Run Softly Go Fast
I read this book in High School and found it to be absolutely inspiring. While it is beautifully written, it also offers the reader an underlaying message about individuality and overcoming obstacles that makes the story very hopeful. I will never forget the opening paragraph, which I think speaks for itself when the protagonist says: "...I still became myself. Against impossible odds, became myself."

Extremely moving tale
"Run Softly, Go Fast" is a great book about a boy growing up during the Vietnam era, and his stormy relationship with his father. The book is so beautifully written that it will bring you to tears. Its a story of love, loss, and miscommunication. Don't miss it.

An appealing story for young Jewish readers.
Here Come the Purim Players! deserves ongoing mention as a fine Purim tale. Shoshana Mekibel illustrates this tale of two men and their fellow Jews in Prague who escaped description. An appealing story for young Jewish readers.

A Surprising Treat
This book is a great find. It's quick reading and you can skip around because the topic of each chapter stands on it's own.

It's a compilation of quotes from women the author met traveling throughout the U.S. At first, I thought the prespective might be outdated since her journey took place many years ago. However, she has more recenlty updated the book.

The author covers a good range of topics and resources that I believe will touch on the priorities of most women today. Women from every walk of life and age are quoted and they have alot to share.

A close friend shared this book with me; now I want my own copy to keep on hand for daily reference. I've found the wisdom offered in this book has been soothing during tough times and inspiring during the better times. It's become a treasured guide for me. Don't miss it!

Fast Courting

Evocative, sensually charged fiction
Professional ethics are what keep a good writer honest. Nia Phillips is feeling the pinch of her personal life intruding upon her professional life, however, with the magazine article her editor at the Eastern Edge wants her to write. Nia is to interview the five most eligible bachelors of the East Coast, as selected by the top echelon of said magazine. Amongst them is basketball coach, Daniel Strahan, the sports celebrity all of Boston seems to adore (especially with the winning streak his team is currently on). Once upon a time, Nia was married to sports journalist, David Phillips. His obsession with basketball -- and his philandering ways -- killed their marriage with a bloodless efficiency. Her dislike of the sport and athletes in general is therefore understandable.

Rather than embracing the limelight as Nia expects, Daniel refuses to grant her an interview. His refusal is coldly stated, but the frost in his eyes is warmed by Nia's effortless allure and her frank honesty. Her violet eyes flash with indignation when he accuses her of trying to write a flashy expose, of trying to dig up dirt on his personal life. Their first meeting is anything but cordial, and yet Daniel and Nia fell the pulling of an inexplicable attraction. When their tempers cool, they realize they have a great deal in common; but will those commonalities smooth the way for a relationship or the inevitability of heartache? Love is a game you play for keeps, after all. Daniel is on the road, traveling from state to state, with troubling regularity. How can a relationship survive the stress of such conflicting schedules?

When love goes into overtime, the outcome is anyone's guess.

Is it any wonder Ms. Delinsky's backlist has been reissued? FAST COURTING is a sweetly simplistic and nostalgic read fans of the genre will eagerly embrace. Everything old is new again: the heady rush of true love, the terrifying indecisiveness and the potent appeal of an old-fashioned courtship. (Videocassette recorders were still a novelty in the early eighties. That's the only anachronism I noticed, however. Otherwise, this novel has surprisingly modern sensibilities, considering it was first published in 1983). Dan and Nia's dance of courtship is marred only by a persistent belief that any relationship they pursue is purely transitory. Their divergent professions are difficult to mesh with a stable home life, or so they believe.

Dan's rather extreme aversion to the press and members of the media is never explained. His personal life is apparently spartan and scandal-free, so why all the fuss? A reader is urged to look beyond that mystery to the character himself. Dan is far from the average jock and spoiled celebrity Nia is confident she will encounter. An air of mystery surrounds Dan, however; a reader is seldom invited inside of his head, so to speak. As a result, a reader is left in the dark about Dan's motivations and his feelings. Of course, actions speak louder than words. Authenticity is created by the author's judicious use of basketball jargon. Misunderstandings are also dealt with speedily before they mushroom into something bigger than they truly are. Ms. Delinsky is an able hand at averting disaster while fanning the flames between her two main characters.

All in all, FAST COURTING is a pleasant reading diversion. It just goes to show that dribbling the ball down center court is only possible when you run good interference. Dan and Nia have a wonderful chemistry, and Ms. Delinsky has a timeless talent for creating evocative, sensually charged fiction.

Barbara Delinsky has done it again!
This was a wonderful book. I could not put it down. I was sad when the book was over, because I wanted to read more about Nia and Daniel. I highly reccomend this book, as I do with any of Barbara Delinsky's books. She is by far my favorite author.

Gripping tale - God forbid that it happen to anyone else
Hidden within the pages of this intense and absorbing first person account, are sincere and serious warnings for everyone living in our therapeutic culture. It warns of the false solutions offered by therapists who rely too heavily on medication. It warns of the dangers of relying on experts to provide healing rather than on self-responsibility. It warns of the dangers of emotional repression instead of expression. But the greatest warning may be that we all need to build and maintain networks of supportive and sensitive family and friends. In the end Gordon credits this resource as contributing the most to her healing.

Honored for 15 weeks on the New York Times bestseller's list, this book is the story of Barbara Gordon's anxiety-induced slide into Valium addiction, her ill-advised and dangerous "cold-turkey" withdrawal, the psychosis and hospitalizations that followed the withdrawal, and her slow, painful, and persistent pathway back to functioning. Readers may find the first half of the book to be a bit repetitive as Gordon chronicles her destructive relationship with Eric, but the pathos and honesty expressed in her fight back to sanity while at Greenwood Hospital is gripping and compelling.

