Rock Salt and Glissandos is a Must read !!!!!!!
This book is like William Burroughs meets Jim Morrison ! If you're into that genre , do yourself a favor and buy this book . You will not be dissapointed . It is chock full of Dark Poetry and short stories , Mostly covering the reality of prison life and drug dependency . This book is not "sugar coated" , It is the Real Deal written by a guy who's been through as much personal hell as one could take .

Steve Fisher gave himself A lethal injection of heroin and cocaine Febuary 7th 1993 at the age of 37 . It's a shame because this book left me wanting more .

Rock Salt Review
Steve Fisher's short stories are perhaps the most abrasive, meloncholy, and realistic portrayals of prison life I've ever read. He does not sugar-coat or romanticize the sadness of his own drug abuse or the realities of time spent behind bars. He conveys the lonliness of it all until you feel the sadness deep down. That's not a bad thing. And Fisher's poetry...the sweetness of his words for last love Cherry...show the reader Fisher's final years were not all filled with darkness. This is a brilliant little book.

do yourself a favor and buy this book
Rock Salt and Glissandos is one of those books you're not quite sure of when you first read the title. But, after thumbing through the pages and reading a couple of paragraphs one realizes that this writing stands along side William Burroughs, Charles Bukowski and Denis Johnson as some of the best writing of our time.
Steve Fisher took the advice of his mentors well. Fisher tells us his truth about the life he knew- prison life. Raw, gritty and beautifully powerful, these stories and poems will stay with you long after you set the book down. It's a shame Steve Fisher is gone, as we won't get another chance to see where this beautiful mind could have taken us.
This book brings us the body of Fishers work, collected together for the first time by publisher and editor Jim Camp of Synaethesia Press.
Like I said, Do yourself a favor- buy yourself this book.

Accurate, succinct, and useful
If you are looking for a book that covers the special forces of WWII and how to incorporate them into the GURPS game system, this is it.

Mr. Fisher has done an excellent job of maintaining both historical accuracy and game integrity. The writing style flows well and makes for an easy and informative book. For those of you who are not experts on WWII, this book may even prove educational :-)

Size doesn't matter...
GURPS has long been known for the attention to detail that it displays in its world books - thankfully GURPS WW2: Hand of Steel lives up to the pedigree.

Don't expect a wide range of detail in this book - it is one of SJ Game's new "mini-book" supplements. If you want the full low down on World War II and its participants, buy the core book and the other full size releases in the line.

What you do get though is a concise, intelligent, and historically accurate portrayal of the "special forces" in the conflict that spawned the modern understanding of that term. Everything from Wehrmacht combat engineers to US Marine Raider battalions - you are not limited by theatre or nationality, although the ommission of Italian special forces (extremely minor though they were in WW2) is a noticeable ommission.

Not that that effects the way the book works. If you want a Tech Level 6 military orientated campaign source, this book is essential. Games following the Real World WW2, Alternate Earths campaigns, even contemporary and near future special forces orientated games will benefit from the information in this book.

I am thoroughly satisified that I bought it - a great gaming aid and a good historical read. Nicely done.

Good stuff....
A nice collection of artists, with some great examples of what they can do. But....
Paper stock is poor and some prints are a bit blurry.

Look at it Regularly!
This is a great artbook, featuring many famous furry artists. I love the art, and look at it regularly. If you're a fan of Michele Light, I recommend it.

The best book in the world.
This book started my physical collection of furry publishings, and still remains the best singal pice I have. Not only is it perfectaly published, but contains excellent examples of anthropomorphic artwork. Its my personal bible.

There are two versions ...
Fischer wrote this first set in Hollywood and then re-wrote it (after it had been filmed) set in the 50s.

An engaging, quick read -- noir-lite.

A noir mystery in Hollywood
Steve Fisher's "I Wake Up Screaming" is a noir murder mystery set against the backdrop of Hollywood of the 1940s (though my copy of the book places the novel in the '50s). With Fisher's screenwriting experience, the verisimilitude of the Los Angeles and Hollywood setting is never in doubt. Peg (the male narrator) falls for Vicky Lynn, a bombshell secretary. Before long, he has enlisted the help of some friends to sponsor Vicky as they try to make her into a movie star. Soon after that, she is killed.

Police initially suspect Peg, but they soon clear him--except for one cop, a determined man named Ed Cornell, who assures Peg that he always gets his man and is never wrong. While Peg tries to get about the business of writing movies, Cornell is stalking him, trying to wear down the writer psychologically.

"I Wake Up Screaming" is a moderately gritty noir mystery written in a fast-paced, conversational style. The flavor is distinctly that of an era long past, and the novel should appeal to those who like that sort of atmosphere.

3 strikes
We used Lonely Planets for holiday travel in southern France for the first (and possible last) time. The recommended restaurant of Peter Mayle fame, Gu et Fils, on Frederick Mistral in Aix was either a typo or non-existent as we located the street but no restaurant to be found. Restaurant Le Merou Bleu of Marsailles was a mediocre tourist trap with despicable service. The impersonal nature of the LP recommendations for hotels merely define the facilities, but do not say enough about the character or level of cleanliness. We checked in (and out of) one of Lonely Planet's recommended two star hotels in Avignon and for about five euros more per night, found a potential three star hotel that was much better siutated, cleaner, bigger and quieter.

Try another guide, like Rick Steves'
Boy was this book a disappointment. Other LP guides weren't this bad. It seems this book only tries to get you to those places every other tourist is at, and only by public transportation. It skips out-of-the-way places that locals know and love, chooses hotels in noisy central sections of larger towns only. Worse, my 2002 edition still didn't give costs in Euro! Thanks to friends living in various areas of France, I was able to visit wonderful places that aren't even mentioned in the book. Restaurants were poorly chosen, and almost always tourist traps. If you rented a car (which is a really smart way as a group) you won't find any info in this book about getting around, or doing such duh! activities as wine-tasting routes, swimming holes, you-pick farms, sound-and-light shows. LP, if you're reading this: ever heard of the Puy-du-Fou? Everyone in Europe seems to have been there!

highly useful
I expect to use a book like this to help me plan a trip. It should be organized by region so I can decide among things that are close by. And I need the kind of information that goes beyond just listing the sites: is it crowded, charming, dangerous, special?

This book tries to answer these questions with a personal tone. As I read it I start to get a sense of the writers personalities and tastes, so that I can gauge my agreement with their opinions.

I wish the hotel and restaurant reviews shaded towards the high end a bit more. But I haven't found a series (I also have their guides to Europe and Mexico) that I can trust as well as this one.
