THEE book to start at for newcomers into real estate
I am a real estate investor for 10 years now. Have amassed a personal library of well over $10,000 of tapes and books on the subject. And personally involved in 40 real estate transactions in the yr 2000. With that said, this is the book to read.

My first year of marriage had my non-real estate wife read that book. In exchanged, I was forced to endure, Man are from Mars and Woman are for Venus. I wanted for her to understand financial philosophies.

This is a timeless book of philosophy. For you newcomers in real estate here's a precious idea... Look at 100 homes in a neighborhood. Talk to the realtor and the mortgage broker and analyse the deal. Guess what, at the end of those 100 homes you are the expert! Now every house you see in that area, MAKE AN OFFER! No more excuses after that.

Okay, I know you still have the no money excuse. Blah, just "noise" in your head.

Read this book if interested in real estate investing. Don't if you aren't. It's a fun read with cartoon character of workers going to work with carrots on their head. Dont worry that its written in 1980? It is timeless.

You Can Do It Too
We used Mr Greene's book and began our own home rental business. In less than 2 years, with no prior realestate knowledge or experience we have acquired 8 homes, 2 duplexes, an apartment complex (hardly tycoon speed!) AND generated a large positive cash flow. We have also been able to take advantage of his tax strategies, and received unbelievable returns. Thanks to Mr Greene, our business is expanding rapidly, and my husband will soon be retiring from his job, never to work for someone else again. We see a very lucrative future ahead. The tax laws in this country were set up in a time when most everyone owned their own businesses. To take advantage of tax benefits, you must have some kind of business. Use his insight to see what YOU can do to take advantage of the benefits that were created for us all.

Underground Classic on Real Estate Investing
It really is possible to purchase real estate profitably with little or no money down, or even cash back. While some information is outdated, Greene provides a comprehensive, easy to read and funny introduction to the subject. The step by step plans work; more important, he shows you the principles of building a bank relationship, finding suitable properties, and negotiation. However, one should research the subject thoroughly, including talking to experienced and creative no-money-down investors in one's area, and looking at many properties,as Greene recommends. Greene also shares some of his Libertarian Philosophy, showing how average people can make money, while warning against some of the nuttier government regulations

A light shining in darkness...
I am usually a critic of "Life of Christ" stories. It's easy for me to mount my soap box and say, "If one wants to learn of the life of Jesus, read the gospels." However, this book was different. Oursler remains faithful to the biblical accounts of the life of Jesus, weaving the material from the four evangelists together to produce a truly great narrative. For those thirsty for some reading on the life of the Lord, I would certainly still point them first (and always) to the Scripture; however, I must admit that, regarding Oursler's narrative, there is some value to be gained from the stirring of the heart this story produces. Highly recommended for all -- both young and old.

Great for teens who know nothing about Jeus Christ.
Read this book out loud to your family and use it for discussions about the life of Jesus Christ. I have a 13 year old son who knew very little about Jesus, and now has a simple but deep grasp of the story. It has lead to talk about Jesus' miracles, His inspirational teaching of morality, and His resurrection. This book is accurate in every particular to the gospel of Mark. Oursler does a good job of describing the facts of the gospel in novel form so that the people come alive again. The language is challenging and specific, though not complicated. Oursler knows the definitive meanings of words and uses them well, but puts them in understandable context. One small remark that might be construed as a complaint: the physical descriptions of Jesus are true to the classical western paintings of a brown haired man with light eyes. Small quibble, not important. Oursler captures the spirit of the man and the glory of God in Him. If you need to "read" the Bible story before beginning your study of the Word, this book will give you a clear picture of the life and teachings of the Master. Enjoy!

The historical Jesus comes alive!
The Greatest Story Ever Told is one of the most compelling books on the life of Christ I have ever read. Above that, Edward Herrmann's reading is artful and compelling. It's an excellent introduction to your friends who don't know Jesus, and for yourself if you want to grow in your understanding of the greatest man that ever lived.

