best candidates, find passive candidates, and assess your applicants. The organization of the book is different, which may throw off a reader expecting an expansion of the five stages. Foster explores various aspects of the recruiting website in Part Two, but Part Three is titled Advertise Your Job Openings. Part Four is Searching for Passive Candidates, but there is not a separate section on assessing applicants-which will be an increasingly important aspect of e-recruiting. You'll find a tremendous amount of valuable insight in these pages.

The book is seasoned with a wide range of resources, mostly presented (understandably) as website addresses. Some I recognized, others I'd heard of, and there were still some the author missed (like www.....com for recruiting communities); but, this is a rapidly-changing field. Many readers will find themselves a bit overwhelmed and confused as they read this book. So much information all at once! Yes, that's the reality; and it's a good lesson. Read the book cover to cover, then go back with a highlighter and a pad (or note-taking computer file) to design the right strategy for your company. You'll be reading about cutting-edge ideas and resources, so don't expect to grasp it all right away. Commentary on trends and processes is well interwoven with things to do. Expect to be inspired, stimulated, and fully-loaded with work to do.

Great new ideas in this book
I attended AIRS classes several years ago and they changed the way I recruit and how I use the Internet. This book covers even more territory than the classes I attended, and has opened my eyes in new ways again. My company uses newspapers, job boards and job fairs to recruit, but there's no question we get the best candidates when we use AIRS techniques. AIRS is definitely the leader in this field, and seems to keep coming back with fresh new ideas. Highly recommended for anyone in recruiting or HR.

everthing you need to know
This book is the bible for anyone traveling to hawaii. You can plan your vacation based on the activities you like and you will not be disappointed by their recommendations. The hotel reviews are very accurate and I used the restuarant reviews exclusively. Even on my second trip I found the book to be extremely useful.

Great book, great island
We are planning our first trip to Hawaii and have been amazed on the amount of information that is out there. This book summarizes all of the hawaiian islands and helped us plan our 3 week trip. It reviews not only hotels, but restaurants, activities and hot spots to see. All for less than $20! I feel that it is a must for any traveler to the island.

Very informative, but might be a hard read for some.
Wordy and at times dificult to read, yet it had a very large amount of information for what seemed like such a small book. The author presents several different theories for each subject he discusses, instead of presenting one as the gospel truth, which I liked a lot. While you probably won't find this a fun or easy read, it's really detailed and informative for anyone who wants to know more about Schizophrenia.

Up-to-date and comprehensive
As a leading researcher in neuropsychological aspect of schizophrenia, Prof. Green has published many enlightening papers on American Journal of Psychiatry and Schizophrenia Bulletin. In this book, the editor tried to incorporate current concepts into a causal model that covering deeper psychopathological processes and more plenty explanation of outcome variances. The editor offered us comprehensive reviews on the details of neuropsychological paradigm and gave us some inspiration of further researches. This work is not only excellent in its comprehensiveness but also compendia in text.

An excellent overview of schizophrenia
Michael Foster Green's Schizophrenia Revealed discusses the extent of schizophrenia symptoms, from the influence of genetics and how the brain works to treatments, biological versus social influences, and the latest research on the condition. An excellent overview of schizophrenia.

"Schizophrenia Revealed" is an excellent up-to-date summary
Michael Foster Green is a Ph.D. in the UCLA Dept. of Psychiatry and is
the sole author of this book (as well as innumerable papers on this
subject in the scientific literature). While his prior book on
schizophrenia was clearly aimed at a professional audience, this
current one is eminently suitable for both lay and medical audiences.
It is up-to-the-minute in explaining this complex disease in cause,
diagnostic testing, and treatment. Physicians will find many useful
clues in making this difficult diagnosis and in how to structure
therapy. Of even greater value, this is the first down-to-earth, very
readable (and humorous) book to explain to families why this has
happened to loved ones. It is a very good book, and very well
written.

This book is user-friendly, rich in concept and practicality
This book is a user-friendly one. The question and answer format is used to its highest possiblity. It deals with all of those questions we never bothered to ask our high school religion nun or college theologian, and now wish we had. As both a civil and a canon lawyer dealing in divorce and annulments, I cannot think of one question not asked asked and answered here. The index makes it even easier to navigate the concepts explored. The result is a book that explains the concepts but also tells you how to deal practically with them in the context of the Church's laws and canons. This book takes the whole package of married life and puts it into Catholic perspective. This start to finish result, especially starting at the time of the marriage, is the crux of what so many do not understand about the Catholic Church and marriage. Foster's approach is totally successful just because of its simplicity. The book should be read by those thinking of marriage and not just those far down the road. It's assistance to both is what makes this book so important.

Go MAD: Make a Difference
My daughter LOVED this book. Sometimes I would hear her laughing from the other room as she read it. She would even bring up some of the issues she read about during dinner. She said that even though it was written by adults, it was presented in "her language" (funny, I thought she spoke English like the rest of us). She really liked the chapters by Mark Bernstein and Keith Hawkins in particular. Thanks for a great read. Go MAD is great!

Great Comparative Reference by M.D.
This book finally discusses the use of herbs and roots from an authoritative point of view. It compares common herbs to prescription medications, with an analysis of the ailment and each type of remedy. The authors and editorial staff have formal training from conventional medical schools and were able to do an actual comparative analysis of "natural herbal remedies" to over the counter and prescribed medications, for various common ailments. The book is well organized by malady, with an excellent reference guide for purchasing products and information on associations, and additional publications of interest. Good reading, very helpful.

