Great for Students
This textbook is awesome for serious students who would really like to graspe latin better. It contains the answer key to all the exercises as well as tips for teachers on presenting the material. If you own the student edition, consider the teacher's guide to help you along your way!

A teacher's teacher!
As a Latin tutor with over three years experience with teaching this language, and several years of learning it, this text was a surprise. Not only did it offer me better ways to use the Cambridge readers with my pupils, it also provided me with new information that I found interesting for myself. This manual combines grammar with the easy learning tool of an ongoing storyline, as well as providing application skills and ideas, with some baitable history as well. It helps me not only teach my students better but keep them wanting to learn. Anyone looking forward to teaching, or even learning, this language, should most certainly have this book close at hand.

Clear, Exquisite French Cooking Display
From the cover one is in for a treat, both to the eye and palate. The photography in this cookbook is simply gorgeous. How can one take a shot of a man holding a rooster in front of a bin of corn and make it look like a million dollars? It's here.

The recipes are the best of the tradition which the French are world famous for. Here are stressed the best in ingredients, cooked lovingly with patience and care and technique to bring out their succulence from French Regions.

Feast on such as "Cod and Vegetables with Garlic Mayonnaise" "Stuffed Breast of Veal" "Lyon Style Onion Soup" "Veal Stew" "Pears in Beaujolais."

Truly Bon Appetit.

Bocuses' Regional French Cooking
Bravo Monsieur Bocuse. Finally, an authentic French Cuisine Book. The recipes are simple and truly traditional. The ingredients are available at your corner grocery store and THAT is a refreshing change. The only French Cookbook you will ever need.

Not Bad, With Some Good Information
I found this book very useful for teaching reading in my small groups. The authors give some good ideas for classroom teachers to use "authentic literature" in order to teach reading comprehension which can include newspapers and magazines. The appendices are worth the price of the book. The only reason I downgraded it a bit is the authors could have done away with some of the whole language rhetoric about traditional basals and basic skills being "boring." This is nonsensical and detracts somewhat from the general usefulness of the book.

Great support for literacy instruction!
This is the best book I have yet read on teaching reading to middle and upper grades. If you are new to balanced literacy, this is a must-have! Even experienced teachers will find it to be a useful resource book. It is filled with strategies that will help you go from whole-class novel studies or basals into smaller, guided reading groups. This book goes beyond Mosaic of Thought to give wonderfully explicit details on strategies you can use in your classroom. I heartily recommend it to middle and upper grade teachers.

"Yes, this one is worth the time!"
Elemenatary teachers: READ THIS BOOK! I know, I know! ANOTHER book about teaching strategies! Haven't we (as teachers) read enough? The answer is no if you want to improve/create your reading program! I have taught 6th grade for 7 years and I was always unhappy with my reading programs. To add to my frustration, I began to support new teachers in the BTSA program who desperatly needed my help in creating an effective reading program for their classroom. Fortunately, my school decided to reorganize our instruction to focus on Guided Reading. That is when I found this book! Strategies that work is not just another list of strategies that need to be taught. It SHOWS you how to plan and implement lessons that will engage children and teach reading comprehension strategies. My favorite chapter was 8 beacuse it specifically dealt with inferring and this is an important piece for 6th graders in reading and writing. Don't worry - it's an easy read that IS worth your time. Don't let the title lull you into thinking it is just another "teacher text". Side Bar: Try to read it with another teacher, the discussions you will have will be invaluable!!!

Best beginner text offered at the local book store
I took a look through the 20 or so Latin books and dictionaries at my locals B&N book store. This one seems by far the strongest candidate for self-study (my intended use) - combining
a fairly attractive visual presentation with some interesting and easy-to-digest history/background information. Actually this is the only book I saw that I would consider buying. [I am thinking of learning a little Latin with my son, for fun and general education.]

An easy Latin lesson...
I used these books in high school a few years back. Now I've picked them up to learn Latin on my own. Unfortunately I need a second language for my Masters, and my college didn't offer Latin.

The first book jumps you right into the lessons. Most books I've found, force grammer and pronounciation through the first few chapters.

People put down Latin and are afraid to learn it, saying it is hard. Considering the romantic languages and much of English come from Latin, it's a lot easier than people think. Just use common sense and you can learn to pick out words. I gave a few passages to my Latin-free husband and he got the idea of some of the sentences. It took a bit of figuring, but anyone should be able to do it.

The only negative, is using this book alone. It helps to have someone to ask questions of. At least when you get into the conjegating of verbs and their declensions. If you can find someone to ask a few questions of, then you're all set.

The Superior Latin Course
If you are just starting ut in Latin, and you want to learn the language with and exciting storyline, useful grammar tips, and cultural information at the end of each 'Stage' or chapter, then you would like to buy this superior textbook. In a set of four, the first book contains twelve stages.

A fun read
Shy Lizzie (called Lizard by the class bully) has trouble adjusting to her new school. The popular kids like her, but she doesn't especially like them. She is terrified of Ivana with her wild hair and outspoken ways, but after the two of them become journal buddies she starts to like her. Now she has a problem. If she hangs out with the class outcast, will the other kids still like her? This book is both funny and touching. My only quibble is that I wish the illustrator had included a picture of Lizzie's bad hair day.
