outstanding
This is a compelling story, and very well written. It should be reprinted.

A Good Book
I like the book Across The Grain, I think it really puts you in the book. It is about a boy who moves to the desert from Cali. I think it shows what some people go through when they move to a new area. It is a emotional but funny book. I'd give it five stars anyday!

Across the Grain was fantastic!
Across the Grain was a wonderful book about friendship, care, and fun. Will, Mike and Sam, become close friends, and share their creativity, hearts, and their lives. Through hard times and good times, they comfort each other and it will create a smile on your face. This is much like life and you will be amazed how the author wrote it like it was about her and her friends. I recommend it to teens in 7th, 8th or 9th grade.

Sensitive handling of important issue
This book tells the story of Daphne, a young woman who leaves her abusive home when she discovers she is pregnant. Jean Ferris does not moralize: she does not skip over the obvious anguish every young woman must feel when she is such a situation, nor does she whitewash Daphne's difficulties in learning to trust and depend on the friends she gradually allows in her life. A very, very good book on a very important topic.

A Great Book!!
This book tells the risks of young age pregnancy

Excellent young adult fiction
This book, Jean Ferris's first, is a sensitively-handled, well-written story about a young girl's bout with depression. Farrell is a likeable, attractive young woman, and the way she struggles and works through her problems is realistic. My one quibble is that the young male lead is almost too good to be true. A very good book.

GREAT BOOK!
I first picked up this book and decided to read it by judging it's cover. I saw a picture of Paris, and since I liked European travel, I decided to check it out. It's a great story with believable characters, and you can actually feel what the main character is feeling. You get great descriptions, along with suprises along the way, and you actually feel like you are along on the trip with Berkely. It's filled with drama , action, and romance, and overall is an excellent book. (I've read it like, 18 times, and never get tired!)

A great book for all ages.
Sweet and naive Sandy tries to save his parents and pet chicken from being killed by his greedy and sinister uncles who are after the family money. When this means moving the comatose chicken and parents into the neighboring hospital for the mentally challenged, they will meet and befriend a cast of very endearing yet neglected people. A very warm-hearted story with humor, adventure, and suspense all in one cover. Great imagination!

Love Among the Walnuts
The book I read was "Love Among the Walnuts" written by Jean Ferris. The theme of

this book starts out in the city with a man named Horatio Alger Huntington-Ackerman. Then the

book ends up in the country where Horatio had married a women named Mousey Malone. The

lived in a huge house they built 40 miles away from Jupiter city. So you think this is a happy

story well your in for a treat this happy story turns into a suspense drama about twenty years

after Horatio and Mousey moved to their house. Yes the word Walnuts is for the mental hospital

called the Walnut Manor that is 1 mile away from the eclipse (that's what Horatio and Mousey

called it).

The first thing I would like to say that this was a enjoying book. My reason is that I liked

how the author gave each character such character. In the book she put so much description and

enthusiasm in her characters. I find that each character has a huge part in this book.

The genre of this adventure/ romance/ and Drama. What I liked about books writing style

is how the author kept you up and ready for the next part that's what I enjoyed mostly about the

book. Her writing also gives you clues and in the end gives the answers part by part. The

author's voice is calm and surprising and I mean that by how she writes this story. Some quotes I

would like to share with you are "It's rather toughing" and " Isn't that sweet". I chose these

quotes for the reason to show how the author portrays her characters and

shows the love between the characters them selves.

Well how I felt about this book is that it was a very calm, easy and soothing book with a

little excitement. I found wanting to read more and more of it when I began. I just wanted to

know happened to these characters and how they handled through any problems or hard ships.. I

would recommend this to anyone with the interest in drama stories.

What a ride!
Wow, Jean Ferris must have some imagination! They book flies with you and you just can't put it down! It definitley deserves more than 5 stars!

Horatio Alger Hungtington-Ackerman has a fortune. Because of his great amounts of money, his two brothers bond in mutual envy. They bring a poisonous cake to dinner one night, and Horatio and his wife Mousey fall into comas. (So does their pet chicken, the subject of many experiments.) Lucky for Mousey and Horatio, their son is there to save the day. If he only knew what to do next. Mousey and Horatio are forced to recieve medicial care, so they are transfered to Walnut Manor, the "loony bin" next door. With the help of his crazy butler, and the not-quite-right residents of Walnut Manor, Sandy eventually saves the day.

The book was hilarious and very compelling. I just couldn't wait to find out what was the next plan of revenge that Sandy's uncles would attempt. I could definitley picture this book as a great movie. I can't wait to read another book by this obviously fantastic author!

A wonderful conclusion to the trilogy
A very satasfying book. If you've followed the adventures of Rosie and the pirate captain know as Raider through "Into the Wind" and "Song of the Sea", this book is a trasure. A lot gets wrapped up, sometimes too easily and tidily, but this is a book that, when I finished, left me grinning like an idiot. It's really worth the effort to try and locate a copy of this book. Best of the American Dreams series!

