Very Well Done
This is a fabulous work. The book is large every page is like 2 pages of a regular size book. Great photos on all of the major breeds. The history section in the front is very informative. I read it cover to cover over time and this is the book I refer to when I want to show a breed to a friend.

Every horse lover should own this book!
This is a very beautiful book with lovely photos of horses. You can learn soo much from this book and about all different types of horses. This book also tells about horse sports and how they started to give you more of an understanding. Great for horse lovers.

An incredible artist's reference!
As an illustrator, I have to say that if you're looking for a good photo reference for horses this is perhaps the BEST guide you could ever ask for. The breed section alone is well worth the investment, and the photographs provided are just exquisite.
Once again DK publishing has come through with a gorgeous guide book, and I for one am tremendously grateful they did.

This is a book for all horsenuts!!!!
This a really cool book! I read it from cover to cover. I learned stuff about horses that I never knew and learned about breeds of horses that I never knew existed! This a good book for beginner horsenuts.

DK Handbooks: Horses
I have been taking riding for two years.Just a couple of days ago my instructor said I was the smart intellect of my age group at the barn.I think getting this book really helped. It covers a lot of breeds and information on them. This book is great so if your horse crazy I would reccomend getting this book!!!

Excellent Book for Breed Identification and History
I am so glad that I purchased this book. I needed a reference guide to help me identify different breeds of horses and ponies for the Photo Model Horse Shows that I have been participating in. Since I will eventually judge a show, I needed to be prepared to classify horse breeds from the photograph entries that will be sent to me. It is easy to read, the photographs are lovely, and there were only a few breeds not listed. Good job!

Beautifully illustrated; informative horse specs
This encyclopedia is ideal for those horse lovers (or folks just interested in horses) who want a beautifully illustrated book on horse breeds. The authors provide enough useful information on each breed without getting bogged down in too much unnecessary detail. The only drawback i found was that the book does not provide any information on horse care, tack or horse management.

Great photography
I've owned a copy for years and never get tired of pouring over it. It's the excellent photography and layout of the book that I love. You really get a sense of the look of an individual breed and there's some history all woven through. So I sent a copy to my niece for her birthday and she is raptly glued to the pages. She's trying to decide what kind of horse to buy when she moves to Montana. Highly recommended!

An absolutely beautiful effort

I can't imagine a more beautifully presented or informative book for anyone interested in horses. This large (10" X 12", 400 page) volume, is replete with full color illustrations tracing the evolution of the horse from Eohippus and Mesohippus to the present, and every major breed of horse and pony to date, as well as their vital contributions to human society down through the centuries.

More than 150 breeds of horses are pictured in full-color photographs or illustrations, depicting their characteristics, myriad uses, origins and facts and anecdotes about them.

The Encyclopedia of the Horse has chapters on their history, early domestication, classical riding, the great stud farms, international sporting events and breeding trends, and how horses changed the course of history throughout the world.

This truly beautiful book is one for your coffee table; guaranteed to impress visitors and stimulate conversation. It is one of the most exquisite volumes in my library.

Bad research
Being a registrar for a breed listed in this book, I/we was/were not contacted for input, verification of facts stated or comments in any respect. This makes the quality of the book highly suspect.

One part indicates the breed does not breed consistant from generation to generation. We have registered 6 continuous current generations and can document each is as true as any offspring can be ... certainly as clearer as the large breeds of today.

Great pictures, not much detail
This is a must have picture-book of horse breeds, but it will need to be supplemented by other books for adequate information on choosing, caring for and breeding your horse.

This Book Gives so Much Info.
This book is such a wonderful book! One of my favorite animals are horses and I think this book tells you soooo much about them. They give you wonderful photos of horse breeds from A to Z! They also tell you how to take care of horse and what to feed them. It also tells you which breed is right for you! I got this spectacular book from my dad and ever since he gave it to me, this book was my favorite horse book ever. This should be a great gift for anybody who loves horses or doesn't love horses. Once a horse lover reads this, they will fall in love with it. Once a person who doesn't love horses reads it, they might just begin to think horses are okay! I think this book is very helpful for anybody.

A definitive guide to saddlery and tack will save you money!
Ever wonder why some people use the equipment they do when riding their horses? Why they use a certain bit, certain martingale, saddle type? Although imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, your horse may not need the latest "in" piece of tack.

This book is a wonderful and interesting read, as well as a great reference for the English rider. Each chapter is organized by equipment type. A brief history of the why and how it is used, differences in features and types help the horseman choose a piece of equipment with purpose, not just because it is the current fad.

The more you read and learn, they more you realize how much money you'll save! By understanding the how and why of the equipment, you'll be less likely to make purchasing mistakes. And your horse will thank you for not using an unnecessary, or even detrimental piece of equipment.

My copy is well worn from reference. If I lost it, I'd replace it in a heartbeat.
