Sexual politics on the frontier
The opening book of the Seth Strummar saga, this book lays out sexual politics on the frontier with no holds barred. An exciting tale of love and revenge, I relished every page of it.

For The Love Of A Bad Man
This is a poignant, gripping tale of a violent man and an experienced young woman trying to make their love work against the odds laid down by his past. Also enjoyable is the budding sidekick who gives up the priesthood to follow the outlaw. A great story, powerfully written.

A superbly written biography and "peace study".
Peace is Everybody's Business focuses on the peace making efforts of Elizabeth Baker and her husband, peace advocates and educators who proved pioneers in the field in the last part of the 20th century. Readers receive both an excellent biography of Baker and a focus on the establishment of peace studies in higher education. The latter is especially important as few books have examined this process.

Elizabeth Baker's Quest for Peace
THIS IS MY FINAL REVISED VERSION OF THIE REVIEW. SORRY FOR THE PREVIOUS ATTEMPT. jack troy wrote: Elizabeth Evans Baker's Quest for Peace Reviewer: jack troy from Huntingdon, PA USA

Elizabeth Evans Baker (1902-1990) led a full life as First Lady at Ohio University, founder of the Monomoy Theatre on Cape Cod, as an actress, mother, patron of the arts, and poet, but her inner tuning-fork vibrated for the cause of peace. She struggled with an ancient human dilemma - how to discover and use moral imagination as an alternative to violence in resolving conflicts. Because she and her husband were in a position to put their ideals into action, they were instrumental in funding peace studies programs at a number of colleges, but Elizabeth was the driving force, as Marta Daniels documents in her well-organized, and clearly-written book. Elizabeth Baker was in a position to do something about the sad fact that America has a War College, but no Peace College. Her response was not only personal (as Daniels shows, through excerpts from EEB's diaries), but far-reaching, since she helped fund and organize peace-studies programs devoted to what has become known as "irenology" - the systematic, interdisciplinary study of the causes of war and the conditions of peace. Her dedication helped establish and enlarge an awareness that has materialized so that nearly 200 U. S. colleges now offer courses and undergraduate degree-granting and certificate-granting Peace Studies programs. As I read this book I was struck by the degree to which Mrs. Baker's idealism found pragmatic expression with enduring effects, as authenticated by her persistence for 20 years to make possible Maya Lin's Peace Chapel at Juniata College in central Pennsylvania. Visiting the site helps me realize what this book documents: that art and peace can be as linked in locale as they were in the mind and spirit of Elizabeth Evans Baker.

A woman unwilling to submit
This novel is about Beulah, a woman who despite her chances to have a "perfect" life refuses to submit to convention. Much of the book focuses on philosophy as a justification for her position and at other times a condemnation of her actions. A wonderful read for the deep thinker. Definitely not beach reading....

a special place for me
I read and enjoyed this book as a child. I most remember how absolutely special and thoughtful it was of Evan's mom to accept and appreciate his need for a "place of his own." My apartment was quite like Evan's, filled to brimming with relatives both noisy and nosy. How tender the feeling created in the reader as Evan uses his space, and comes to treasure both his own little world and that he shares with others.

insightful
I came upon this book by chance and immediately had to buy it. For anyone struggling with religion and spirituality this book is for you. The book will inspire you to look beyond religion, to believe in yourself and others. In a few pages within the book the little dog states "I believe my friends have as much spirituality as any monk, each person carries a distinct and personal energy, we are each powerful and delicate, simultaneously." This book is fun and thoughtprovoking.

From the back cover of the book
Three proud generations, whose passion for the land was surpassed only by their passion for each other... It was the last of the giant California ranches, and one family shaped its destiny for generations...Leander Champion Buckles III dominated a room the way mountains dominate the plains. He loved Cira Pico McCartney, the beautiful half-Spanish girl whose dark eyes were flecked with gold. Though they could never marry, together they would forge a Golden Empire. Over the years the passion of the Buckles family nourished and built the land. And, as new gernerations grew up and took over, it was the same human passion that ultimately threatened to destroy the Golden Empire.

An exellent overview of assays used by medicnal plant resear
This book collates many of the known methods for evaluating the pharmacological activity of plant extracts. It highlights useful invitro assays such as anti inflammatory, cardiovascular and respiratory areas aswell as natural products that affect the nervous system, endocrine system and the gastro intestinal tract. All these in vitro and in vivo models are conveniently placed in one book. My only reservation is that the book relies heavily on animal experimental models for validation and I would have preferred a book that included more information on alternatives to animal experiments and also more studies relating to human pharmacology.

Seth Strummar Rides Again!
I have waited so long for this book. I have the other "Seth Strummar" series books, and I had to hold off reading the one after this book ("Breaking Even"), so I wouldn't have a break in the series. I am so glad I waited. I read her first Seth book one year ago, and I was hooked. Found it at a little clearence store and I nabbed two of her books and devoured them. This book is no different. It takes Seth on his continuous journey to redemption only this time he is riding along with his five year old son, Lobo. Lobo almost seems to be heading in the same direction as Seth, but our good old pal, Joaqin, is along to keep em in line! I won't give away too much. All I have to say, is any Elizabeth Fackler book you can get your hands on would be to your benefit!!

Supplies: A Pilot's Guide to Creative Flight
This book is required reading for anyone who has used Julia's former books to actually create works of art! In this manual for creative flight she describes all the monsters that leap up in your face as you prepare to fly and the ones that try to wreck your creative projects. She speaks in a no nonsense, humor-filled tone--She cuts to the bone about those devils who tempt us to flirt with them instead of concentrating on our creative careers. Not only does she break them down into horrifying, simple catagories, but she teaches us how we can wave a magic wand and dispell the curse of these people. This book is a true gem for any creative artist. Buy it immediately.

a lesson in love and patience
I read "Angel Unaware" about 20 years ago and could not put it down until I finished it. Mrs. Rogers said she was inspired by God to write this book and I know in my heart only someone in tune with God could have written such a heartfelt book. Over the years I lost my copy and have searched everywhere for another copy with no avail. After I got my computer, I found you folks and thank God, at last, I found my dream. I have never been able to think about or tell anyone about this wonderful book without feeling the wonderful warmth and joy I felt 20 years ago when I first picked up this book. I have never read a book since that touched me the way this book did. Thank you for preserving this wonderful work of art even now that the wonderful author, Dale Evans Rogers is at long last at home with that beautiful angel of hers.

Wonderfully touching and tender!!!
I read this book for the first time when I was a very young girl, probably about 12 years of age. I loved it then and have always wanted to re-read it. I recently found another copy and just finished reading it. I found it to be even more wonderful now that I am fully grown and a mother myself. The book brought tears to my eyes and I will always cherish the reading of this book. I would love to see everyone read this book. It really puts things in perspective.

It is timeless. I have held it in my heart for 20 years
I read this book as a little girl blind to what troubles that others had. Thanks to this inspiring heartfelt portrait told through Robin's eyes, I became aware of the world beyond my small circle. I hold it and Helen Keller's story highest in my wide range of past reading. I bought both for my two daughters in hopes that it might teach them the compassion and acceptance I value so deeply. Now at 30 I have been diagnosed with MS and I feel that the experience of these books have truly helped me to endure the drastic changes in my life. Every child should read this book. They might see things a little clearer if they did. Thank you Mrs. Evans for sharing your beautiful ANGEL with the rest of us!
