Kathryn's Advice Worked for Me
I picked up the book at the mall and skimmed through it. Although there was a lot in there that didn't interest me there was a lot that did. It gave a lot of helpful information on how to develop your book for the new markets. Her advice worked. I sold my first book in 2001, my second in 2002 and I sold a third book this January. Her formulas and methods worked for me. While they may not be helpful to everyone she has my sincerest thanks for guiding me into being a published author.

The Next Best Thing To Attending A Writers Conference!
This book was great with plenty of helpful information by some of my favorite authors such as Virgina Henley, Victoria Alexander, Julie Garwood and Lori Foster. If you are unable to attend a wrtiers conference (and I have never been able to make it to one yet fingers are crossed though) this is just how I would imagine one would be like.

Great ideas about any type of romcance story in the very vast genre. This is a great tool for the aspiring author. Of course not all of the information applies or is helpful to everyone but is still worth purchasing if you are serious about the romance industry.

With information, advice, and examples
In How To Write A Romance For The New Markets...And Get Published!, Kathryn Falk draws upon her many years of experience and the expertise of hundreds of romance authors to provide aspiring writers with information, advice, and examples of how to get their romance writings polished and published. All the elements of writing romances are covered, along with a survey of the new markets in the romance genre including: African American; Time Travel; Christian; Multi-Cultural; Asian; Unusual heroines; humor; Hispanic/Latino; romantic suspense; magic; science fiction; fantasy; and erotic. The informative and comprehensive text is enhanced with a number of invaluable appendices including the Etiquette for Manuscript Submission; Romance Publishing Houses; Agents and Agencies; Romantic Times Magazine; Romantic Times Conventions and Lady Barrow Tours; and "Recommended Books". If you are an author seeking to succeed in the field of romance stories and novels, then begin with a thorough reading of Kathryn Falk's How To Write A Romance For The New Markets...And Get Published!

So-so...
This book could do with a thorough revision. Much of it is heavily dated.

There are a few really good essays, especially the ones on how to research and organize your research. Those essays are invaluable. I also appreciate the suggestions on whose romances to read to see the craft of writing in action. These lists too need updating so we can look for books that reflect today's market.

But most of the essays on writing frustrated me. The authors only state what to do and rarely give much explanation on HOW to do it. The essays are much too short and not at all comprehensive. They're certainly interesting as a look at what authors say they do in writing romances, but not very instructive in teaching others how to do it.

If Ms. Falk revises this book, I would strongly suggest asking the authors to revise their essays to include more description of how-to mechanics.

Thank you Kathryn...
I first read Kathryn Falks book 15 years ago when I was only 18. It inspired me so much that I decided to write to Kathryn and ask for some personal advice. To my surprize she answered my letter. Her suggestion was for me to wait and experience life and romance of my own before I began to write. She was even kind enough to invite me to a writers convention in New York to listen in and meet other writers. Although I was unable to go, her words of encouragement inspired me. I am now 33 and a mother of four and have started writing a novel. I am glad I waited because life has taught me so much over the past 15 years. Thank you Kathryn for listening and taking the time to write to a young girl who needed those words of encouragement. I think your book is great. I have read it many times and I always refer back to it when I have a problem with my writing.

The Best Romance Reference Book Available!
I've spend hundreds of dollars on various romance novel writing guides and books...But yet I still come back to this one. This is, by far, the best romance novel writing guide available. If you are serious about romance writing, you must read this book. My copy is so worn from use that I had to buy another.
