funny, great book!
this is about a family of 4 doing all these unusual things. like hopping on a boxcar during recces, dancing with a dog, or getting locked in a bread box! they love their house "the yellow house" but then it's for sale! will they have to move? read the book to find out.

A beautiful little piece of life
There is something so very special about the Moffet books. The author really seems to remember childhood as few authors do. She knows what kind of little moments are so important then, but disappear from most of our minds as we get older. She is especially good at describing places---the town the Moffets live in comes so alive, and I can picture just where their house is on their street, although it must have been 15 years since I last read this book!

A good book, review by Michelle Blaz
After reading "Wayne Estes: A Hero's Legacy" I had learned so much from it. Even though Wayne was originally from Anaconda I did not know very much about him. Olson does an excellant job with details, there are so many, that you can almost picture yourself at the scenes in this book. Such as the basketball game, and when Wayne walked right into the live wire. I have read the book twice now and I am writing a research paper on it now in my English class. It is an magnificent reference and has a lot of information. If you haven't read this book yet I really encourage you to do so if you are interested in basketball.

A captivating, enchanting story for girls of all ages.
For more than 30 years, I've been searching for a copy of The Witch Family. It's been in libraries but I couldn't remember the proper title or author until one day last year, I stumbled upon listings for Eleanor Estes quite by accident. I quickly grabbed up a beaten up copy (which was very comforting....it looked just like the one I used to repeatedly check out of the library back in the 1960's!). I stood there and hugged the book and then rushed home and tried to explain to my husband that I was 8 years old again and I had business with Amy, Clarissa and the little witch girl to attend to. Why is this book so special? I don't know...Maybe because I moved a lot and always had to make new friends, where Amy and Clarissa were inseparable best friends. Maybe because of the wonderful imagery and fantasy level: the fear and fascination of witches and the idea of a sweet baby witch girl conjured up by the girls' drawings. There was also a mermaid and baby mermaid...what little girl wouldn't be in heaven with all these characters? I think another attraction of the book is that it's virtually adult-free. There is a wicked old witch but even her actions are controlled by Amy and Clarissa. I believed in this book wholeheartedly. I could picture the girls trick or treating on Halloween, I could hear the effect their stopped up noses had on their voices when they had to stay in because they had colds, I believed that if I looked closely at the moon, I'd see the little witch girl, baby in tow, on her broomstick. I love this book. When I finally re-discovered it, I was returned to my childhood.

Two normal little girls make a witch behave herself
This is a book I loved as a kid, and was delighted to rediscover. In addition to all the details about how witches live, this is a great book because it combines all the scary elements of the traditional witch (including Halloween) but the little human girl Amy is the boss and the old witch has to follow Amy's rules. Nice combination of fantasy and comfort, plus a happy ending. A few very nice illustrations. Just right for a read-aloud for my second grader.

A childhood classic!
When I was a little girl I loved all books having to do with magic, and especially witches. This book was my all-time favorite. I checked it out of the library so many times that eventually the card in the back was filled up with my signature on both sides!

This book is about magic, but it's also about the power of imagination. The Witch family, all though very real in their own right, have been created out of the mind of little girl who's mother first introduced her to them. Amy appoints herself caretaker to the witch family, and through the pictures she draws of them she can keep tabs on all that is going on in their world "up on the great glass moutain".

A benchmark of good childrens literature, this book holds up under the test of time. I have re-read it as an adult and still enjoyed it very much. I can't wait until my own children are old enough for me to share it with them.

Rufus M.
This book is about a 7-year old boy and his imaginitive ways of going through life during a war. Rufus has many siblings and surprisingly enough he acually gets along with all of them. Rufus is an imaginative, intelligent, and adorable little boy.

An old man writes ...
I was given this book to read when I was 7 years old. I was ill at home and my mother dropped it on the bed as I had been pestering her for something to read. It looked unpromising. I liked books about war and dinosaurs and soccer. None of these seemed likely to feature in Rufus M.

Though I would not have used the word then, I was enchanted. Estes sketched out a world I wanted to leap straight into.

This is such good a book that it has stuck in my memory as a happy thought about a distant time. I found myself thinking about it as I sat at my desk this evening and googled my way here. I'm 37 tomorrow. 30 years on and it's still with me.

Ginger Pye...
Ginger Pye was awesome. My friend let me borrow it for my book talk in english. And I just finished it! It took me about a week. This book is good because it is like a mystery book and I love mysteries! The main characters in this book are Jerry, Rachel, Uncle Bennie and Ginger Pye. Jerry always wanted a puppy and worked hard to earn a dollar to get one. Until someone in a mustard colored had captures him who is Ginger Pye. Will Jerry and Rachel get him back? Read and find out! This is a great book! I really enjoyed it!

The Best Dog Book I've Ever Read!
Ginger Pye is about a boy named Jerry and his sister Rachel. When Jerry decides he wants a dog, Rachel, Uncle Bernie, and him work so hard to earn a dollar to buy the smartest pup in town. On there way home from grandma's with the puppy a mysterious footstepper was following them. Then on Thanksgiving Day Ginger Pye is stolen. Could Ginger have been stolen by the mysterious footstepper? Or someone else? Where is Ginger Pye and will the Pye family ever get back their smart pup?

Ginger Pye
I think this book is very good because every time a new chapter starts, a mystery begins which leaves the reader in suspense. The plot is about a dog that is really intelligent and someone wants to steal the dog. The person who stole it was Wally Bullwinkle. I think the author describes the dog really good. For example, the dog picks up the pencil and gives it to Jerry Pye during school. The author keeps on describing the dog, which shows that he is very intelligent. I really recommend this book because it is easy to read and it has a lot of adventure in it.

