A true attention grabber
I personally enjoyed Halfway Man immensly. The style Drew used by telling the story in circles with no specific order was intriguing. The author is descriptive to a point that readers truely feel like they know the chacters and breath the same northern air. Overall I'm glad I got the chance to read this novel in English class and would recommend it to others. Drew is an amazing author and I am proud to say he is Canadian.

This book has changed my outlook on life.
Halfway Man has changed my perspective of nature and shown me that there is hope for the world. It made me realize the good and evil that are prevalent in all of us, and how to bring out the good more often than the evil. If I have learned nothing else throughout my highschool career, I have been taught patience, acceptance and spirituality by Wayland Drew. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the Earth Mr. Drew.

AMAZING
I enjoyed this book immensly. It was an insightful look into the native culture. It changed my life because I now know how much nature is loved by natives and how much they respect it.

Loved The Film, Not The Novel.
I have always been a huge fan of the Willow film. Val Kilmer and Joanne Whalley had great chemisty and it worked perfectly.

In the novel Kilmer's Madmartigan character doesn't come through as well. His wise-cracking antics and such are not presented well, if they are present at all.

The novel lacks description. Not of just places and people, but of actions. Too much does it rely on script-like dialogue to tell the story. Leaving the reader to figure out on their own what s happening during dialogues.

Like most novelizations, I read this one to hopefully hear a little more that went on in the story. Thankfully it was there. Some strange additions and welcome additions were in this novel. Entirely new characters and small new storylines are there. To my shock there is a red-haired king involved of which I don't want to go into too much detail, but the novel really surprised me with this little tidbit.

I grabbed a copy of this novel mainly to introduce me to the stories by George Lucas and Chris Claremont series that takes place after this story. Shadowmoon, Shadowdawn, and Shadowstar.

I don't regret that I read this novel as it only took me one sitting, but hopefully the rest of the Willowish novels will be better.

Willow's Missing Bits Made This Good
I am a big fan of the film and decided I would read the Chris Claremont/George Lucas trilogy that carries on the story recently.

I figured I would start with the novel before the trilogy, Willow (the film's novelization).

I have read some pretty terrible novelizations, and some really great ones. This one I'm giving an average rating. Overall it moves just like the film, although some of the action and most of the comedy that was in the film, is missing in the novel. Madmartigan's humour must have totally relied on Val Kilmer's performance. The other characters are up to par though.

The greatest reason to read this novel as a fan of the movie are the few scenes that must have been cut, or too expensive for the film. One thing that totally shocked me was the entire new character and storyline that was missing from the film! Sorsha's father! In the film you never meet him. In the novel it is great!

It's a short novel that took me a sitting to read. I don't recommend this novel to anyone other than fans of Willow, who will really enjoy the missing bits from the film!

This is possibly my favorite book
I got this book when I was in second grade (nine years ago) and now I have read it so many times the book is almost falling apart! I also watch the movie very often. I can't wait until all the books following this one are out!

Novelization of the film.
This novelization, like most, is more detailed and oriented to an older crowd than the movie.

This story is a staple of the whole Fantasy/D&D genre.

Dissappointing novelization of the film.
On a lark, and having found a copy that I bought but never read, I packed this novelization of the 1981 film for a vacation. In the film, Peter Mcnichol plays a sorcerer's apprentice who fights against a dragon when his mentor dies. "Dragonslayer" is actually the story of a battle between two evils - both the dragon and a corrupt king who holds lotteries to choose who will be sacrificed to the dragon to placate it. The novel adds many elements, but doesn't do much with them. The place is Urland, an ancient British kingdom in England about the time of St. Patrick, with the ancient ways of magic and similar superstitions giving way to a new existence basd on the cross. Few take the Christians that seriously and look for salvation to the magicians when Vermithrax, the evil dragon, takes up residence in Urland's heartland. The author seems to want to draw a picture of what life was like in those days as a new faith swept Europe and the Roman occupation remained very real in the people's minds. He even draws a better picture of the relationship between the Dragon and the magicians without having to explain it so succintly that there's no mystery. unfortunately, he doesn't get that far before he goes back to battle with the dragon. He also misses one important plot element - the Dragon itself. With the world at a crossroad between the lore of magic and the faith of the cross, the dragon has a meaning that also changes. To Galen, the young magician, the Dragon is the last of his kind, a bitter old monster intent on making life miserable for whoever it sees. For the Christains, the Dragon is not a stubborn remnant of a dying age, but the devil itself, intent on aborting a nascent religion. Though Galen and magic is the hero, it's the christian viewpoint that seems more compelling. This book is the one that teaches that Vermithrax means "Worm of Thrace".
