Being a Jet fan can be painful, but fun !
Gerry gave a very honest account of the New York Jets.

You'll enjoy the stories of the early years. Recounting the selling of season tickets from the apartment of one of the original owners, Walt Michaels finding a "good practice field" while fling home from an away game (it was located on the grounds of a NYC prison), the press' examination of Joe Namath's knee in the restroom of a local restaurant and many others.

Those who were at that dreadful Miami comeback at the Meadowlands in 1994 will relive that sick feeling in the pit of their stomach.

Parcells has come and gone and we still don't have another appearance in the Super Bowl. This book might expain why.

But we return each season with high hopes of reaching the big game. Reading Mr. Eskenazi's book will remind all of us of the pain we go through to have some fun on a sunny Sunday afternoon in the Meadowlands (NJ).

A Must For Any Jets Fan
This is a well-written history of the New York Jets. It covers the one great accomplishment (Super Bowl III) and the many failures and disappointments. As a fan you love the team and always get your hopes even though you know they will dash them in the end. This book covers those emotions well.

Now more than ever
Along came Bill Parcells and New York thought its troubles were over. Last year we were a half hour from the Superbowl and now we're in the cellar again. If you find yourself scratching your head and asking why. This book has the answers--the history of the Gang Green struggle and where we went wrong.

Dragged a lot
For some reason, this book seemed to take forever to read. It just doesn't get that exciting. A solid tale of a hard working kid that worked his way to greatness, but you won't be sprinting through the pages. Nothing to get excited about.

A great baseball book...
I highly enjoyed the book and its compelling story of one of the finest ballplayers ever. I recommend for people who haven't read a baseball book ina while and want to get back into it.

This book,like Yaz,the BEST!
You really can appreciate the hard workand deadication it took Yaz to achievehis stats! A good hitter and an evenbetter fielder!!!

The Gyp
You know, for someone who's written as many sports books as Eskenazi, you'd think he'd have done better.

For one thing, this sizable Durocher biography lacks depth. In many cases Leo's statements vary from those of others. The author definitely did some research into who was lying and who was not, but he doesn't take a stand very often. In a book about someone like Durocher, this is an unfortunate weakness.

For another, it doesn't reveal much that we didn't already know. Peter Golenbock, in _Bums_, was far more candid about Durocher. For another, it's not funny or even very entertaining. How one could make a subject like Leo Durocher dull is a difficult question to answer, but Eskenazi succeeded.

What's far worse, though, is the weighting of coverage. My copy is 315 pages. Eight years of Durocher's managerial career were spent managing the Cubs and Astros in the late sixties; dozens of players and executives from that era who worked with Leo are alive, well and probably willing to discuss it, but Eskenazi seemingly didn't think that was worth his time: the part about the Cubs begins on page 292. 292 pages for childhood, Yankees, Reds, Cards, Dodgers, Giants and Dodgers again; 23 for Cubs, Astros and Durocher's penile implant.

I recently ordered another baseball book by Eskenazi. I sure hope it's better than this.
