Wonderful, wonderful book
I just read Touched by Fire, and had to write to tell everyone what a wonderful book it was. Even though I'm not "into" horses, I thought the story--actually two stories, since the author weaves a story from the past into the present--was so good I didn't want to stop reading even to make dinner! I HAD to find out what happened to Marguerite in the past, and Briar in the present, and how the author was going to tie together all the threads of both stories. And she did, in the most satisfying way possible. My only disappointment was that the book ended. I wanted to keep on reading and reading. I heartily recommend this book and I'm going to look for other books by this same author. She has a great writing style, and you feel you know the characters personally. Buy this book--you'll love it!

Wonderful horse-racing book!
I just read Touched by Fire and couldn't put it down! I've owned horses for many years, and the author knows horses, their personalities and quirks and is outstanding at depicting them. But even better is the way she develops the stories and the characters--both past and present. I felt I knew every one, and the way she wove the story of the past into the story of the present and then tied up all the loose ends of this complicated circle was amazing. The race at the end had ME racing through the pages until I finished--and then I was sorry I'd read so fast because I didn't want it to end. If you want a GREAT book to read, get Touched by Fire. Even if you don't like horses (and I can't imagine anyone who doesn't!), you'll love this book. I can't wait to read more by this author!

This is a great book!
I had to write about Siren Song, which I just finished reading. I love Broadway--especially musicals--and the author makes you feel that you're actually part of the process of mounting a Broadway production. I don't know how she did the research; it was wonderful! I also love wildlife, and the way she had the hero roaming the world documenting wildlife was so fascinating that I couldn't put the book down. The way she described the animals--the elephants in Africa, the tiger (I won't spoil it by telling you!) in India, the snow leopard in the Himalayas--was breathtaking. You felt like you were right THERE! I loved the story, too--the two women, singer and composer, and how they triumphed on Broadway after so many trials and tribulations, and how Keeley and Gabe had this fantastic love affair, and how he dedicated his most famous photographs to her; it was SO romantic without being "romancy." Read this book; you won't be disappointed. I loved it and look forward to more!

Keep your money
Seth Dunleavy has been slacking his way thru life. He did the rodeo thing and now he runs a struggling horse farm. He married Honey, whom he met because her father also worked in the rodeo.

Seth is contacted by his Grandmother to come to the family farm to collect his inheritance - he flat out refuses, but Honey agrees.

Honey falls in love with Dunleavy Farms. Dunleavy Farms is a wealthy place, filled with wonderful furnishings, loving people, and the best horses.

Seth feels that Honey is selling out to the money, but then comes to realize that maybe Honey deserves all that money can buy. So he plans to divorce her, but wants to make sure she gets his portion of Dunleavy Farms.

There were many reasons why I just didn't like this book. Money seems to be to motivating force. Money to pay for Seth's medical bills from a broken leg. Money for the best horses. Honey's father is looking for financial hand outs. Grandmother Dunleavy is intent on giving away the inheritance before she dies.

It just seemed, to me anyway, that the over riding theme of this book was that - money really can buy you happiness. In the end, Seth gets it all - the legacy Grandma wants to give, his wife, and this horse that will finish all their dreams "Never Done Dreamin'".

The characters didn't inspire any great warmth in me, either. Seth is a little too set in his own ways and is unwilling to even accpet being part of the Dunleavy family. Honey is an enabler - she enables Seth to coast thru his life, she allowes her father to coast thru on his life. She goes after the brass ring (Seth's part of Dunleavy Farms) and doesn't really look back.

I didn't really care for this book - not at all. I suggest you save your money and take a pass on this one.

a real page turner
I found this book realy interesting. I don`t read many book for the reason that if it don`t catch my attentien in the first chapter I won`t continue reading it. This story is a mix of a great love story and my all time love of horses. While reading this story you feel as though you know the characters persnaly. I`m looking foward to reading the two continues `Done dreaming` and `Done Crying`