THE LAST BOOK ABOUT ROSIE AND RAIDER, BEST I'VE READ.
IN THE LAST BOOK OF THE THREE, ROSIE AT FIRST IS CONVINCED THAT CAPTAIN RAIDER LYONS DOESN'T LOVE HER, BUT WHEN THE UNEXPECTED HAPPENS, SHE REALIZES THE TRUTH. THIS BOOK WAS THE PERFECT ENDING, AND THE EMOTIONS CAPTURED ON PAPER SEEM SO REAL. THE SORROW OF ROSIE IN FOWEY, THE NUMB DEVASTATION AT THE COVE WITH RAIDER, THE SURPRISE OF FINDING OUT ABOUT OCTAVIA AND BAPTISTE, THE HAPPINESS OF FINDING RAIDER'S TWIN, AND THE LOVE RADIATED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE STORY. AT THE END OF THIS MAGNIFICIENT BOOK, I HAD TEARS IN MY EYES. WHAT ALSO PUZZLES ME IS THE NAME OF THE FATHER, JOHN LYONS. IN THE 1990 BOOK THAT MS. FERRIS WROTE, ACROSS THE GRAIN, THE PHOTOGRAPH OF HER ON THE BACK FLAP OF THE DUST COVER WAS TAKEN BY A JON LYONS. IS THERE A CONNECTION? OR JUST COINCIDENCE? ALSO, I'VE BEEN WONDERING ABOUT THE DEDICATION PAGE. TO A.G.F. DOES THE 'F' STAND FOR FERRIS? THE WHOLE TRILOGY, OR WHAT YOU MAY CALL IT, WAS DEDICATED TO THIS MYSTERIOUS PERSON. THIS ONLY ADDS TO THE MYSTERY OF THIS EXTRODINARY BOOK. I HOPE THAT EVERYONE GETS TO READ ALL OF THEM, INTO THE WIND, SONG OF THE SEA, AND LAST BUTNOT LEAST, WEATHER THE STORM. THESE BOOKS, ESPECIALLY WEATHER THE STORM, TRULY TOUCHED MY HEART, AND EVEN THOUGH THIS MAY SOUND CORNY, ROSIE, RAIDER, AND EVERYONE IN THESE BOOKS WILL LIVE IN MY MEMORY AND HEART AS REAL PEOPLE FOREVER. MAY GOD BLESS THIS GREAT WRITER.

AGREE WITH THE REST-IT'S THE BEST(of the series, that is)
WOW-I haven't been so unable to put down a book, for a long time. This series is unbeleivable! I don't know how anyone can hate it as much as some reviews have stated-I loved it! I fell in love with Rosie and Raider, and ended up buying the series! HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED!

Worth the Read
Invincible Summer by Jean Ferris is a fabulous book for teenagers. The words are not too complex and it is a quick read, but the plot is uplifting and precious. While reading this book I felt emotionally charged, I cried, I laughed, I fell in love, and I suffered.

This novel tells the story of a 17 year old girl diagnosed with Leukemia. When diagnosed, she is confronted with fears she had never known before. But as she struggles through chemo-therapy and the effects, she meets a boy, also with leukemia, who shares her pain. These two teenagers experience true love. They feel together and love together. And although they do have sex (I see a parent disagrees in an earlier review) the author does not include any details unapropriate for the age group and adds it in addition to the love they feel, not as proof of the love they feel. Now, that I've argued my point. I will encourage every reader to get this novel (from a library or amazon.) It is an easy and quick read, but it will touch you and teach you. It's DEFINITELY worth the read!

Awesome Book!
This was definitely an awesome novel. It was one of the best books I have ever read. It was very powerful and very inspiring. I would definitely recomend it to anyone. I laughed, I cried, and I want to read it again! Wonderful, wonderful novel.

No subject
If anybody reads this, then they too know how I feel about this book.At first I didn't get it when Rick said,"That's the...quote of...the..."I thought he fell asleep or something.I had to read it like 3 or 5 times to get it.I also didn't get ,"The image of red taillights leaving her driveway that lost night in June came into her mind." [....]Well I think that I've said to much now I should go,but I leave you with one more thing. You most read this book if you have not done so already.Thats my quote of the week.

A REALLY GREAT BOOK
Whenever I read reviews, I always want them to tell me the ending. I hate not knowing how books end. I also sometimes read last pages first. In this book, Rosie goes to the place that Raider and Octavia own, called the cove, to help take care of Raider. She is all messed up with her emotions, and doesn't know what to do, because she loves Raider but won't admit it to herself. So you find out what happens. I only gave this book four stars because the other books in the trilogy are much more exciting with more adventure. But other than that it is a great book. For more young adult historical romances check out all Ann Rinaldi's books, Elizabeth Massie's books and Cameron Dokeys' books.

THIS WAS THE BEST BOOK EVER!
I WAS TOTALLY SWEPT AWAY BY THIS BOOK! IT WAS A FABULOUS SEQUAL TO THE FIRST ROSIE AND RAIDER STORY In To The Wind. IT SEEMED SO REALISTIC AND WELL RESEARCHED IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT DOWN! IT WAS JUST ONE OF THOSE BOOKS YOU READ ALL IN ONE SITTING.

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS EVER!!!
tHIS BOOK WAS SO EXCUISITLY WRITTEN AND THE BOOK SO RESEARCHED AND REALISTIC IT TOOK MY BREATH AWAY. tHE PLOT WAS GOOD THE FEELINGS OF ANGER, LOVE, AND WORRY WERE SO REALISTICLY EXPRESSED IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I'VE EVER READ AND JEAN FERRIS IS THE BEST AUTHOR FOR HER TRIUMPH WITH THIS TRILOGY. THESE CHARACTERS AND THEIR FEELINGS, CONFUSION, AND ACTIONS WILL STAY WITH ME FOREVER.
