An interesting perspective on the origins of civilization
I'd suggest this book to anyone who is reading recent books on the origins of civilization. What I liked about it is that Diop was bringing a wealth of research that was otherwise inaccessible to me to the this issue--and I found that I could connect this history to that of Europe and Britain using other resources that I have. the issue I have with is is that some of the work struck me as oriented to handling one set of politically motivated forms of anthropology that he found objectionable-but he didn't consider the work of a lot of other major authors (i.e. the work of Lewis Spence on connections between North Africa and Ancient Britain). I thought Diops criticisms of Gimubutus were especially interesting.

A masterpiece of scholarship
Diop demonstrates his multidisciplinary genius in this book. His scientific approach leaves no stone unturned, even when dealing with linguistics. He addresses so many topics, from the origins of civilisation to political and social organisation in ancient states. I especially treasure the chapters on Africa's contribution to humanity in sciences and philosophy. A real eye-opener. Mostly French speaking authors are referenced and critiqued though. It's a shame there aren't more African scholars following Diop's lines of research.

Frank doesn't have a clue.
Diop's is an african scholar who deserves to be a part of every person of african descents library. I take offense to frank stallone's obvious byass and limited views. He is obviously not a person of african descent and is unable to grasp the full meaning of Diop's work. If you are not interested in truth and the upliftment of the african peoples then this book is not for you.

Ouch
This revisionism belies the facts of HISTORY. How can we go forth in History when we are too busy revising this false and grand "past"? So much to be proud of and we have these revisionists, who differ Not from those White racist revisionists and "Holocaust" revisionists, bullcrapping their way into our minds. To hear the revisionists, Black and African blood is in every Accomplishment (but, hmmm, never in the historical disasters). If so, it seems that the African/ Blacks have been solely responsible for the dire straits that Blacks and Africans find themselves in TODAY. We are so busy rewriting the past, crying "I am a VICTIM!" in the present, and telling everyone (Europeans, Euro-Americans, Asians, Asian-Americans, Semitic, etc., etc.,) they "OWE US" for the future. Is it any wonder why we Africans appear at the lower stratas EVERY where else in the world, including Latin America, Europe, Asia, and including our own CONTINENT of Africa!!! yes, in Kenya, Uganda, etc., it is non-Africans who comprise the top stratas of society, from education, social, economic, etc...

Listen to the TRUTH!
Look through the pictures in this book : Life in Ancient Egypt" by Adolf Erman, He has a picture of Scribes recording the
presence of " NEGRO" slaves in the book. This was a copy from one of the temple walls and clearly shows that Egyptians depicted Negroes and their features accurately !. I guess this upsets the Apple cart, but so what ? Negroes at that time were no different than they are now ; same hair, lips,etc...

This means that the hieroglyphs would have depicted the priests, scribes and pharos with Nappy hair and other negro features, which they do not.

Guess they will have to look for another Group to cook up an identity.

Even if you told the negro that he invented everything , it still would not change their own perceptions of themselves because deep down, they know it is just a lie. Why cant the Negro just be who they are ? There is no shame in that is there ?

Fear of a black planet.
Dr. Diop has carefully researched his thesis, and the evidence is compelling. But most interesting to me is the quite emotional reaction many have to the thesis itself. Few of western thought seem to be able to get past the title, much less read the research, which was methodically executed. Who could call herself scholarly and not at least entertain the idea?
