Excellent, real-world advice. Must read for grad job hunts
Jack Falvey isn't an academic -- he learned thru years of real,work-world experience (and it shows!) This excellent book is a must-read for anyone entering the job market for the first time, and much of its advice will stand the test of time throughout a lifelong career. I've been recommending it for years to all of my graduating students. Ed Wohlmuth, business faculty, The Art Institute of Philadelphia

Extremely useful for those looking for a carrer change.
Last year I embarked on a search for "what I wanted to do when I grew up". I found this book by luck in a local mega-book/music store. I've highlighted many sections and used what I learned to give me the confidence I needed to market myself.
The book is well written, easy to read, often punctuated by humor and sarchasm. It challenges some of the well worn "rules" of job hunting. Don't lead with your resume is such an example. I always thought the resume was the center of all hiring process.
I've recommended this book to several of my friends, and even once to a guy I sat next to on a flight!
Well worth the <$10 price tag! Check it out!
This is a 10. Read this book.
I stumbled across this book shortly after it was published in 1987. Over the next 10 years I watched as the details of the places I worked at (AT&T; MCI; a small government agency; as an independent contractor) matched the book. This is an excellent book. I have made it mandatory reading for my children. I have loaned it repeatedly to my friends, as one by one, they experienced business as Falvey describes it. It is not so much that Falvey has profound insight. It's that he articulates the insight so well. Example: "It is better to be from a large company than to be with one". Some of his stuff is quite bleak, and unfortunately accurate. But there is optimism in his view, that is sometimes hard to share, but has proven itself true as well. I wish he would write more. Perhaps a case method book for business self education...
Save yourself from your next five bad career moves - read it
I just went through a downsizing, career-advising, resume-updating change of life, and I could have done it in a tenth of the time if someone had only handed me this book. It speaks to you as a trusted adviser, interested only in your future. It teaches you the value and habit of networking, the deadly aspects of resumes, the importance of face-to-face contacts over mass mailings, and so much more that I plan to re-read it, when my (great) new job gives me a chance.
The only reason it's a 9?
