My Favortie Story is Thomas' Snowsuit
My favorite story is Thomas' Snowsuit by Robert N. Munsch. It is about Thomas and his mother and his teacher fighting. My favorite part is when Thomas is wearing the teachers dress. I also like when Thomas gets the teacher and the principal back into their clothes. This book is funny. You can't live without it! By Katie

A Grand Treasury Indeed!
This book was recommended to me for my children by a 1st grade teacher. I was reluctant to purchase it at first because of the price and because I had never read a book by Munsch. However, I decided to get it and, wow, are my kids happy. The book features many children's stories - most with silly goings on that keep my 7 and 4 year old boys in stitches. Every night for the last two months they ask to have one of the stories re-read to them. The outcome is always the same - laughter. This is an excellent work because it brings out the joy of reading for the kids. Definitely worth the money!

Great bedtime story
We are trying to bring our daughter up multi-lingual and read her many French stories. This is her favorite bedtime story. She knows the end of almost all sentences. You will need a good knowledge of French to read this story. The illustrations are great and the book is easy to handle. The story is about Charlotte who buys a special birthday balloon for her baby sister, who loses the balloon. Charlotte ends up climbing a big ladder encountering different workmen and finally recuperates the balloon. We have many other Annick press books as my daughter's name is Annick and especially like the ones about Canada as we try to teach her as much as we can about her Motherland. Other favorites are Je t'aimerai toujour (Love you forever) and 40 degrees below zero, all Annick Press of course.

Wonderful Books
When I was in Canada a few years ago I bought a copy of "Murmel, Murmel, Murmel"--in fact I bought three copies! I had never heard of Munsch before, but this little book ("Murmel . . .") caught my eye because it is about a little girl who finds a baby who can only say "Murmel . . .", and the little girl tries to find someone to care for the baby. At the time, my granddaughter was in foster care and did not understand why she was not with her mother, but when we read this book (over and over again!), she finally had some understanding that maybe a mother can't care for her children, but someone else would love to! Great author, such understanding and compassion! Good illustrations. I'm glad they are finally available in the US.

Verde, Violeta Y Amarillo
This book is hillarious, and so far has not given my four year old son any ideas. I thought he might have a hard time following the story because it seemed better suited for older children especially since he's not a native speaker, but he loves it. This is a book with great teaching value if, like me, you want your child to know 2 languages.

Hillarious story of a determined little girl to go a mall.
Where is Gah-Ning? is a terrific story for all ages. My 6 year old has loved it for 2 years now,and her 15 month old sister likes it too, especially when read in different voices. Gah-Ning is like many little girls, determined to get to where she wants to go, whether or not her father says no! Additionally, the story takes place in Canada, and my daughter has looked up Kapukasing on a map, and is learning about Canada and its cultures. We look forward to reading more books by Robert Munsch. Melissa and David Rinn (along with Devon and Hanna) dmdhr@capital.net Queensbury, NY

Really more like 2 1/2 stars
I bought this book based on the reviews here, but I was fairly disappointed. The pictures and the layout leave much to be desired, and the text is not bad, but not great either. I could not hold my two-year-old's attention with this one, although he will sit still for most books. Frankly, I had purchased this book partially because of the photographs, but I think I would rather just show my son "A Child is Born" or "Your Amazing Newborn" and explain the text to him. There just wasn't as much information here as I had hoped for. This is certainly not a bad book, especially for slightly older children, but it is not a great book either.

Cute and informative
My nine year old son liked this book very much, even though this is geared for a slightly younger set. He did some of the experiments and read this numerous times (by choice). The short articles, fun facts and cute illustrations hold kid's attention well. It explains baby's behavior well and give them some idea of what to expect.

My favourite gift for expectant big brothers and sisters!
This is the book that I purchase for little people who are soon to become big brothers and sisters. They often get left out of the excitement, and this book is perfect for them... and their parents too! It is clear, with beautiful illustrations and just the right blend of factual information and kid-friendly language. It explains the important biological processes without insulting children's intelligence, as some children's books tend to do. Great representation of various racial groups also, and delightful illustrations. Don't miss this one!

love munsch - hate this book
It was such a shame to read this book after enjoying so many other Munsch books! The shameful lack of manners the little girl shows each time she demands new markers is only exacerbated by the fact that the mother obiently goes out and purchases them for her time and time again. My husband will not read this book to the children --- I have agreed to do so but I insert "pleases and may I's and thank you's" wherever needed (quite often!). The book IS funny, it does capture childhood creativity and vulnerability to temptation. It is just too bad that the little girl had to be such a BRAT and that the mother had to be such a WIMP! Certainly not the message we need to be sending our children.

