Burkett brings to light the full repertoire of the liberal spin doctors in one concise volume. The terrifying thing in this country is the way most people believe what they are told by the government and what they hear on the news without ever stopping to ask themselves, does this really make sense? After you read this book, you'll never take anything for granted without considering what someone has to gain by convincing you. A must read for any modern day patriot.

I was both pleased and angered by this book. Larry presented his facts in a well written, no nonsense fashion. He provided all sources for the information he used. It gave me an entirely new outlook on how government intervention in every aspect of our lives has hastened the erosion of our basic "rights" as free Americans. I have read it three times and it continues to infuriate me.

This book opened my eyes to the deceptions that are being feed to each of us today. Larry Burkett exposes the EPA for who they are and gives evidence that proves the hole in the ozone layer scare is not to be believed. You will be outraged at the injustices people are sujected to by a government that is much too big and too busy tending to matters that were never meant to be handled by our law makers. Every Christian and/or person who wishes to be exposed to another version of the stories we here every day should read this book because it will reveal how important it is that we not believe something to be true because the media says it is or some government agency says it is. My way of thinking has been forever changed by reading this book.

I bought this book back in 1993 after listening to Larry North's Saturday afternoon radio show while living in Dallas, Texas. It was an "easy" read and made such perfect sense. Larry North is just simply inspiring.I have referred to this book on and off, rereading parts of it again for almost 10 years now. Each time I am reinspired and more motivated. This is not a fad diet or exercise program, it's a way of life.

I read several newsletters and magazines on health, nutrition, fitness, and longevity every month, and have read dozens of books on health and fitness. GET FIT is the ONLY book I've ever read where I could find NO misinformation. (Believe me, I looked hard!) And this book covers a lot of ground. Granted, GET FIT is no literary masterpiece, but it's easy to understand and enjoyable to read. If you're tired of fads and quackery, Larry North is the real deal.

Native American Oral Traditions: Collaboration And Interpretation is an impressive collection of seven sets of intercultural authors, who present oral Native American stores with insightful commentary that adds perspective and discovery to these already fascinating stories. This body of oral literature, all of which comes from the American West, has been passed down through centuries and includes material from tribal sources ranging from the Yupik in the Arctic to the Yaqui in the Sonora Desert. Highly recommended for Native American Studies reading lists and reference collections.

The lyrics of the Yaqui Deer Songs are magical, moving poetry both in English translations and in the liquid sounds of the Yaqui originals. This book gives a sense of the true flavor of Yaqui culture and spirituality.

After reading Larry Swedroe's excellent second and third books I felt compelled to return and read this, his first book. My urge to do so has been more than adequately rewarded by this excellent text.

Larry Swedroe lays strong foundations by focusing on three major areas. First, he summarizes the results of several studies indicating that passive investment strategies outperform, over time and by a wide margin, active investment management. Second, Mr. Swedroe offers the individual investor a through overview of Modern Portfolio Theory and its subset, Efficient Markets Theory. Third, Larry provides a guide to the construction of a portfolio and discusses the roles investment advisors may undertake for the individual investor.

While some of the material in this first book is duplicated and updated in the second and third books, I recommend all three of these texts to individual investors. Larry Swedroe possesses the knack to take recent academic research and pass it on in an understandable, common sense manner to the many individual investors who do not possess advanced degrees in statistics.

My own library of "good books" on investing has grown to nearly 20 different texts. All three of Larry Swedroe's texts make my "good book" list. (I have rejected over 100 other texts and not included them on my "good book" list.) I highly recommend all of Larry's books, together with additional texts by Burton Malkeil, Peter Bernstein, John Bogle, Bruce Temkin, Roger Gibson and others. Larry's three books greatly assist the individual investor to build a solid base of knowledge to understand what works (and the many things that don't work) in investing. I highly recommend this book, and all three of his books, as key additions to every serious investor's library.

If you are an investment neophyte or an index fund guru, this book will expand your knowledge. The research is in and the results are unequivocal, indexing beats active management over time and by a significant amount. The only people who contest the evidence are active fund managers who don't want to lose their paying customers. Larry Swedroe provides the evidence in a fully documented book that explains not only why index investing outperforms active fund management, but also how you can put the information to work for you. In eleven easy to read chapters, Mr. Swedroe explains Modern Portfolio Theory, research that won the Nobel Prize for economics in 1990. But this isn't an economics book. With complete explanations and interesting examples the reader is taught the basics of the efficient market and modern portfolio theory. Using the principles described in this book, an individual investor can both "eat well and sleep well", that is, can achieve excellent investment returns while actually lowering the risk in his portfolio.

Even if one chooses not to implement the complete strategy outlined by Swedroe, the book offers insights into investing that cannot help but improve portfolio performance.

This book is suitable for the beginning investor as well as the sophisticated person that makes his living from the market. Read it!