Perfect for college classrooms tired of the same old thing!
This book is a wonderful new view of government in the United States. Unlike the typical cynicism filled book that points out all problems in our society stemming from our government, this book makes specific recommendations to our government. Instead of sitting back and complaining, these authors tell us exactly what needs to be done!

This book is very refreshing and will fit in a college, or even an AP High School Government classroom, perfectly. Students have a wonderful opportunity to evaluate their reccomendations, come up with their own, and examine the problems raised b the authors.

Simply the Best
By far the best informed and most complete review of Edward Said and his thoughts that I have come across to date. Ashcroft and Ahluwalia take the time to explain all the background information that is absent in most introductory books.

This volume take great pains to explains Said's key concepts, ideas, contexts and impact. Both authors take the time to address reference to both his scholarship and journalism. The range of ideas include:
(1)the function and space of text and critic in "the world"
(2)Power/Knowledge
(3)the social construction of the "Other"
(4)the joins between culture and imperialism
(5)exile
(6)identity and
(7)Palestine.

It needs less explanation from me and more engagement from the reader to get the fullness of the experience. What is key is how well they have taken the time to explain through most of Said's interlocutors such as Dennis Porter, Aijiz Ahmad and Robert Young - to name a few. The key is to keep in mind the critique of Said and how fair and relevant they are. Said's use of Foucault is problematic and is discussed and certainly well explored in this book. Buy it, read it and digest it - then re read Orientalism.

Elixir of Life Manuscripts (The Centenary Edition of the Works of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Vol Xiii)

Essential For Hawthorne Readers
The Elixir Of Life Manuscripts include Septimius Felton; or The Elixir Of Life, The Dolliver Romance, Dr. Grimshawe's Secret, and The Ancestral Footstep. The first three very directly characterize an archetype for scientists that show up throughout other works by Hawthorne. The theme of the Ancestral Footstep, which is also interwoven as a plot in the other three works, surrounds a family secret which either leads the scientist figure to the discovery of the Elixir of Life, or entitles him to an inheritance. It is significant that none of these works were ever completed -- however, all are complete and distinct stories. Hawthorne usually planned out a plot so well that he did not need more than one draft to complete a romance. He clearly struggled with the themes of these works, since he never satisfied himself with either of his four drafts. I highly recommend these works as reading material for those who enjoy Hawthorne, or those who are interested in the study of the scientist or seeker in Hawthorne's works.

The Best There Is!
This series is the "must read" for all guitarists, regardless of how long you've been playing. It's a "guided treasure map" to the logic of the fretboard (no pun intended). Once you understand the patterns, your playing and your versatility will improve immediately. I have over 50 guitar books, and this series is the one to buy, if you're buying only one.

Nothing amiss about this satirical amateur sleuth

His family has owned the journal for two centuries and Lord Papworth will do anything to keep it alive and well. Desperate for help, he turns to Robert Amiss, offering the civil servant an opportunity to take over as the business manager of the Wrangler before the highly regarded periodical leaves the aristocrat bankrupt. After seeing the pre-computer technology that is deeply entrenched as part of the culture, Robert wants to miss out on this opportunity. However, Baroness Jack Troutbeck pushes Robert into taking over the business side of the journal.

It is hard enough to prod dinosaurs forward four decades. However, Robert soon deals with a killer murdering the members of the Wrangler staff. An unknown assailant kills the political editor and the magazine's editor. Robert worries that he too could be on the hit list. Robert assists as Jack tries to uncover the identity of a murderer.

The seventh Amiss satirical amateur sleuth tale retains all the charm, wit, and skewing of society that readers expect from Ruth Dudley Edwards. The story line is typical of Robert, who finds employment to be a deadly occupation. Jack remains delightfully insolent as Ms. Edwards knocks out journalism and inflexible customs with one punch.

565 page of pure unadulterated pulp!
When I first pick up this book I was a little skeptical of just how entertaining this collection would be. It turned out to be my favorite collection of short stories ever written. Now "pulp" fiction may not be the highest caliber of literature but you can't overlook the each author's usage of description, twists, and character names (i.e. Sam Culp, James Cargill and so on). I recommend this book to anybody who wants to have a good time with a great book.
