Dogs Deserve Dialogue...by Judy Moore
This is an exceptional book.
DOGS DESERVE DIALOGUE & Judy Moore's Video are exceptional and truly in the dog's language. Our German shepherd had been kept in a little kennel for breeding. They had two other dogs that were allowed in the house and car. We were given Jazmine at 3 1/2 years old. She hated dogs and people and was unmanagable. She was excellent in every other way. We have 11 dog books and none of that training helped us. We got Judy's book and tape and started working with her. Jazmine had to have a serious surgery and was quite ill for a month. Judy wrote us an email and asked how we were doing. We were very discouraged. With Judy's encouragement we started training again. Immediately, Jazmine picked up where we left off. She would behave responsibility with constant praise. This would have been impossible without Judy's book and tape. Judy Moore is an exceptional person, gives generous help and support, and is constantly wanting to help all animals. This is the only dog book you need for training. We suggest you get the tape as it is quite helpful. The dogs learn very quickly and without being stressed.
Dogs Deserve Dialogue
I own a very high spirited dog. When I first started walking him as a young puppy, we were both attacked several times by dogs that were not on leashes. Because of this, my dog has what I can only call Social anxiety. He is frightened of any new experience. Instead of cowering, he became aggressive. I have trained dogs using a variety of methods over the years, but only this book was able to help me help my dog. It inspired me to also join Judy in a weekend training session. Between the book, the video and Judy's help, my dog is able to handle his fears and even overcome some of them. It is not a quick fix, it requires a relationship with your dog. The work is gratifying and you will not believe what a wonderful dog you own!

A must have for parents
As a L&L instructor for my school district, I have a distict affinity for the L&L philosophy. However, that does not mean I heartily recommend every tape. Four Steps to Responsibility, however, is a must have for parents who wish to prepare their kids for the real world. As a parent, it is instinctual to some degree to want to save our children from the pain and anguish that can occur during childhood: by either keeping our children from making (safe) mistakes, to rescuing them in order to make their life easier and to spare them pain. The authors do an excellent job of showing how we are stealing from our kids when we do this... The authors point out that the road to wisdom is paved with mistakes, as is the road to positive self-concept and self-esteem. Only by overcoming obstacles can the children feel confident enough to handle any challenge that comes his/her way. Only by owning the problem can the child build the decision making skills that may one day keep him/her from getting in a car driven by a drunk friend-not because he/she knows that mom and dad don't know and can't get mad, but because he/she has a clear understanding about the connection between choice and consequence. Get this tape...it is great.
Loved It!
The tape is very insightful as well as extremely entertaining. I couldn't wait to get back in my car to hear more. Although the concepts are quite tough (most parents want to rescue their children) it is extremely helpful and most of all - FUN. I so enjoy watching my children problem solve and make decisions - coming up with solutions I had not thought about. Most of the time, they don't make the same mistake twice when they keep the problem on their backs. I have ordered more audiobooks in the Love and Logic series and even one I am donating to my kids school.
A "MUST HAVE" FOR ALL PARENTS AND TEACHERS.
THIS CLEARLY DEMONSRATES THE "OBLIGATION" OF PARENTS AND TEACHERS TO PREPARE KIDS FOR THE REAL WORLD BY EXPERIENCING THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIONS INSTEAD OF ALWAYS RUNNING INTERFERENCE AND SENDING MESSAGES THAT STUNT GROWTH AND DEVELOP THE COMMON "IT'S NOT MY FAULT" ATTITUDE THAT IS SO PREVASIVE AND DESTRUCTIVE TODAY. I BELIEVE EVERY PRINCIPAL IN THE COUNTRY SHOULD HAVE THIS TAPE AND INCORPORATE ITS IDEAS AND PHILOSPHIES INTO THEIR SCHOOLS.

Great Ideas
This is a wonderful, and short version of the Love and Logic approach. This little book is great to reread when you need to refocus on things. I would highly recommend that anyone that is around children read this.
Easy to relate to.
I was able to read this short book in one sitting. It kept my attention and used examples that were straight from my life. It gave me suggestions that I will be able to apply to my situation. Some of the scenarios were comical, but isn't life? I would highly recommend this book to anyone with children of all ages.

If you have kids, you need this tape!
As a Love and Logic instructor, a parent and school counselor, I am familiar with many of the L&L tapes and concepts. Because of this, it is unusual to have an "ah-hah" moment such as the one I had listening to "Homework Battles." As parents and educators, our dream is to find a way for our kids to do homework for their own benefit, and hopefully take ownership for grades, missing or late assignments, and to enjoy the benefits and fun of school. In an enjoyable and nonjudgemental format, the authors point out how parents can do the exact wrong things for the right reasons, making homework and grades into an adolescent power struggle or a drudgery by forcing our value systems and expectations down our child's throat at the exact time they are rejecting our values out of hand. The authors also point out how we, as parents, do not receive report cards in regards to our parenting skills, so we take ownership of our child's performance at school as a close surrogate. Bad idea, and fundementally counter-productive.
This tape helps parents focus on a child's strengths, thereby building self-esteem and a good self-concept, through placing ownership of the grades squarely on their shoulders. All the pizzaz is placed on the positives while only gently touching upon the student's weaknesses. The authors compare this with having your spouse review your output during your day when all you want is to come home to a safe, supportive house. Even with the spouses best intentions, how long would you stay married to someone who only concentrated upon your weaknesses?
Get the tape...it has changed how I work with parents, students, and my own children! It works, and it makes the whole process much more fun for the parent.
Winning the Homework Battle
This tape was my first introduction to the Love & Logic program and now I'm hooked on the idea! The ideas presented in the tape are just what I needed to give me the freedom from my teenager's homework and turning the responsibility back to him! It all makes so much sense! Most parent's probably need to learn from these tapes that our responsibility to our children is to let them learn to take responsibility for their actions!! Excellent tape and they're fun to listen to!

