This is an excellent book. It is the very first book I have ever found that actually describes the scientific research on weight loss and gain. Other books about dieting simply promote the author's diet and carefully avoid discussing the biology of dieting. This book tells you what you really need to know.

A good book describing the opponents the fighting dogs faced and how they were expected to fight them. However there is little information on the breeds themselves. Excellent art work is displayed on nearly every page,and the information is reliable. I would recommend it to people interested in there dogs heritage as a fighter. I gave it 4 stars because I feel it could have been longer. Full of details it is a good book for any fighting dog owner. You'll get a complete understanding where your dog came from.

I am a freash Staff owner i Norway, and got a hole new respekt for this type of dog. How can you not when you read about all the awfull thigs man has done to this amimal, and still it loves us so much.The book also pays a tribut to the war dogs which to few of us know about.The book also tells the reason for animal fights and the social situation. Thank you for this great book!

"Ecosystems" is 500+ pages, and could easily be expanded to ten times that. This is the first book I found to discuss all major life-bearing periods from an ecological standpoint.

Minor nits: I wish at least a couple of periods had been treated in depth. The writing could be a bit crisper. And as a layman, I would have appreciated a glossary for some of the words that don't show up in my Webster's Unabridged.

Mr Mehl definitly knows what he is writing about. But having expected an intoduction for somebody who doesn't know anything about Shakespeare despite the common things, I was surprised when facing in-depth facts I simply was unable to understand. But after getting into the ideas of shakespeares plays, this book is highly recommendable because taking the reader further than many other texts about Shakespears main dramas do.