Uniquely worth having
I looked at this book not expecting to get hooked and actually pay for it--I was sure it would be redundant (my mother and I both seem to have a weakness for these Rodale books, and--well, on a modest scale--we have amassed a library of them!). But I was disappointed to learn that this book is uniquely useful and informative in ways the other Rodale books don't overlap--in ways that I don't even think having access to the Internet, and its information on herbs, could conveniently replace. It's well laid out, too--you can access the herbal information you're looking for in a number of ways. Sighhhh. I'm afraid it's a keeper.

A Wonderful Reference
I originally picked this book up at the library while taking a class on herbal medicine and was so impressed with it that I bought a copy. It contains clear and concise information on a variety of ailments with not only the herbal remedies but also their drug counterparts. There are "recipes" for herbal mixtures for some of the ailments. This is a book that will be referred to time and time again.

Gordon has reached a new level in modern literature
Few people in the world have the imagination of Mike Gordon. While reading through his collection of daydreams and short stories one can't help but imagine just what goes on inside his head. In a time where it is difficult, if not impossible, to be original Mike Gordon has achieved just that. These motley tales take you to the outer limits of your mindscape and push you to think in ways you never thought possible.

Smegma Dogmatagram Fish Market Stew!! GO CACTUS!
Mike Gordon is able to capture the essence of the adjective. His wordings are the greatness of spike. Where can grammar go, from where Mike Gordon has taken us all? Its another plane. A minute piece of the past. Chilling realizations speak of its chime towards bone curdling flies. A time Lost? I truly think not. The emotional highpoints captured in the embrace between Winchester and Buggyboo brought a tear. And besides, does the "Corner" really exist. Figment. Figment is a part of life that cannot be avoided. A fig on the other hand creates love. Newtons of my youth spoke of a willing plea. A plea for literature. This literature is captured in the pleas of Mike Gordon. The many pleas thereof. Some are hard to replace, but for a book to stand alone, it must prioritize. Priorities are a necessity for a book to understand.

Give it a try!
If you're reading this review, you're probably a fan of Phish, like me. I think the stories in this book are phabulous. They are full of witty plays-on-words and some of the most hillarious stuff I've ever read. Admittedly, they are off-the-wall, and are only for acquired tastes. The story "PS" is a letter forecasting a fence being broken. The story "Suite # 102" is about rolling around on awnings, and "The case of the Yellow Ballots" contains the word "ballotwomanbeatereater." Need I say more? It sounds silly, but You'll have to see for yourself. Check it out at your bookstore.

A sweet story with a twist
Usually I absolutely hate novels that are supposed to be a collection of letters and/or diary entries for this simple reason, they are as transparent as saran wrap. Something along the lines of "I'm just jotting down a casual letter to inform you that I just had a terrible fight with so-and-so, here's what we said word for word complete with speaker attributes"

That's why I was so pleasantly suprised with this book. The writing is entertaining, intelligent and always realistic. That is EXACTLY how a person in their late teens, early twenties writes (I know, I'm a letter writer in that age group) and it is so refreshing to read an author who knows what she is talking about on the subject.

Judy Abbott is most certainly not a Pollyanna, she teases, gets angry and argues but she has a nice nature and always manages to patch things up. She is an orphan who writes to her mysterious benefactor whom she dubs "Daddy-Long-Legs". Because he is her fairy godmother for all purposes, she confides in him even though she knows he will never answer. The ending is marvelous with a great little twist. I think this book is great for girls 8-80 and am sorry I did not read it sooner

Hilarious/ Uplifting/Moving; My Absolute Favourite
One of my favourite, or shall I say, my ALL TIME favourite books about an aspiring authoress, and woman who wants to be considered, [in pre-World War I days when women didn't have voting rights!], at least "a useful citizen".

The protagonist, Jerusha (Judy) Abbot, an orphan whose name is picked off a tombstone and surname from the telephone directory,...remains one of the most believable and beautiful character portrayals in literature. Her sense of humour in the face of all odds, (a product of Webster's brilliant imagination and adept pen) kept me coming back to this book a countless number of times.

The superb narrative style, the book being a compilation of letters from a cheeky, unique woman growing up in the early part of this century to her benefactor who never replies, is stunning in it's currency to this day. It is hard to believe that a book, written almost over 90 years ago should still find an adoring audience. It deals with issues like women's independence, happiness, indentity and that old demon, 'love'! It is most definitely a "Classic". Rather like old wine it seems to have aged perfectly! I could go on forever, but will end by saying this is a MUST for every library and anyone who knows how good it is to be alive.

Very well written book
My sister made me read this book during my recent vacation. Since I am not a fan of books that consist of a series of letters, I was very skeptical about this one. But I must say that it is an excellent book. The author has beautifully portrayed the character of the orphan girl who gets a chance to go to college due to the generosity of a mysterious orphanage trustee. The letters highlight the girl's emotional highs and lows brilliantly, as she adjusts to (and then thrives in) this new environment that is so very different from where she grew up.

I am surprised that some people found a "twist" at the end of the book, I could guess the ending pretty early on. Anyway, its not the ending, but the individual letters that are the true gems in the book. I highly recommend this book for people that like character portrayals.
