Awesome!
I have been a fan of this movie for years and have seen it well over 500 times. Although I found three minor erros in the transcript while I read the book, It was still great.
Buy This Book!
As a screenwriting instructor, I'm always looking for material that will help my students understand the language of story. This is it!
This movie is the best of its genre...
...and will never be surpassed. There's nothing i can add. This simply has to be seen to be believed.

Funny, witty and sharp commentary on modern love.
Nora Ephron's "Heartburn," is one of my all time favorite novels. I read it whenever I'm feeling blue, especially if I'm blue about relationships. Ephron writes funny, and does it better than just about anyone, with many dead-on observations about life. She is a true romantic disguised in cynic's clothing, and a food lover to boot. I've adopted several of the recipes that are sprinkled throughout the book, keeping my dogeared copy in the kitchen for years until it became too grease-stained and precious. It reminds me of Laurie Colwin's "Home Cooking," only with more bite. It is true that Ephron tends to recycle some of her best material: readers will find quips from this novel popping up in Ephron's screenplays. No matter; for fans of Ephron, they play just as well the second time around. The movie "Heartburn," didn't do this book justice.
One of my all-time favorite novels
this book would be worth the price of admission were it simply to contain the life-saving pototo recipes and their droll commentary. it would not be an exagerration to say I've read this book more often than I care to admit -- its wit, poignancy, and page-turning vivacity make it a modern classic, especially for women. I also enjoyed the film -- it's difficult to dislike anything that stars meryl streep and jack nicholson; and the music by carly simon was memorable. read the book, then rent the movie. you won;t be disappointed.....
Worth rehashing the second day.
Nora crafted one of my all-time favorite books. Why I picked up a paperback copy as a freshmen in high school is beyond me. Why I finally got around to reading it at 18 is also a mystery. Why I've reread it more times that my dogged copy can tell is no mystery meat; sadness steeped in life's tea. In real life, I've played the part of the toddler in this tale. Wish I could say my folks were class acts, such as the author and her former spouse, but chicken fried steak is more common in middle America than Lillian Hellman's Pot Roast.

Better when seeing it...
You just don't get the feel of this extraordinary, unusual and unique play of Mary McCarthy and Lillian Hellman - two rival authors during the communist scare - from reading it. I was given the pleasure of seeing this incredible play starring Cherry Jones and Swoozie Kurts in its Broadway run. When the two authors meet in the afterlife, they tell their audience about their lives, beginning with their cleverly told childhoods and slowly moving forward to McCarthy's accusation of being a Communist and ending with Hellman's death before the trial was set by Hellman and McCarthy to discuss McCarthy's lies about Hellman's so-called memoirs. Still clever and still stunning, Ephron's play is an enjoyable read for McCarthy (THE GROUP) and Hellman (THE CHILDREN'S HOUR) fans.

Funny at times but some material very dated
I enjoyed part of this book. I laughed at a few of her stories but some of the chapters were so dated that I didn't know what she was talking about let alone whether it was funny. Maybe I was a bit too young to appreciate it all.
Disappointing if you've read th original edition
I feel completely bilked by this book. I had read the original edition, and loved it, when I was a teenager, so was thrilled to see it back in print. WELL! Unfortunately, the editors have actually taken a few of the articles from the original, packed in a few chapters of Scribble Scribble (which I loathed), and a random Esquire article. Ugh! I wanted the RoseMary Woods chapter. I wanted the Linda Lovelace chapter. I wanted the articles I remembered fondly. Instead, I got this dreck. The only reason I don't rate it even lower is because the writing is, as ever, quite good. But if it's not going to be the actual book it purports to be, I wish Modern Library would change the title....
Love this book
I read this book years ago and bought it again for my daughter. The piece on breasts is just as hilarious and relevant today (sad to say) as it was when I first read it.
