THEE book to start at for newcomers into real estate
I am a real estate investor for 10 years now. Have amassed a personal library of well over $10,000 of tapes and books on the subject. And personally involved in 40 real estate transactions in the yr 2000. With that said, this is the book to read.

My first year of marriage had my non-real estate wife read that book. In exchanged, I was forced to endure, Man are from Mars and Woman are for Venus. I wanted for her to understand financial philosophies.

This is a timeless book of philosophy. For you newcomers in real estate here's a precious idea... Look at 100 homes in a neighborhood. Talk to the realtor and the mortgage broker and analyse the deal. Guess what, at the end of those 100 homes you are the expert! Now every house you see in that area, MAKE AN OFFER! No more excuses after that.

Okay, I know you still have the no money excuse. Blah, just "noise" in your head.

Read this book if interested in real estate investing. Don't if you aren't. It's a fun read with cartoon character of workers going to work with carrots on their head. Dont worry that its written in 1980? It is timeless.

You Can Do It Too
We used Mr Greene's book and began our own home rental business. In less than 2 years, with no prior realestate knowledge or experience we have acquired 8 homes, 2 duplexes, an apartment complex (hardly tycoon speed!) AND generated a large positive cash flow. We have also been able to take advantage of his tax strategies, and received unbelievable returns. Thanks to Mr Greene, our business is expanding rapidly, and my husband will soon be retiring from his job, never to work for someone else again. We see a very lucrative future ahead. The tax laws in this country were set up in a time when most everyone owned their own businesses. To take advantage of tax benefits, you must have some kind of business. Use his insight to see what YOU can do to take advantage of the benefits that were created for us all.

Underground Classic on Real Estate Investing
It really is possible to purchase real estate profitably with little or no money down, or even cash back. While some information is outdated, Greene provides a comprehensive, easy to read and funny introduction to the subject. The step by step plans work; more important, he shows you the principles of building a bank relationship, finding suitable properties, and negotiation. However, one should research the subject thoroughly, including talking to experienced and creative no-money-down investors in one's area, and looking at many properties,as Greene recommends. Greene also shares some of his Libertarian Philosophy, showing how average people can make money, while warning against some of the nuttier government regulations

Barnyard Song
The book Barnyard Song is a great book to read as an adult and to read to my three year son. I love the way the book flows. The animals in this book develop the barnyard flu that they catch from a fly. Then the doctor and his nurse come buy and give check out the barnyard animals and give them farmer some medicine. During the time of the flu the barnyard song just doesn't sound right. Once the animals get the medicine and they all get themselves to feeling better---then the barnyard song starts sounding great. THis is a great book to read to a group of children! My child carries the book around and loves to look at the pictures also!

I love reading this book to my grandchildren, it flows.
Barnyard Song is a great book for reading out loud. My grandchildren always pick this book as the one to read first. You get into the rhythm of it and the words just flow. It's fun.

A wonderful social work treasure
An impressive, professionally prepared practice guide was born in 2002 for social workers. Professors Roberts and Greene include 146 topics that are relevant to social work practice in this desk reference. This exciting guide, that is divided into sixteen parts, not only provides the essential components for social work practice, but also presents the most informative discussions about how to enhance knowledge, skills and values for use in social work education. This book is also an encyclopedia for social work practitioners. It provides a clear picture of how skills are applied in different situations with contents and describes the use of case studies that are devoted to vulnerable populations, as well as to children and families with special needs. It addresses the technological, ethical and cultural issues of skill applications in direct practice and research. It also analyzes past issues, current state of practice principles, and future of social work development. Its comprehensiveness makes this guide book a social work treasure.

a beautiful volume on one of this country's finest painters
John Biggers came to artistic maturity in an academic setting far from the art centers of New York. He was repulsed by the New York art scene that had so summarily dismissed black art when he had participated in a MOMA black student art exhibit. Perhaps his avoidance of the centers of art commerce were as responsible for the late acceptance of his genius as was the segregationist mindset in the United States during Biggers's early career. As well as producing important paintings, drawings, and sculpture, Biggers is one of this country's most important muralists, creating more than twenty major murals in fifty years. His life has been dramatic in both content and context. Wardlaw draws a clear portrait of African-American life in the black section of a sharply segregated Gastonia, North Carolina, where Biggers grew up in the 1930s, and the rich family and community life of rural black America of the time. The other essays, written by noted scholars, trace the history of Biggers's artistic career through a careful study and analysis of his body of work.

