Excellent
The authors map out clear, effective and proven strategies for rewarding parenting in this excellent well-written guide. An imaginative approach was called for when my 16 year old boy Jonathan threatened to barricade himself in his bedroom using just twigs, leaves, and his own spittle and dung, and this guide provided just that. There's nothing wrong with setting parameters, the authors say, just as long as that are not arbitrary or capricious and they are clearly articulated - and for crying out loud why should he be allowed to act like a nesting African Hornbill under my roof?

Great Advice for Raising a Capable Teen
My daughter is just becoming a teenager, and I am glad I purchased this book at this time. It has helped me to identify my enabling behaviors that maintain her dependence on me. I am now working to empower my daughter to become more independent in her decision making. This book is presented in a very logical format and the suggestions are easily implemented. I have never used punishment as a motivator with my daughter and now feel vindicated in that choice. I encourage parents of teens to get this book for a refreshingly alternative approach to interacting with our teens - treating them like the individuals that they are. Good luck!

The best book on teen discipline
I present workshops for parents and teachers of teenagers, in the Los Angeles area. I have researched many books, all of which have valuable information. What makes this book different, is the format. It is easy to look up a problem and find the resolution. Parents and teachers have found it invaluable.Dealing with teenagers can be a trying proposition. They are adults-in-training and need all the guidance and patience we can give them. With the help of this book, I have been successful with the workshop presentations.

You'll like it
As the disabilities host on Bellaonline, I recommend this book. This book covers Cerebral Palsy, and what it is like to have a child with cerebral palsy. It talks about the family dynamics, how to encourage your child to be independent, how to handle friends, and how to discuss the disability.

I'd recommend this book to both parents and educators.

An Excellent Resource for Newly Diagnosed "Families"
As a mom of a 16 month old with moderate CP, I found this book to be a great starting place. It will not overwhelm you with all the "bad stuff" but introduces you to what life may be like with a CP child.

It also discusses how having a special needs child will mesh within the family, including dealing with extended family, siblings and future siblings (this was the only book I read that discussed this issue), schooling, etc.

Anti-hype book
First off, I'd like to quibble with the publisher or the marketing person or whoever picked the subtitle for this book. The emphasis is wrong. The subtitle should be "Celebrating Death and Life" and not what the book shows.

A fine book about the response of the church to the tragic death of an obviously extraordinary young woman, BUT the author has given us more than a "You are there" guide. Vogel offers insights into the way of community and how community forms. She offers helpful ways for groups to celebrate marker events within the community. Her book should help most of us get beyond the hype of the funeral industry to look at the normal aspects of death and of our grief and of our GRATITUDE.

ABSOLUTE BEGINNER TO DRESSAGE GAINED GREATER KNOWLEDGE
I read this book in anticipation of my first dressage lesson, and have gained great insight into this beautiful form of communicating with your horse. I now understand how to get the horse to respond to those invisible cues and why they do. I believe this book is perfect for anyone wanting to effectively and humanely communicate with their horse!

The Best Training Book I've Ever Read
I recently purchased this book and I love it! I read over 100 pages the first day! Jane explains importance of the half-halt, balance, forwardness and softness and how to acheive it. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to truly understand dressage and why dressage training is so important -- no matter what discipline you ride.

We're regularly in the prize line-up since reading this book
I compete at a novice level in eventing, and ride in dressage and jumping events in the off-season - but never very succesfully. However, since reading this book, and trying to apply Ms Savoie's principles, my horse and I almost always find ourselves lining up to collect prizes. Although this book explains the basic principles of riding in a readable and simple style, Ms Savoie provides as comprehensive an introduction to the subject as I've seen anywhere. The illustrations are pertinent, and contribute significantly to understanding the text. Often, when I am struggling with a problem with my horse, I go back to this book for assistance - and invariably there is something that helps. I've recently bought Ms Savoie's sequel to this book, such is the confidence that I now have in her writing!

I recommend this as supplemental reading
I bought this book because of the title & based on a recommendation from a friend. The book arrived in the mail and I immediately flipped open to the page about children biting (as my one year old was beginning to do). There were several aspects to their advice and some of those I agreed with & that have been effective. There was a lot that I thought was ridiculous & on a path to having an out of control, undisciplined child though. I would recommend this book to someone as supplemental reading for the ideas that you can mold into your framework for "postive discipline".

