Comprehensive, clear place to start
Excellent book to begin examining the financial elements of divorce. A good resource to start with before seeing a financial advisor or lawyer.

This book will at minimum prepare you for the difficulties ahead, at best, save you substantial financial expenditures.

IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO BUY THIS BOOK
Even though I have been separated a long while, I purchased my own copy of this book after browsing through a friends copy. It is truly a work of art. To me, it covers more than just money topics, but how to live through a very difficult time. It touches on so many areas, while always returning to the main topic of money. I really feel like the authors are talking to me, and not lecturing about facts and figures. A real user-friendly book! Forget emotions and get this book, even if you have to borrow the money!! You will get it back tenfold...

The best of them all
Divorce is about money, right? And this book will help you with all your financial questions regarding your budget, future planning, etc. And where has your spouse been hiding the money?? Find out! This book gives more tips on doing discovery than any other I've read. If you want a simpler book and want to let your attorney do everything (not recommended) try the Dollars and Sense of Divorce. But if you want the best reference there is, get Woodhouse's. I almost didn't get this one because of the price, but it's worth more than having 10 other books!

A REAL Guide for Retirement
I've been retired for nearly a year from a 34-year career -- and NO ONE prepared me for the depression that descended -- but if I'd read this book earlier, I'd have known how to ward it off --or at least know I wasn't losing my mind. It is NOT a "do this 1, 2, 3" book, nor is it a "let's all feel good" book -- it pulls no punches about a BIG transition in life. The clear text, pertinent real-life examples, and effective journal prompts give frameworks for me to look at lots of aspects of my life now -- including the changes retirement brings to marriage, to family relationships, to the way I view money -- to how I spend my time -- and to how I see myself. But it is not preachy or jargon-filled. The book always keeps the focus on the choices I have. It's realistic, accurate (the section on the stages is great--and comforting). The emphasis is on the person "doing" the book -- the retiree or soon-to-be retiree. For me, the only weak section was in the "feelings" chapter, especially the "mood analysis." The book is designed to be written in -- I don't think anything else will suffice. I wish I'd found it a year ago, but I think it's more powerful now. I might not have believed it then!

an eloquant account of Mother Jones
One of the more definitive books on Mother Jones,"Mother Jones, the Miners' Angel" provides readers with a discerning and penetrating look at one of America's more prominent labour agitators.

Joining the labour movement in Chicago after the death of her husband and daughters, Mother Jones became an prominent organizer due to her almost unparalleled oratory skills.

As one of the founders of the Social Democratic party (1898) and the Industrial Workers of the World (1905), Mother Jones was active in organizing miners, garment workers, and streetcar workers. Due to her effectiveness in organizing labour she was persistantly persecuted by authorities and in 1913 she was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder on trumped up charges. The sentence was commuted and in 1914 Mother Jones again played a prominent role in publicizing the massacre of 20 people by machine-gun fire during a Ludlow, Colorado miner's strike. Throughout her years of involvement in labour Mother Jones was continually a vocal advocate of laws to end child labour.

Author Dale Fetherling has written an eloquant account of one an union organizer and agitator that should inspire constructive social action in whoever reads it.
