A Light at the End of the Tunnel
Binge II: Recovery is clearly a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against alcoholism. I have researched this matter thoroughly and can confirm that AFA/Eight Steps is the first and only program of its type in the entire world. Spontaneous group therapy is quite common, but not "programmed" group therapy with specific steps to achieve specific goals. Substance-abuse treatment has become a multibillion-dollar industry in this country -- and is a colossal failure. Then along comes a simple, inexpensive program that points the way not only to recovery but to a better life, a program that offers hope -- and seriously threatens vested interests. Friends, Binge II: Recovery is a light at the end of the tunnel for America's alcoholic crisis. Let's help make AFA/Eight Steps household words, okay?

Should Be in Every School
This book is a two-for-one hit! My handicapped English students struggle with reading. They rarely, if ever, read a book cover-to-cover. But they ALL read the first Binge. They devoured it. They related to it. They analyzed it, discussed it, were sometimes shocked by it. And now comes what we all had been hoping for, both students and teachers -- Binge II with The Road to Recovery. The AFA/Eight Steps program is going to change lives, probably save lives. It belongs in every school in the country.

I Was Nearly Dead
If I could, I would give this book TEN stars! It has given me a wonderful new lease on life, and I'm sure it will do the same for countless others. was a notorious closet drunk. I would drink wine by the gallon, vodka by the fifth, beer by the case. I thought I had everyone fooled. Then one afternoon, while home alone, I collapsed in an alcoholic stupor. It was so bad, I couldn't tell up from down. Luckily, my son happened to stop by. He quickly dialed 9-1-1. At the hospital, my blood alcohol content was 0.54. I was nearly dead. Then I went into "treatment." First a counselor (expensive). Then as a patient in a treatment facility (more expensive), and finally a two-week stay in a substance-abuse ward of a hospital (the most expensive of all). Through all of this, I was bombarded daily with the horror stories of other patients, which was quite depressing. At the same time the counselors kept haranguing me that I am "powerless" over alcohol and must seek help in a "higher power," that there is no other way, which was even more depressing. And then after I was discharged, I discovered Binge II and the AFA/Eight Steps program. It was like opening a window and letting the fresh air in. The Fourth Step is about love; the Fifth Step is about all of the good that is within me; and the Sixth Step is an excellent rule of life for anyone, not just for alcoholics. "We resolved to be true to the best that is in us and to help other people, recognizing that in helping others, our own problems fall away." AFA/Eight Steps is a positive program, an upbeat program, a happy program, and I thank Mr, Ferry for writing it.

About two airmen of a TBF Avenger
This is a very good book about two airmen on a TBF Avenger, a torpedo bomber of WWII, and are sent away on the U.S.S Shiloh (fictional). They do return home but one loses his hand and the other serverly injures his leg. The book is good but the end is kind of iffy. I liked this because it shows the horrer of the war.

Binge By: Charles Ferry

Binge is the tragic tale of a young man and his problems. Young Weldon runs into some problems when he wakes up in a hospital bed with a police guard at his door. With Nurse Weatherbee by his side, he tries to remember what has happened this past week. Lt. Becker comes in for the questioning, meanwhile his son is playing football across from the hospital in the championship game. The problem becomes even more troubling to Weldon once the Lt. refreshes his memory. But the least of his problems is his memory; he's got to worry about what he did on his week long drinking binge. Charles Ferry made this a story of tragedy. He portrays the troubles of alcoholism in a outstanding and scary way. The audience might enjoy the tale of Weldon and his wonderful life turned awful, the star football player and honor roll student turned alcoholic. The only problem I encountered when reading this book was its sometimes drawn out content. You will only encounter this problem in a few pages in the middle. Other than that the book kept me wanting more and I was unable to put it down at times. This book is incomparable to any other book I've ever read because of its awesome and unusual content.

Exciting and Interesting
Binge is a story about a teenager named Weldon Yeagear and his experiences with alcoholism. This story involves many exciting events and every one of them gets Weldon deeper into his drinking pit. His problems start when he wakes up in a hospital and a police officer is standing at the door. Lieutenant Becker interrogates Weldon, bring him back to that scary and heart breaking night before when he was in that drunken craze and something terrible happened that changed his life. Charles Ferry writes this book in a special way; no other author can prevail in the way the Charles Ferry does. No matter what grade you are in or what reading level you are on, anyone can relate to this book. Because of all the exciting parts this book will grab you and you won't want to stop reading. This book is much like a clipping I read from the New York Times I read about a drinking "Binge" that a young boy was on After stealing a car he drove into an intersection killing four people along with himself. This book can really teach you something as well as save your life.

Once you've read it, you'll never forget it.
"Weldon, 18, wakes up in a hospital with his right foot gone. His front teeth are gone, too, and when he talks he spits blood on his hospital gown. He soon loses control of his bowels. He doesn't remember how he got this way. This is Binge, Charles Ferry's stunning book that begins with Welton Yeager waking up minus a foot. It takes Yeager, and the reader, the length of the book (only 94 pages) to patch together details of his drinking binge, during which he ran over four people with a stolen car before hitting a tree. Ferry shows his main character wheeling, dealing and stealing his way from drink to drink. The book captures the denial, self-deception and consequences of the young alcoholic's life. Binge may be the most powerful book ever written about teenage alcoholism and drunk driving. From the first sentence to the last, the reader is in the twisted mind of an alcoholic as he destroys his life. Binge. Once you've read it, you'll never forget it."