Middle Moffat
The Middle Moffat

Jane Moffat wants to help the oldest inhabitant of her town, reach the age of 100, and now he's 99. Jane tries to help him but he's always doing stuff that 99-year-old-men shouldn't do. She tries to look out for him without anyone noticing.
While Jane is looking out for the oldest inhabitant, she gets some problems herself. Her best friend has gotten angry at her because she didn't take her side at school. She finds out that she has a secret talent for basketball by helping the local team win. Jane also becomes the first one to stand up to the mechanical wizard, (a smart boy who knows a lot about mechanics) who gathers people's stuff, takes it apart, and leaves it in his basement.
I think Eleanor Estes did an okay job of writing this book. To me, it was a little boring because in some parts not much happened. I think if she summarized these parts in a few sentences, it would've been a much better book. This book is a decent fiction story, but I think it would be best for a younger girl like Jane.

Very funny
I read this book to my three boys ages 9,6 and 3 and they could not stop laughing. Jane's imagination and simple ways of viewing life around her really capture what it is like to be a kid. We had to stop several times so that they could act out certain parts. I think Jane is a friend that we all would like to have. She's beyond nice and there is never a dull moment when she is around (whether it's in her mind or really happening). Now that we have read the book we really miss Jane.

A Great Book!
This is a great book. Jane is always busy doing something. She is trying to be brave like Nancy and she was by standing up to Wallie Bangs. You should read this book.

A smart cat named Pink Pye
Pinky Pye is a cute, funny ,exciting, and questioning kind of book.My favorite part is when the Pyes find Pinky. Then find out that Pinky can type on Mr.Pyes type writer.I really liked
this book.Kathryn Arnold...>

Pinky Pye
This story is about the Pyes (Rachael, her brother Jerry, Mama, Papa, Gracie, Uncle Benny, and Ginger) who go on vacation so Papa ,a famous ornithologist, can figure out what a puffin is doing there. His bad memory gets him in a lot of trouble very early on in the book. Little did he know he wouldn't get much work done due to an abandoned kitten left on their cabin's door step. Pinkey Pye they called her, who would do anything just so someone will say she's cute. Mama brought plenty of coats (even though it was 90 degrees outside) just in case they were walking along the beach and a snow storm arived and matches in case they got lost. Her motto is "Be Prepared." Uncle Benny is Mama's brother even though he is 5 years younger than Rachael and Jerry(Mama's children). He wonders how his crickets are vanishing one by one. He is on a never ending quest to stop sucking his thumb. Gracie is a grumpy old cat who feins boredom through out although she is very interested in a creature lurking in the shadows of the attic... Ginger is the clever dog, but feels a little left out when Pinky steps into the picture. Will her jelousy overcome her common sense? Filled with laughs. Some of the suspence in this book will keep you laughing and crying over their detailed antics. I recommend reading Ginger Pye before this one though. All in All a good book.

A family travels to Fire Island and finds lots of surprises
The Pye family goes to Fire Island with Papa, the ornithologist father of the family. There they find a cat, and unravel the mystery of where Uncle Bennie's (the four-year old uncle of the 2 children) crickets are, and where Papa's ornithologist friend's pet owl is

The kids teased Wanda.
Hundred Dresses There was a little girl named Wanda. She was lonely, sad , & quiet. When it was recess she went to a brick wall & leaned against it.There were two other girls named Peggy & Maddie.Wanda did not like getting teased by the other kids. Peggy was the most popular girl in the school & she was the most liked kid in her class. Maddie was thoughtful & shy.Peggy & other kids teased Wanda the most.Wanda's teacher would call on her and say, "It's your turn to read !'' said Miss Mason.Wanda would not read at all & the other kids thought she was dumb or something ?

The other kids called Wanda a hollar polock.Wanda had a hundred dresses all linded up in her closet. Maddie said ''She must have liked us after all ''I liked the book and if you read it I hope you like it !!!

It's a good reminder to be nice to others.
The setting of the book took place up in Boggins Heights and in a school. The main characters in the book, The Hundred Dresses, were Peggy, Maddie, and Wanda. The book was about a girl named Wanda who was a new kid in school. She told girls like Maddie and Peggy that she had one hundred dresses. No one believed her. All they did was tease her. When Wanda brought in her dresses, everybody discovered she had drawn one hundred of them. Wanda's family left the school because everybody was teasing her.

I think the book was written to tell the reader not to tease someone. I didn't like it when kids teased me because it seemed like no one liked me. I liked the book because it has a lot of drama in it. It had sad moments like when Wanda left the school, serious moments when Peggy and Maddie were looking for Wanda, and happy moments like Wanda giving away two of her dresses.

I am glad my teacher made me read the book. It is a good reminder (to boys and girls), to be nice to others.

You've got to read this book!
The Hundred Dresses by Elenor Estes is a fiction story with a not very happy protagonist. The protagonist of this story is a girl named Wanda Petronski. She has a brother named Jake and a father. Some girls that tease Wanda are Peggy and Maddie. They always ask Wanda how many dresses or hats she has. She says that she has a hundred dresses all lined up in her closet all different colors. Peggy never belives that Wanda has a hundred dresses because Wanda never wears any of them. I would recommend this book to young reader because it is very interesting to see how a girl would be picked on. Also I would recommend this book to a young reader because it is a very interesting book to read.