Blurb from Richard Hell
"It cannot be said too often and it's never said enough that the mass news-media have low-to-no standards of accuracy, whether in relatively minor or peripheral areas of their reporting where their interests may not be obviously at stake (except in that it's in their interest not to go to the expense of bothering to check facts, and to conceal this) or in the larger matters where their prejudices are more apparent. And, as the media leaders know, since almost all news becomes "old" the moment it's broadcast, most victims of their misrepresentations are at a disadvantage not only because of a power mismatch, but because a protester looks like a fool to be challenging yesterday's papers. But the consequences of the media's irresponsibility and maliciousness are real to their victims. Guy Debord finally had to react. A rare and nice touch is where he mentions that he actually has no higher opinion of the consumers of the media than he does of the disseminators of it. Heh heh.

The tract is full of these sudden sharp insights into Debord. It's great as well for its evocation of the whole intense time and place (Paris art/life radicalism, 1957-84)."

this one is for very serious selective-college applicants
As a high school student applying to very selective colleges, I have read through every "how to get into college" that I could get my hands on. This one is simply the most comprehensive and the best. Many of these types of books talk down to the reader, trying to sweeten the application process. This one does not over-simplify. It gave me a really good sense of the "big picture"--how what you do in high school affects your admissions chances at the big-name schools. I only wish I had read it when I was in ninth grade!

Profound Ethical Questions Raised
This book chronicles "Abscam" and its repercussions. Abscam was a FBI sting operation in which Abdul, a fictitious, wealthy Arab sheik sought to achieve several things: asylum in the U.S., investment opportunities in the U.S. and help in getting his own money out of his own country.

FBI agents posing as associates of Abdul approached politicians for "help" in achieving Abdul's goals. What follows is a tale of deceit, corruption and lies as politicians responded positively to Abdul's offers of big money. The FBI's sting operation brought out many crooks and resulted in bribery and conspiracy charges. However, Abscam also raised many questions as to the FBI's entrapment tactics, even resulting in one conviction being overturned.

While shocking and disturbing, the story is nevertheless at times amusing. The end result is a comprehensive review of one of the biggest scandal's in U.S. history.

strong anthology reprinting legendary 1970s-1980s tales
CONAN THE SWORDSMAN, the latest reprint of the now legendary 1970s-1980s Conan revival, is a marvelous short story collection. Each story holds its own with the overall Conan mythos and most add depth to the celebrated character and his world. The delightful eight stories are well written with each tale co-authored by L. Sprague de Camp (had to be a Howard clone) with either Lin Carter or Bjorn Nyberg. Especially good is "Legions of the Dead" that Robert E. Howard would have believed he authored because it reads so much like his original works. Equally fascinating to readers is a seven-page essay that provides plenty of insight into Conan and his world as well as Robert E. Howard from the late L. Sprague de Camp's perspective. Fans of Conan will want to read this wonderful anthology that showcases one of fantasy's most endearing and enduring protagonists.

The best primary care orthopedic text on the market
Straightforward, to-the-point, very relevant for the busy outpatient clinic. My other orthopedic texts are collecting dust. Worth every penny. The only criticism I have of the text is their scanty, incomplete coverage of osteoporosis. This section is too cursory and out-of-date. It barely addresses densiometry and doesn't mention newer therapies such as alendronate in the treatment of osteoporosis. The emergence of alendronate predates the publication of this volume by at least 2 years so advancing medical science is not an excuse. My suggestion for future additions is to eliminate the osteoporosis section and leave it to an internal medicine text and include more fracture management in its place--even the management of osteoporotic fractures. Any section in this book should be able to stand alone in terms of being able to render appropriate evaluation and treatment guidelines without having to consult additional texts. The chapter on osteoporosis fails in this regard.

Excellent text for primary care
After dismissing many books over the years as unsuitable for primary care for various reasons, my orthopedic colleagues at Group Health asked me to review this text as the one book which they have found which provides a comprehensive, well illustrated, clinically appropriate source for primary care. I was not disappointed. I found a useful book which provided the information I needed to know about the common musculoskeletal presentations in primay care, and sufficient information and caution about the less common ones. I was particularly impressed by the pediatric section, but as I used the index to look up the common diagnoses, I found that the information the book provided was appropriate for a wide range of conditions. The photographs and illustrations are consistent and readable. The information about primary care office management and the details of exam, splinting, exercise, and injection techniques is thorough This book provides a good textbook review of the subject and a useful, ready reference for the office bookshelf. I would therefore recommend it for primary care.

Military Doc's must have it
As a Flight Surgeon in the Army, I have traveled with this text from Korea to Bosnia. It is a must have for anyone in Primary care and especially military physicians on deployments, where Orthopedic surgeons are hard to come by. It is a clear, consice treatment based book. Which guides you through the physical examination, diagnosis and managment of common orthopedic problems. In particular it lets you know what the red flags are for further evaluation and consultation. Truly Magnificent!
