Fosse Fan
I'm a regular Bob Fosse Fan. I believe everything he touches turns to gold, so this definetly is golden. The music pieces are one of a kind..."Nowadays", "Foxy Roxy", ..."All That Jazz". If you are looking for A vocal selection to sing for any reason, this has a WIDE variety of songs for Men And Women. It'll "Razzle Dazzle" YOU . . .

The Book Of One Of Broadway's Best
Kander and Ebb, who wrote the lyrics and music to this as well as Cabaret, Steel Pier and many others, are two of the most talented in the profession. Chicago is my second favorite muscial, losing out to Kander and Ebb's dramatic work Cabaret. Chicago is the darkest, funniest musical. The lyrics are cynical and the music is catchy. Particularly good is the song sung by the character Mary Sunshine called "A Little Bit Of Good" which is the only optimistic song in the score and is very much so, being so sacchrine that it's funny. Another favorite of mine is "Mr. Cellophane," which, when sung right, can be hilarious and, when cohreographed correctly, is even moreso. The score is perfect in my mind. "And that's good, isn't it great, isn't it fun..." it sure is.

Difficult to play, but fun to have!
You don't need to play the piano to enjoy this book. With 8 pages of picture, it's pretty enjoyable. Plus it has the lyrics, and the different stage ending for "cell Block Tango".

AMAZING!!! THE BEST YET!!!
I have the Broadway Vocal Selections, and that was just fabulous, but this one is by far my favorite. Kander and Ebb (Cabaret) are the kings of Broadway. And this one has my favorite Chicago song, "Cell Block Tango" which i loved on stage and loved even more on screen. These songs are the best, and I hope broadway shows get better and better, because in my opinion, these two gentlemen have set the bar...and it is high!!

This is the only way to see it now!
If you didn't see the show with Alan Cumming, this is the only way to capture it. Buy the CD, get this book, relax, and go to Cabaret. Having seen the show twice, this book is akin to a photo album of a favorite vacation. A must for every theatre fan!

Life is a Cabaret!
This is the next best thing to seeing Cabaret in studio 54! Pictures of the Roundabout theater production light up this book and tells the story of the revived new musical. This book does not tell the story of the Liza Minelli version, or any of the other Cabaret versions, but of that of the revival. I have seen the new production in person, and can only say that this is the next best thing...and the book even has the whole libretto in it!

Incredible!
This is an extraordinary book that captures a great element of the Roundabout Theater Company's production of "Cabaret." The book, pictures, reviews, and behind the scenes looks at the production are exquisite, and an absolute must-have for anyone who saw the musical and loved it as I did. Reading the text is a great method for reliving the experience, especially while listening to the CD.

How did Cabaret score??
Like all books, this book has its strengths and weaknesses, depending, obviously, on what you want out of the book: One of the many pulling factors of this book is that it contains every single piece of musical entertainment featured in "Cabaret", the public-performed musical. This means that it co-insides, I would imagine, to any licence (explained below). Every incidental, dance, song or chorus number is held in the score, which is absolutely amazing, as well as all the cue lines and orchestral parts!

So, this score is a conductor's score. The full score is written as a closed score (using the piano 2-staves). If you buy this book, you would have all the musical pieces you would need to put on the show yourself! You will be able to sing-a-long, almost, to the C.D. 'as written', as apposed to playing and singing from an empty vocal-selection book which may be on the market (no titles given). I would recommend this book, also, for people wanting to sequence, as it's a full score.

However, I have not given this book top marks. When I was trying to decide which book to buy (this score or the Cabaret collection) I had to make sure I knew what I wanted. Since this score was published new songs have been written, although not, as I understand, for public performance. These, for instance, include "Mein Herr", "Money, money", "Don't Go", "Maybe This Time" and the "cut songs", for example.

Also, this book is by no means an "easy-to-play" songbook for piano and voice. I, myself, although not the best pianist around, am finding that some instrumentals, for instance, and some songs are written for orchestra and voice, rather than just piano (likewise, any other solo instrument). I would also like to add that some of the music isn't the best for 'concert' performances, as it includes vast areas of instrumentals, just like the show itself!

So then, if you want a Cabaret score which would give the feeling of a live performance, as a conductor's point of view, and you want to play / sing the 'proper' songs and nothing which has been edited, and if you want a score which gives you every piece of music ready for performance, then BUY THIS BOOK! WOW! If, however, you want to play in concert the well-known songs, not scored in this book, or if you want to play relatively easy pieces of music, I would suggest, if I may, other books, such as the Cabaret collection (although I have never seen this particular book myself!).

Disappointing - could do better!
I have not bought this, but I have seen copies before and used them.

I was not very pleased with the selection of songs - they only concentrate on the songs featured in the film, which, frankly, isn't many at all. What is written has been arranged, so much in fact that 'Cabaret' itself is spread over 2-3 pages (as a chorus number) which looses all the emotion and essence of the song. All of the songs loose the feel for the show in the way it has been arranged and by how much of the songs are cut!

On a more positive note, it is for piano and voice so, essentially, it is 'easy to play' with (guitar) chords. It includes songs which aren't widely available, i.e. Mein Herr, Maybe This Time, Money-Money, (not available in the vocal Score). They are almost suitable for concert performances, if re-arranged.

I would not recommend buying this book at all, only if you can't, for example, play anything more difficult!

It's not bad!
I am a muscian and have played from this book. The arrangements aren't that bad though not always easy to play for beginners, but it is fairly complete and true to the musical.

Excellent collection of songs!
The Kander & Ebb music from 'Cabaret' is INCREDABLE -- no doubt about it. This collection includes all the greatest songs that get stuck in your head after you see this on stage or on video. It also has many pictures from the Liza Minelli/Joel Grey movie!

This is a prized piece in my sheet music collection!
