Good, But Read With Caution!
As a physician recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, I found the book entertaining and easy to read in 2-3 hours due to the large text. I applaud him for encouraging men to have their prostates checked starting in their 40's. Unfortunately, the book is directed to Blacks more than to all men. The reader is cautioned that the author delays treatment and eventually chooses one form of therapy at a specific institution. The treatment option that has the greatest chance for cure is downplayed. Use this book as only one resource among several. Also, I would have liked more encouragement to let the diagnosis change your life for the better. Best wishes.

Extraordinary presentation of a very complex subject
This book impressed me because it presents a layman's view of prostate cancer in a very personal manner. The statistics presented in the book are an education on the number of African American men stricken with the disease. Reading this book has given both my husband and me a new perspective on prostate cancer and generated an interest in doing what we can to educate others. I recommend the book highly for anyone who wants to learn about the disease, anyone who has the disease, and families of those stricken with the disease. Dr. Walker has presented a very complex subject in terms that anyone can understand. Bravo!!

A MUST READ for anyone interested in prostrate cancer.
This is an excellent first hand description of how one individual faced the challange of being diagnosed with prostrate cancer. As a recent prostrate cancer survivor, I can personally relate to the "human" aspect of this challenge.

The author goes into the issues of fear, loneliness, denial, outrage and all other emotions most people experience after being diagnosed with cancer. Of particular signifance is the way he openly deals with the reluctance many men have in facing prostrate disorders because of the sexual ramifications of treatment options.

African American men get prostrate cancer more than any other ethnic group and they have the highest death rates. This book can be especially usefull to African American men as the author is both African American and a minister.

If you are a male forty or over or a female who has the interest of a male in this category...... you can benefit tremendously by reading this very personal account of how one person dealt with this growing problem.
