Possibly thet worst calculus book ever
This book is downright horrible. Our professor took over the course, and is having us turn in our book and buy another one.

Dubinsky's questions are vague, and the discussion is entirely unhelpful. I find my self turning to my little sister's high school calculus book for explanation on some problems.

Great conceptual introduction
This book is wonderful. If it were not for the committee-to-tell-profs-what-book-to-use, I would have taught using this book. High on conceptual thinking with less emphasis on rote exercises, it is a great introduction. Not for everyone, though: Some people simply need to do a lot of rote exercises.

Another Serb nationalist
Moderate Serb nationalism is the consolation prize one expects when looking for dissent from that camp. When a Serb author shows a willingness to be the first to stop making excuses and to disavow fully genocidal Serb nationalism (what a hard thing to do!) that we will have a book worth reading. This isn't it.

The inside story
If you want some insight into the psyche of that pugnacious and obnoxious defendent at the International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia, this is the book to read. Slavoljub Djukic, a respected Serbian journalist, has been following the career of Slobodan Milosevic (as well as his wife Mirjana Markovic) since the rise of this dull communist functionary to national prominence in the late 1980s. Djukic researched his subject meticulously, and made good use of his many contacts in Serbian/Yugoslav political and media circles, to say nothing of his keen powers of observation over the last 10+ years. There are vivid descriptions of the personalities of both Milosevic and Markovic, whose influence on her husband was/is legendary. Djukic also provides a wealth of information on many other important figures in Serbian politics over the course of the last decade, from Milosevic's many accomplices and yes-men to opposition leaders. Another valuable, but more indirect, aspect of this book is that it provides some insight into the views of moderate Serb nationalists (like Djukic) who greatly opposed Milosevic's regime. This is essential reading for a better understanding of Serbian politics and recent Serbian history - although I suspect a new, updated edition is in the works given Milosevic's imprisonment and subsequent, very recent extradition to the Hague.

My first greatest disappointment!
This book is a waste of money. Very disappointing!

Hello, if anybody knows how I can contact Karen Dubinsky please Email me at Dubenskij@hotmail.com Her surname is a derivationof my own, I am desperately looking for members of my wider family to help me find out more about the family before they were expelled from Russia in the early part of this centuary. I am deeply interested as my Great Grandparents died when my grandfather was young and he lost contact with the other family members.

A good text for discrete mathematics !
This is a very good text book for use in a discrete mathematics class. It is also good for someone who would like to learn a lot of good math by learing the ISETL interactive computer language on their own. But the casual reader should beware, this book will take a lot of hard work. ISETL (Interactive Set Language) can now be downloaded from the net free of charge. It is a language specially developed to teach mathematics. Discrete math is of special interest to computer programers.

WTF did he just say?!
Well I did't like math in the first place, but this just make my life a living hell. The Author is my teacher and he is very vauge. My Adventure Through Hell, or M.A.T.H. for short is the most amount of mental torture I have ever been through. I give this book 5 stars as a fire starter. I am sure that if I had a Ph.D like the author then I would be able to understand it. It seems as though he has made this book and forgoten that for the most part the students who read this don't have a Ph.D in math. In Conclusion, this book severly
S U C K S.

WOW!
I too took a discrete math class that was based on this book. It's amazing how little can be explained in this little wonder. The text is riddled with questions for which there are no answers and then the exercises are merely a repositing of the questions found in the chapter. The result is that there are a lot of questions that no one can answer, except with the help of another text or exceptional teaching. Avoid this book at all costs. Personal note: When the class was finished, the students promptly burned the book....guess it was good for something afterall.

AMAZING BOOK
For once a book exists on the market that will make you think. I loved every minute of the book and I loved being able to learn things on my own. The concept of the book is to get you to think about the answers for yourself not for the answers to be given to you. I must say that the authors have outdone themselves with this book. If you are the type that loves to learn on your own then go for this book. Even so it is a great book to challenge your mind to.
