All in all - a great book
Each chapter is a Project. Project 1 took you through what you should already know about other Windows applications. I felt that I would not be trying to learn Access if I did not know how to use "Help" in other Windows applications.

Anyway, this was a great BASIC Access book. I did, however, have to send an email to Prentice Hall. After a week, I still have not heard from them. There are sections in the book called, "Discovery Zone Exercises". They let you figure out what to do by using "Help". Sometimes "Help" is no "Help". My advice to you is, if you can not figure out the "Zone" exercises just go on. I found one answer in the "Intermediate" book. Another at a book store.

With all that, the book is well written. They have you do the same thing more than once and sometimes in different ways. It earns 5 star's.

I am now starting on the "essentials Access 2000 intermediate" book. Look for that review.

Excellent resource for class
I bought all three book, beginning, intermediate & advanced to use in a course that I teach in Theories of Database. My students used these books to learn Access on their own. The book is very clear with practical examples. It includes many hints and tips that help avoid many of the pitfalls that beginners will typically encounter. Gives plenty of assignments and examples. My only complaint in that the binding on the spiral addition is pretty flimsy. I highly recommend this book for beginners or for teachers looking for a good access "workbook".

As good as the first book
As with the Basics book, interesting examples, lots of stuff to help you along, plus neat tips and pitfalls. Good CD for practice. Builds on what's covered in the first book. You get the feeling that you are really becoming good at a very difficult program! Can't wait to get the 3rd book, which wasn't out when I got the first two.

Great new Update
The authors have kept up-to-date with new editions. User-friendly charts and clear explanations make this one of the best psychopharmacology books on the market.

User friendly and comprehensive
This book provides many charts and quick references to a broad number of psychiatric medications, but also goes beyond just a discussion of medical treatment. It provides a clear understanding of the underlying neurobiology of various psychiatric medications, presumed mechanisms of action of drugs, and practical treatment guidelines. The book also offers a nice review of psychaitric diagnosis with an eye towards medication treatment. The book is written in an exceptionally clear style and is current in terms of theories and research. I recommend it to all of my graduate students.

Clear and Practical
Takes complex material and makes it easy to understand. Practical and applied.

An Absolute Necessity for All Taking Psychiatric Drugs
This is a book that you simply must read. And yes, I will tell you why. In some cases, psychiatric drugs are necessary. And they will be a part of your treatment. I lost it when I gave complete control to my psychiatrists. I'll give you a short example. I said to one psychiatrist, "Could the Valium AND the Prozac cause ill effects?" Answer, "I don't know why it should." Later, I would find out that this answer would not be good enough! If you buy this book while you are taking psychiatric drugs, you will be taking responsibility for your own health care! Should you be taking this medication before bedtime? During meals? Before meals? With aspirin? This book tells all so that you will not become addicted to Valium like I did. Please read it for your best care. Thank you.

Honest. Straightforward
Striaght talk about psychiatric drugs. Up to date and technical, but written in plain English. Treats psychiatric patients like knowledgable hunam beings who need to know the facts.

Very useful and practical, delightful reading
This is a superb book that will be of enormous use to those who must counsel families of troubled teens. These teens are a group of individuals who need acceptance, love, inspiration, and guidance. This book gives the counselor practical tools that are time tested to help families gently and wisely direct their teens onto a path of hope and success. The reading is fast and easy, filled with practical case studies that hold the reader's attention. It will also be useful for families of troubled youth to read, particularly if they are not already in counseling. I recommend this book without reservation.

Most pastors will be grateful for this book
"Weaver and his colleagues have produced another winner for clergy: a casebook which covers most of the difficult situations in which pastors are called upon to be a first, and sometimes primary, support and helper. Each case presentation is followed by critical issues to be aware of, relevant information, including community and national resources. Most pastors will be grateful for this book a number of times each year. Sections in the first chapter on the child's personality development and on effective parenting will be appreciated by most parents." --David K. Switzer, Emeritus Professor of Pastoral Care, Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University

I Once Had a Master: And Other Tales of Erotic Love

This is what D/s is about to me
It's so easy to wander out into pure fantasy when writing about D&s. While i'm sure he embelished a bit for effect (what author doesn't), Preston captures so wonderfully the ecstacy that comes from releasing control and been totally dominated (even when writing from a Top's perspective). Highly recommended to the novice; it's about as real a perspective on domination and submission as you can expect in erotica.

excellent book, giving a good feel of the 24/7 SM lifestyle
The John Preston books are all must-haves. With some embelishments on reality, which make nice reading - yet the foundation is sound. At very worst it is where the slaves heart is.

Integrative Brief Therapy: Cognitive, Psychodynamic, Humanistic & Neurobehavioral Approaches (Practical Therapist Series)
Published in Hardcover by Impact Publishers, Inc. (January, 1999)
Author: John Preston
Amazon base price: $27.95
Used price: $31.75

Exceptionally clear description of the process of psychother
Integrative Brief Therapy gives a lucid description of theory underlying several popular approaches to psychotherapy (focusing primarily on cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic models) and then guides the reader from diagnosis to specific treatments. This book takes complex concepts and discusses them in concrete and practical ways that help the reader conceptualize decision-making in psychotherapy. It also demnstrates how one's understanding of the diagnosis can guide the therapist to a specific set of strategies and techniques. This book recognizes the complexity of psychological functioning and is likely to be appreciated by therapists of various schools of thought. I think it is an especially good introductory text for graduate students. It also addresses growth and emotional healing; not just symptom reduction. Highly recommended.

Very practical, nuts and bolts
One of the few books on psychotherapy that gives clear guidelines regarding the particulars of conducting psychotherapy. Very clear and concise.

OPEN IT ANYWHERE, EVERY PAGE A MOTIVATOR
I'm a therapist and lend this book to clients who are feeling hopeless and after just a quick flip to any page they are often hooked. In brief focused chapters there is a lot of excellent information and practical suggestions on exactly what to do to help yourself to get well and feel better. It's a winner!

A Gold Mine of Great Tips
This is a great little guide for anyone suffering from depression, or their family members. It offers up many practical tips backed by the latest research on brain/biology links to depression. It also discusses how to overcome negative thinking, low self-esteem, and emotional traps that contribute to depression. I took a neuropsychology course from the author, a renowned depression expert from California. Dr.Preston really knows his stuff, but also knows how to write in an easily understandable fashion. This book is written in such a way that someone suffering from depression can actually read and enjoy it, and apply the advice right away. A terrific guide book worth its weight in gold. Highly recommended.
