I feel the book was accurate; children can know the truth
Dear Sharon Denslow: I wish to thank you as the great granddaughter of Nathan Bernard Stubblefield (that's Bernard, not Beverly) I am most greatful that the truth is being told. Though you wrote the book mainly for children, the new breed of kids will at least have a chance to learn the truth of who truly invented the radio, as you know. Your father must have really admired my great grandfather, and I thank him too for teaching you. I hope you will personally read this message too, Ms. Denslow, for I am truly tickled pink. I am going to give some copies to the Stubblefield youngsters in my family. Thank you again.

Bye bye "hello Rainey"

Sincerly, Priscilla Stubblefield

Howl with the wolves
My 16 month old daughter loves to howl along with this book and act out the funny lyrics. It's fun to make up different tunes-- this book sounds different with every reader.

Potentially a really fun book.
My husband and I enjoyed this book - we were jointly reading it to our 2 1/2 year old. On first read, though, she didn't like it because she thought it was scary. I'm hoping that on the second read, when she knows what to expect, she'll see the humor. It was light-hearted and fun, with nice, bright illustrations. I am buying the casette through ... Book Club because I didn't know what tune to put with the songs. I had a hard time making up a tune that fit the words. Overall, I think that the book has great potential.

Fun and laughs!
Although when Little Wolf and Big Wolf hear something in the bushes, there is a moment of pause, and potentially fright, but my son (3 1/2) thought it was just right. He was curious, and definitely wanted to know who was in the bushes, but when he found out it was Momma Wolf he laughed harder than he does with almost any other book. When I first read this on my own, I didn't think it was that impressive, but when I read it out loud to my son, I realized just how much fun this is for kids. I watched him laugh playfully at the songs, and get quiet when SOMETHING WAS IN THE BUSHES. He laughs each time we read this, which is worth every penny of the book!

Teachers have lives outside of class in this book
Miss Pace thinks she's done with school, at least for the summer. She heads out West to Miss Penelope Bartlett's Ranch. What she doesn't know is that second grade twins Phil and Bill have followed their teacher. They try to hook her up with a man, Last Bob, and make her ride Last Bob's one-eyed horse, Handshaker. Eight year olds might be able to read the book themselves, and kids don't even have to be that old to understand the plot. This book is entertaining. It teaches no lessons, but it's entertainment value stands alone. This book could easily appeal to a boy or a girl. The boys will enjoy the adventure, like the one-eyed horse stories, and the girls will like the romance between Miss Pace and Last Bob. This book would be really cute to read at the end of the school year. It shows that teachers often have a life outside of the classroom, and since all the action takes place over summer vacation, it would be good lead-in to the end of the year. The book isn't heavy, but very light-hearted and could be a fun read for many kids.