Colorful and funny!
This story begins with young Brigid's desire to have markers like all of her friends. Her anxious mother frets that Brigid will color on walls, floors, and herself. Brigid's plea is victorious when she makes her point for water color markers.
"They wash off with just water...Get me some of those." She gets a box of 500 water color markers. Brigid soon grows bored and makes her case for getting markers that smell, and then finally a box of "super-indelible-never-come-off-till-you're-dead-and-maybe-even-later colouring markers." Then, bored with paper, she starts coloring her fingernails....Brigid is a colorful character who slips into coloring on herself, as many young children do. Adults may fret that this book may encourage children to draw on themselves, but this story is funny because of the unreal solution to the very real problem of children coloring on themselves. The children that I have read this to seem to get that this is the real point to this book. This book is for every child who has ever preferred markers to crayons or colored pencils, and then wandered away from their original purpose.

You can't go wrong with Robert Munsch books
... and this is no exception. My 4-year-old got burned out on "Where is Gah-ning?" (after a hundred readings or so) so I needed to find another book that could both enjoy as much. We're still going stong with this one. I love Munsch books as much as my daughter does - which makes them the best bedtime stories.

A Little Disappointed
I bought this book because my 2 1/2 year old son loves Caillou and we were in the midst of potty training. It seems my son was having more accidents after we read the book--many times. He was even quoting from the book--"Oops didn't make it on time" and "I don't have to use the potty!" I think the book is cute and I like the colorful illustrations, but it seemed to make my son think it was ok to regress. We put it away and he is back on track!

This book is great! Just what we needed
My son has been doing well with potty training, but has gone back & forth. One week I think he's almost done with training all together & then the next he's having lots of accidents again. I have found, at least for us that pull ups promote laziness. We have used pull ups only at night now for a couple of weeks. Elijah is 2 1/2, & it has made a big difference. However, it wasn't until I purchased Caillou's book that Elijah really got the hang of things! It was like magic-since Caillou has accidents, Elijah could identify with the book. Mind you we have the Bear in the big blue house potty video & My Big Boy Potty book starring Michael, both of which are big winners, but this book was the 1st to really drive it home about the accidents. Caillou makes of few, but learns to get there faster next time & be successful. Elijah also gets to the potty on time now! I'm thrilled & very impressed with Elijah & this book. The only reason I didn't give this book the highest rating is because I believe you need a combination of a video, cloth training pants (They need to be able to FEEL the wet) & this book.

Caillou, I have a suprise for you!
We have several potty books including the Bear in the Big Blue House one, Flush the Potty, Lift the Lid Use the Potty with stickers, Ruby's Potty and the classic Once Upon a Potty: Girl just to name a few. Although my daughter enjoys all of her potty books this is her all time favorite. She really identifies with Caillou and his potty trials and tribulations. The story starts with Caillou's mommy calling out to him that she has a suprise for him. It's a potty! Caillou doesn't know how to use it at first, he wears it as a hat. After a few accidents he masters the potty and makes his mommy and daddy proud. My daughter makes me read this book to her every day along with the book Caillou Takes a Bath. I swear I have both books memorized word for word. Although I am a little sick of reading them my daughter is less resistant to using the potty and taking a bath becauise of them. If my daughter hesistates to use the potty all I have to say is let's do it like Caillou and that is enough to motivate her. So where are we in terms of toliet training you might ask after all of these books not to mention countless videos, stickers, charts, and how to potty train books for mommy. Well my daughter will be three in August and she has been peeing in the potty for some time now. She will even get up by herself in the middle of the night and use the potty. She still refuses to makie a bowel movement in the potty though. I have to agree with Vicki Levines advice in a Girlfriend Guide to Toddlers. If you need a potty training laugh her passage relating to this topic is a hoot. She claims that your child will be toilet trained when they deem they are ready no matter how much you push and prod them otherwise. Until that happy potty trained day comes you can pass the time with your little one reading good potty books such as Caillou Potty Time.

Chocolate Cookies Are For Dessert
Anyone with a picky eater will enjoy this book. While it certainly didn't improve my son's picky eating habits, it brings a smile to his face each time we read it! However, I would have appreciated more encouragement for children to "eat your vegetables" and save the chocolate cookies for dessert.
