The book has an excellent introduction to ASP.NET for web services. It probably is worth just going over the first two chapters to get a flavor of web services. Word of caution, I downloaded the VB samples, and they were a bit buggy. If you are a C# developer, the code in the book was fine. The VB code was not...

In addition, the writer is extremely honest and non-judgemental, providing the reader only with "facts" about his experiences which allows the reader to draw their own conclusions...
I have read SEVERAL books about Judaism, as I am converting soon, and although this was not on my "reading list," I believe this book has been the most insightful and helpful in painting a vivid picture of my new family and that without bias.
This is NOT a theological book... it is a book of heritage in today's modern world.
PS
Captivating and an easy read... I finished this book over two days... Worth this short amount of time!

An alpha release called HailStorm in a Box, or HSiaB, is available now for developers wanting a head start. HSiaB runs only on your LAN with your HS server doing the work of the future Microsoft server. It's free on the Microsoft web site. HS is all implemented in SOAP and XML of course. HSiaB requires Windows 2000 and SQL 2000 and each of these is free in a trial version from Microsoft as well.
This is bleeding edge stuff and the name "in a Box" is reminiscent of the early (1994) exciting days of browsers when many of us got "Internet in a Box" from Spyglass, the holder of the first Mosaic commercial license. HSiaB is not a revolutionary event like Mosaic, but it is very significant.
The book is a quick 203-page guide to HSiaB with plenty of coded examples. This is great fun for the serious geek even if you hate the name Microsoft. You can pick it up and finish it in one sitting since the code can be comprehended without actually running it. Installing HSiaB (fully explained in the book) and running the code will give hours more of fun. Think of something so new that you actually do some setups from a command line. Bill must have hacked this together himself. Way to go, Bill!
Imagine getting excited about something like this during the holidays. I must be sick. I picked it up at 5:30 AM this morning and could not put it down.

I used it for a rushed 1st year dynamics course, and found the book utterly useless. The concepts are scattered and are introduced using complicated mathematics, some of which is beyond 1st year level. Even simply trying to read through the verbal explanations is near impossible for beginner students, simply because of the depth of knowledge required to do so.
The problems, while plentiful, are simply too difficult. Original thinking is one thing, these problems require something else entirely. I realise, of course, that textbooks must be challenging in order to maintain academic standards, but this book goes too far, to the point where students end up discouraged from the subject simply because the concepts are so difficult.
While I maintain the greatest respect for Mr Beer, as I am sure that he is a brilliant engineer (his book is testament to that), the text is simply too in-depth. For future editions, I recommend that he go through the book and greatly simplify both the language and the problems.
Until this book is simplified, I recommend the Hibbler Dyanmucs text to any other students out there.