Inspiring
I found this short book to be quite inspiring, right from the powerful introduction. Although it tries to simplify parenting down to a few ideas, it has made me want to give my children more "I'm Capable" messages, and has given me a few tools with which to do this. I would recommend this quick read to anyone who deals with children.

It Actually Got My Husbands Attention
My husband was catching a plane and I stuck it in his brief case. I had been desperate to just address some parenting issues in our family. I wanted him to be empowered to make some changes!!! The book has broken down the main parenting concepts from Love & Logic into short 2-3 page chapters. After his trip my husband came home to correct certain things I was doing. He changed his approach with our son to focus on his strengths rather than his weakness. It is a very insightful book helping you understand how to raise children.

You can use these ideas right away.
As a teacher I found this tape full of pratical advice and techniques that can be used in the classroom. Rather than being full of abstract theories as so many education books tend to be, Mr. Fay is very down-to-earth and draws upon his extensive experience in schools with amusing stories and advice. His ideas put the teacher in the driver's seat and show the educator how to beat the student at their own mind games. I listen to this tape in the car on my way to and from school.

The best book for parents raising teens
Whether you have troubled teens, average teens, or great teens, this book provides a plethora of answers for parents with questions about being the best parent they can be. The love and logic program teaches parents how to love their child by taking care of themselves and by allowing their teen to suffer real world consequences. The book is half instruction and half ideas and suggestions for resolving common teen problems such as parties, friends, drugs, sex, backtalking, etc. I'm going to make it part of my permanent library.
This book has changed my thinking and my life...
I couldn't put this book down for days, it had so much information that I needed to help change my thinking. Right away I used the ideas and boy did things change around the house. I am a single parent and just didn't know how to get around the constant problems of reasoning with a strong willed child. I recommend this book to all parents even if you think you are doing all the right things. You will find great help and your life will be easier.

Humane and realistic parenting with lots of love!
I have been reading parenting books for years. I read this book completely. As the adult child of an alcohol and drug councilor with 3 young children, I have taken great interest in therapy and communication techniques. I don't generally offer my opinion in reviews but I felt that this book should receive the credit that it is due. The focus of this book is to help your child to eventually become an unusually functional and mentally healthy adult. It makes a humorous, but truthful analogy of the learning patterns of very young (2 and under) children to that of dogs. It explains why, unlike a dog, children must begin to think for themselves and how to help them do that. It recognizes that some parents use corporal punishment, explains why this is sometimes effective and how to use it to the least detriment of the child, but over all discourages it and offers alternative methods of discipline. The book teaches how parents can assist instead of disrupting the child's natural process of learning. Permit a child the consequences of their own mistakes when they are young and they will learn not to make big, life changing mistakes when they are adults. Become a friend and respected confidant to your child whose opinion he respects. There are excellent, real life accounts of how to apply the techniques. Most teachers will recognize the authors names. The authors are well known and highly acclaimed in the educational field and have raised responsible, successful children themselves.
Stop enabling: Teach responsibility with love and logic
This book provides sound parenting philosophy and easy to use guidelines to apply it. As a teacher, it is clear to me which students have been raised with loving and logical parents. So many parents confuse love with protection. Parenting with love and logic means allowing your kids to make choices ... and sometimes mistakes. Some may object to the "Basic German Shepard" tactics or the idea that claims that spanking is sometimes alright. Use what you wish from the book. I have never spanked my child, nor do I order him around like a dog. To avoid a power struggle with my son who didn't want to put on his clothes or coat for a 5 minute ride home from my sister's house, I used Love and Logic principles. On a cold January evening in Michigan I carried him to the car in his underwear. Moments later, he said, "I'm cold." I simply kept driving and said, ... Perhaps next time you will make a different choice?" A natural instinct would be to cover him up and protect him from the cold. He was not injured in any way. By sticking to the principle, however, he learned two very important lessons: 1) mom is not kidding around, and 2) it's smart to wear your clothes and a coat. Since that evening, we have not struggled to get dressed. Try it!
Love and Logic approach works for discerning parents
This approach to parenting children is very effective for the parent who has the experiences and/or intelligence to gain control over their own emotions. The principles found in the Love and Logic series are excellent for raising responsible children in an irresponsible society. The promotion of spanking as a technique has been reversed by the Love and Logic Institute since this book was written - and that is good. The pearls offer practical interventions to common parenting challenges. However, if you are a parent who does not have the time or ability to think and fit the discipline to the personality of your child - this book could frustrate you. Many parents are looking for a script to follow throughout the life of their child. This text gives examples of principles to use. I am a marriage and family psychologist and recommend this book often. It is a great resource for most parents.
