A Great Teaching Text
This is a cookbook-like approach to the teaching of poetic form. Each chapter presents a different form, a step-by-step guide to implementing a lesson with students (which is clear enough, I've found, to leave for a substitute lesson plan!), and selected examples of successful types. A great work for junior and senior high school general-level classes.

Great book - Fresh and Unusual
This book is a wonderful mix of fresh and unusual activities and guiding interludes by the authors. The book is not only a great way to get you creative juices lowing, but it is an inspiring read. Many of my students enjoy the interludes between activities as much as the activities themselves.
I would encourage any teacher to make this a part of your poetry toolbox.

The best how-to poetry book out there!
I hope this book isn't going out of print. It's a gift to be able to take lessons from a master poet like William Stafford, especially now that he has passed away. I don't know of any other poetry technique book that allows a student to really get their feet wet in language. This is a real treat in the exploration and discovery of language becoming poetry. You will get marvelous results working through these 20 exercises.

An insightful and holistic approach to painting!
This book is a choice pick for anyone interested in the humanities. Dunning skillfully incorporates philosophy with the artistic creation of the illusion of space over time. His ideas are thoughtfully presented, his language is clear, and his ideas are intelligent. It is clear that this man is well-read, and he combines this understanding with a strongly rooted comprehension of the process of painting.

An Introduction to Wesleyan Theology

Insightful Book on Wesleyan Theology
If you are looking for a book that offers insights into Wesleyan theology but does not take much time to read, this is your book. William Greathouse, former general superintendent with the Church of the Nazarene, and the late H. Ray Dunning do a great job of presenting consise Wesleyan theology in short chapters.

The book covers nearly every aspect of evangelical systematic theologies from the doctrine of God to the doctrine of last things. The book focuses on what Wesleyan's believe and they do not spend time debating with others who might disagree with them.

If you are looking for a short book that overs a short but consise view of Wesleyan theology than I highly recommend this book.

A Must for Career Artists!
I had the privilage of studying with Dr. Dunning the last two quarters of his teaching career. I can only give the highest praise for this book. Dr. Dunning's knowledge is supported by experience, not only his own, but that of the thousands of students he has prepared for sucessful careers in the art world. The advice he gives in this book is the same that he has taught to university art students for over 30 years. The stories he tells are real, the analogies varied and all sucessfully illustrate his points. This isn't a book full technical terms, but one written for anyone to read and understand (and often even laugh with). Though written from the perspective of a painter, Dr. Dunning's knowledge and insights are very applicable to any of the fine arts as well as disciplines outside the art world. The information on setting up your studio alone is well worth the price of the book. Save yourself the costly expense and time of making avoidable mistakes and learn from Dr. Dunning's vast knowledge. Read this book!

Very Inspirational
Mr. Dunning brings art to the forefront with his practical approach to aesthetics, postmodernism, color theory, and being in business (to name just a few). I read this book for a Computer Imaging class at Northern Arizona University, and the thoughts and discussions it provoked were extremely worthwhile....not just for basic knowledge, but for understanding ourselves and expressing ourselves through our art. Thank you, Mr. Dunning...I'm reading your Postmodernist Theory next!

Informative and realistic advice for any type of artist.
William Dunning does an excellent job of offering advice to young artists. He uses tangible examples to present concepts and ideas that relate directly the issues artists face when entering the "real world". As a student I have been enlightened by this book, and I was able to apply some of his concepts directly to situations in my life.
