Incredible Artwork!
This is a beautiful & unique children's storybook about writing a book! It's a "folder size" glossy softcover, and is filled with vivid imagery and a couple of sentences per page. Published by Scholastic Inc, this book has been featured on the acclaimed PBS-TV children's show "Reading Rainbow".

A Fun Colorful Adventure
Simon's Book is a fantastic story for children of all ages that wonderfully illustrates what can happen when you use your imagination. Henrik Drescher's illustration and artwork along with the humourous plot-line and way-cool ending make it a MUST READ. :)

makes a good gift
This is a unique book with an unusual sense of humor that children and their parents can enjoy. (it's a bit twisted, but not too terribly disgusting) It is a favorite in our house! (The book also contains some great vocabulary, like "devour" and "rapscallion".)

Absolutely enchanting!
My children love this recording and take turns playing "Brer Rabbit" and "Brer Fox." I am personally enthralled by Danny Glover's masterful reading of this story. It is easy to imagine yourself around a fire alongside a slow moving river while you are listening.

A resounding well-done to everyone who put this one together!

an instant favorite
I remember when i was about 7 my mom brought me home this book , i flipped throught the pages and loved the zany, colorful illustrations, i read it over and over and listened to the tape every night when i went to bed until the tape wore out.even though i am older now, i am looking foreward to reading this book again and keeping it for when i may have kids of my own. I think that this is a great book for any little kid to have and listen to, or even big kids (me), the story takes you through a strange and hillarious world, that is acompanied by ammusing illustrations. it is a great book for kids to read and listen to that will be sure to make them laugh. Definitly not your everyday childrens story, but one that is sure to be a instant favorite.

An engaging and lyrical book! The illustrations are great.
I've been reading this book regularly to my baby since she was 6 months old. She loves the lyrical poems and the illustrations are bold and bright. It never fails to capture her attention. The author has done a beautiful job with rhymes and repitition and the illustrator was trully talented! This is a book you'll want to read over and over

Off-beat & Neat.
Drescher's zany colorful illustrations make this book come to life. The rhyming text is fun, too. A boy unleashes his dreams of having a fantastic nontraditional pet, but in the end he'll settle for one that is all his own. A great book for parents and kids who appreciate off-beat original illustration.

runaway opposites
My children love this book. Richard Wilbur and Henrik Drescher filled a gap missing in childrens books, reaching out to the artsy, far-out, a bit wacky child who need humor and a bit of strangeness to succeed in enjoying books and especially poetry. Great for rhyming words and increasing a young ones vocabulary in a not so normal way. Thank you!

Delightful!
When I was a wee one, this was one of my favourite books. Little Howard is delivered in a basket to loving but childless parents, who notice his unnaturally long nose. They try to ascertain the cause of his malformation, as he has trouble eating doughnuts and often runs into walls. He's fixated on a tree outside the house, and often tries to climb it. One day he gets too high and can't be reached and won't come down. As time passes his arms turn to wings, and his once unnatural nose turns to a beak that suits his new form much better. He flies south with the other birds, but always comes back to visit the parents who cared for him.
The illustrations are charming, the story sublime. I recommend this book for young children, aged up to 5 or 6.

inside an artist's head
i was not able to really follow the story, and that was a little frustrating, but i came away grateful that i had the opportunity to glance into the most personal depths of a man's mind.
drescher's images conjure up dark feelings, yet they are fascinating in their seeming honesty.
I recommend this book for people who enjoy personal looks at artists.