Positive Discipline The First Three Years
This book is clear, realistic, and useful. I am a parent educator and I give it at every baby shower that I attend. Good stuff!!

Great Resource for Parents!
This book offers quick, easy, and realistic solutions to everyday issues. Disciplining children can be frustrating and challenging. Here is a book that offers "tricks of the trade" you can pull out of your hat. And best of all, you will feel good about the discipline options you choose if you follow these ideas. And here's a thought...give this at the next baby shower you attend!

A Timeless Love Story For All Hopeless Romantics
Set in England of the 1600's Jane Eyre's life story is told through her own perspective, aging throughout the novel. Her thoughts and feelings from early childhood through where she is in life writing the book are told with a grace that comes only from life experience. Jane Eyre is from the time of her earliest memories an orphan. In this book she finds love, acceptance, and herself. Charlotte Bronte's talent for bringing out all sides of a character is shown well in this book, she leaves nothing to be desired as far as rounding out her characters. Such characters as Mr. Rochester who first shows Jane true love, Mrs. Fairfax who helps her to understand her equality to others, and Adele Varens who helps her remember childlike wonder as she goes through her life changing experiences, all play a part in Jane coming into herself. This book is an inspiration and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good story.
Attention was drawn to the dramatic separation of the classes during the time the book was set it. Jane Eyre is an orphan, and therefore frowned upon by all as a dependent and a burden, almost no one expects her to do anything valuable with her life. This remearkable young woman pushed for the right to be sent to school, then ater her graduation stayed on as a teacher, after a mentor and only tie to the school left she advertised herself out as a governess. This was by no uncertain terms a grand achievement for someone born of such a position in the world. Although a governess was not the highest position during her time, she made due with the job and eventually found another window of opportunity. She fell in love with the master of the house and was asked for her hand in marriage. Certain events delay this already unseemly arrangement before true happiness is found.
Many readers and critics alike have compared this story very closely to Cinderella. The plots are similar, however, they are not quite the same. Jane Eyre, born an orphan, falls in love with her version of "Prince Charming," coming to her in the form of an employer. This idea of romance found in hte most unlikely of places with the most unattainable of people is a common thread through many modern works. This kind of fairy tale is appealing to a broad audience and almost any age. However, the level of reading that Jane Eyre is written for would suggest an age group of 12 through adults.
This novel left me both uplifted and very impressed with the style of writing that Chalotte Bronte has. The novel's use of separation in social classes to cause a stir and engage the reader's attention to the romance of Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester is brilliant. Most people would say that the book is a basic take off of the age old tale of Cinderella, but in all actuality it is a beautifully mastered knowledge of the romantic ideals of many young women. I would remcommend this book to the age group of 12 through adults, this novel is also geared mainly towards women, although it would be a wonderful read for those men in the world who have a taste for this genre. Over all the book was a success, a literary masterpiece that has forever more left it's mark on our society as a classic.

A true gothic romance.
A true classic, I found an old copy in my mothers house and devoured this book one hot summer. It has been made into several motion pictures, the most recent of which being in 1996 starring William Hurt.

The heroine of the novel, Jane Eyre, ends up in a strict boarding school after her parents die and her only living relative, and aunt, can no longer stand her 'wickedness'. She endures hardships at school, and the school mistress tries to dampen her passion and opinions.

Jane does not lose her spirit, she merely hides it behind her plain face and grows into a proper lady of her station. She graduates from school and takes on a position as a tutor for a young French girl, the ward of a Mr. Rochester. She is given a room in his large house the likes of which she has never seen in her former spartan existance. She falls in love with the little girl as well as Mr. Rochster.

Rochester is hiding a tragic secret however. One that he kept from Jane and everyone else for many years. The truth is finally exposed and Jane is heartbroken. This, however is not the end of our tale. Their love does not die, and the end of the novel is poignant and romantic. I guarantee it will have you in tears.

Charlotte's writing is beautiful, moving, and descriptive. She is unmatched as a mistress of character development.