I am aware that there have been changes in state licensing standards for therapists since this book was written. I am aware that there have been many significant advances in the study of brain biology since this book was written. I hope that the therapeutic "industry" may be credited with significant advance since Gordon endured this mistreatment. Nonetheless, I recommend this book. It speaks with a distinctive voice warning that we all - treated and untreated, patient and therapist - must take personal responsibility for our mental health within a supportive social context of family and friends.

No one should ever have to repeat the experience Barbara Gordon had.

Be prepared!!
If you're like me, and really *get into* what you're reading, this book will have you questioning your own sanity!

You will fall into the deep blackness with Ms. Gordon, as well celebrate her successes as she begins to see the light!

This book is timeless, powerful, and AWESOME. Not a "feel good" story -- but a tormented journey -- one which will give you hope.

A must-read for women in search of inner-strength!

A Harrowing Vision Of Valium Addiction
This is the Age of the Quick Fix, the Age of Prozac and other mind potions. Barbara Gordon's story of her addiction to Valium and striving towards recovery is a classic in the literature of addiction. From a successful career as an award-winning documentary film maker, becoming famous and rich, to having a personal relationship with "Eric," who supposably was trying to take her off Valium cold turkey with disastrous results, Barbara Gordon paints an honest and painful a portrait of addiction as you will ever read. Once the most prescribed drugs for anxiety and "Nerves" in the world, it is now potentially one of the most addictive and dangerous to get off of after taking it for a long time. This book changed my life, for I was addicted to Valium, not ever imagining how it would change my life, mostly for the worse. Barbara Gordon's struggle was heroic and her getting off the drug, finding her bearings, and heading on the road to recovery make inspiring reading and a cautionary tale, that pills do not cure everything, that the human spirit can survive deep terrors. Many books on drug addiction have come and gone, written by professionals as well as laymen, but I know of none more powerful, none that face the fear with such total honesty as Barbara Gordon's book. It should never be out of print and anyone contemplating taking the drug path to lower anxiety should read this book and have second thoughts. Barbara Gordon, like many true survivors, takes her readers to hell and back, and show us that there is hope, even after a journey into into the deepest darkness of the psyche. Highly recommended. One of the best books ever written about drug addiction of any kind.

The info in this book is priceless!
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in early May 1998, due to radioactive treatment for hyperthyroidism. Since then I have steadily gained weight, had no energy at all, have battled depression, among other physical problems related to the disease. (Plus I don't like exercising). But, I read this book and began the exercises immediately, and have done them religiously for 7 days now. I'VE LOST 7 1/2 INCHES AND 4 POUNDS! I just can't believe it. (It is easier if you buy Greer's video to work out with). Though I haven't seen too much of a difference in the way my clothes fit just yet, I have definately noticed a difference in the way my double chin has melted away! I actually have energy now too! It certainly doesn't take long for BREATHING to work it's magic. I'm sticking with it!!! I'd love to hear from others who have had thyroid problems & how this program has helped. BREATHE! :)

From Size 16 to 10 and still losing!!!!
I was cklowery about 22 weeks ago, and at the time I reviewed the book I was only on the program for a week. Well, as I said, it's been 22 weeks and as you can see from my top line, I've gone from a 16 to a 10 and I'm on my way to an 8 right now!

I've tried everything, and I was at the end of my rope until I came across this book. I was skeptical too, but that first week was what got me hooked and kept me there. I know that there are skeptics out there, and some who will tell you guys that it doesn't work. I don't know their story and why it didn't work for them, but look at all the praises Ms. Childers has gotten just from the people here! The odds are in your favor that THIS BOOK CAN AND WILL WORK FOR YOU! I've recommended it to everyone, and for those who stuck to it, they've lost inches too! My workout buddy lost a dress size in 4 weeks, and my aunt in the first week lost 4 1/2 inches and get this: like me, they didn't have to change the way they ate! I will close by saying this: IT WORKS, IT WORKS, IT WORKS!!! Thank you Greer Childers for passing this program on!

You Won't Believe It!
I just started the Bodyflex exercise program...I told myself that I was really going to commit and do it everyday, and the results so far have been unbelievable! I knew I had more energy and was feeling better, so I didn't wait the full week to measure my body again...I couldn't beleive what I saw. In just four small days I had lost 3 inches in my upper abs, half an inch on my stomach, and one full inch on my lower abs. In four days! I can't wait until next week when I begin to do the program twice a day. I'm so excited! I am currently a size 20 and I hope to get down to at least a 10 by summer, and with Bodyflex, I know I can do it! I am so excited about this product I would recommend it to anybody. I haven't dieted at all. In fact, yesterday I ate pancakes for breakfast, a supersize meal at McDonald's for lunch, and a big bag of powdered sugar donuts, and I don't feel lousy! Thank you so much Greer!

Not worth the money
I was excited to order this book. I had heard good things about it. However, I was dissapointed when I received it. It has very few and very basic patterns. And, the photographs are hard to see because they are either cut off or do not show the item well enough for one to appreciate the item. Out of the whole book, only one item interested me and it was a shawl. I would not reccomend you buy this book. THere are lots better out there.

Simple and Beautiful!
This book is filled with simple projects for the whole house that are very pretty with up-to-date style. These are projects that one can finish quickly. There are pillows, bags, table runner and placemats, and many more nice, simple projects.