I cheered and cried all at the same time...
To be honest, I haven't read many classics, but this is by far my favorite book ever. I was assigned to read it for school and am now completely obsessed. I have three different copies of the story, but my first copy was this cover.

What makes this book endurable and able to plow through for the first one-hundred-thirty pages and then keep reading for the next three-hundred-forty-one is the characterization. You love Jane, you hate Mr. Brocklehurst, and I don't know about anybody else, but I loved Mr. Rochester, Helen Burns, and Diana and hated St. John Rivers and Mrs. Reed. All characters stir feelings of either love or hate in you. This truly is the first, and the best, soap opera in the world!

I was told by some that they thought the ending lacked - ha ha! The ending couldn't have been better in my opinion. I, personally, didn't see it coming. When Jane was actually contemplating marrying St. John Rivers, I openly yelled "No! No! You can't marry him! You love Mr. Rochester whether he's married to a lunatic or not! Don't marry the moron! He's forcing you into it!"

This book evoked emotions from me I've never gotten before while reading a book. It evoked emotions I never even got watching a movie. Well, maybe it did, only they were excrutiatingly amplified. It was painful to read of Jane leaving Thornfield, even more painful to watch this self-respecting woman beg for food, and yet uplifting to read of her scorning St. John's idea of love and Mrs. Fairfax's label of "beggar."

All in all, whether you're assigned to read it or not, "Jane Eyre" is overly well worth its 461 pages.

Changing the way you think about management
This book is exceptional in its application of Dreikurs psychology. A lot of Dreikurs' beliefs have application in the classroom, and this modern application of his theories gives teachers real examples and guidance for changing the way they teach. Many of the popular discipline methods today are degrading and based on manipulating kids and using power over them. This book instead shows teachers how to develop a community within the classroom and teach students how to be responsible learners and real citizens. These are life skills- if students do not have them there is no way they can learn. Even students browbeaten into compliance through other methods will not learn as much as when teachers take the time to teach them these skills- save time now and don't waste it on discipline and power struggles throughout the year! The book is much easier to use than in the past, but the process still needs to be developed further. This edition is well on its way.

A Totally Positive Way to Begin the School Year
I was introduced to an earlier edition of this book two years ago, partially tried it with primary students, and had moderate success. When I was alerted to this edition, I was impressed by the well-defined almost cookbook style way that the program can be implemented. Most busy teachers need to be given srtaight-forward directions and this book fits that bill. Then there were several building blocks that were changed for the better from the 2nd edition. This book has revived my faith in the ability to create a classroom climate where students will work together to solve problems. I am really looking forward to implementing as much of this philosophy into my classroom as possible.

This book is great for anyone who works with kids!
As a student teacher, I was very afraid of entering a classroom in which many of the students had been refered to as psychotic animals. I frantically searched for any source I could find to help me learn how to deal with these studetns. My mentor teacher suggested that we read this book, and together we implemented the program as described in Positive Discipline in the Classroom, and I must admit that the animals have metamophisized into controllable students! This book has great ideas, explained in detail, and it really works. I have already reccomended this book to many other people in the teaching profession.

Not what I expected
I had truly been looking forward to this book. After hearing so much about Jane Nelson and being in recovery, it sounded appropriate.

Honestly, I didn't read past the first two or three chapters; the book seems to have been written for someone either still abusing alcohol or drugs - or someone who is just now in the beginning stages of recovery. . . and that's not where I am in my life.

I will definitely hold onto the book and hopefully can pass it on to someone who needs it.

Don't bother.
Lorraine, a fashion coordinator whose lawyer husband, David, is unfaithful, takes up with Jack. Jack is an incredibly lazy artist. He moves into her NYC apartment but hates it -- he'd rather have the apartment upstairs, which is just like Lorraine's was before an expensive and extensive renovation.

David moves in with his mistress, Cecilia. Cecilia goes back to her husband so David is out of a place to live. He can't go home because Jack is there so he has to look for another apartment.

Everyone wants something better and each thinks he or she has the worst. Jack-the-dog, however, is a dear creature whose story is told through canine eyes. DeLynn should throw out the entire manuscript except for the pages that tell the dog's tale.

This book is foul in language, shallow in perception and not worth your money.
