Feel good book
I was so proud to have a part in this book, I read the first one last year and little did I know I would have a story in the next book. The first one was wonderful, all the stories were about real people and appealed to my sense of morality. the last one I feel was just as good, and perhaps even better with such inspirational stories, I could have read another thirty of them easily. Thank you all you Heartwarmers Gems for making such a wonderful book and thank you, all you wonderful people who allowed me to be a small part of this one, it was such fun and I hope to do it again.

Great way to spend your time.
This little book is a great way to spend your time in a world where there are so many things that are not. I carry it in the car so when I have to go in to a business where I know I will have to wait, I can take it along. The positive thoughts and quiet acts of God's eyes, hands and feet in the world will warm your heart.

WOW! Two times in a row
Gee, I wish I knew why stories about "kindness" and "love" always touch me way down deep. "Heartwarmers of love" will take you on a journey of "feel-goods" and "smiles". What a wonderful way to spend and evening.Author, Roger Dean Kiser, "Orphan, A true story of Abandonment, Abuse and Redemption."

Me encantan los libros de arte discográfico de Roger Dean
Me gustaría saber dónde puedo conseguir libros del autor, tales como "The Flights of Icarus" o "Views". Gracias, y espero que se reimpriman pronto. Un saludo

Great to view great to learn
This book is a must. If you only like music or if you love the covers more than the music inside or if you are learning to design covers...Well, this book has it all. The covers are show by elements in commom, so you can judge by yourself about the criativity of the designers. Roger Deam is a famous artist well know by his covers and stages for the rock group Yes. But this does not interfere with the overall result. The guys did a fantastic job compiling all the covers in this book. There are rock covers, jazz covers, latim, dance, disco, and so on. All possible covers are there. Don't hesitate. Buy it now!

The Best Fantasy Art Book in the World
This is an amazing book. Everyone I know who have it thinks so. The book is full with colourfull paintings of fantastic places, caracters, heros, dragons, animals, settings, planets, continents, miths, episodes, and the like. For enyone who likes colours and heroic images. Fantasy at its best: Fantasy as Fantasy. Many painters have contributed their best works to this volume. I have looked to find a copy of this book for more then ten years, and could not find one. It is a book from the 70's, and is out-of-print by now. But still it influenced me to paint the walls in my appartment in deep-blue. The book title that mentions "Icarus", the mithical hero who tried to fly to the sun and burned his artifitial wings when he approached it, reveals the philosophical framework that gives the book its artistic unity as a hole. The questions are not possed as simple propositions or statements, but rather in picturesque language that springs right out of our archytipal unconsiousness. It's content is more about dreaming than about reality, and still, it posses questions about our cosmogonies, astronomies, science, technology, culture, gender, humanity, power, evolutional history and psychy. "[Fantasy] art is a lie that tell the truth" (Picasso). Art is at its best when it posses important questions, and find the technical tools to deal with them. This book certainly satisfies these two requirements.

Excellent read but a few minor quibbles...
In the style of A Child Called It (the bestseller by Dave Peltzer), Orphan is told from the viewpoint of a child who endured nearly unspeakable horrors in a Florida orphanage and somehow emerged, spirit intact, to not only survive but tell his story with unflinchable honesty. The book is divided into three sections: Before, During and After, with the majority of the book (the During section) devoted to memories of the orphanage. With no one to love him and with repeated beatings, abuse and pain to love forward to, I find it miraculous that the author, Roger Dean Kiser, Sr, actually managed to make a life for himself after enduring the indignities of orphanage life. His memoir reveals in vivid detail how orphans were seen as societal rejects and throwaways and treated as objects, not people. While he was often beaten severely till he passed out, Kiser emphasizes that "it is not the physical pain that endangers orphans the most. It is the mental pain caused by stress from years and years of being neglected, pushed aside, disregarded, unloved and made to feel undeserving..." While I'd recommend this book as an eye-opening, even inspiring, read, I do wish there had been more detail in the After section of this book, the part that dealt with Kiser's life after he left the orphanage. This section seems rushed and abbreviated and there is little explanation of the life he made for himself as an adult - or how he got the courage to rise above his painful past to do so. He notes in the book's introduction that he has a wife, son and daughter-in-law and yet he doesn't note how he met his wife, how she felt about his past and if it affected his present life. After learning so much about his early life in the orphanage, I was left with plenty of unanswered questions like: How does a person who suffers so many blows to his self-esteen find the confidence to make a new life? Did he/does he suffer from painful flashbacks or memories today? Would he describe himself as happy or at peace now?

GUT-WRENCHING...UNFORGETTABLE
I have read "They Cage the Animals at Night," and all of David Pelzer's books, including "A Child Called It." Hearing about, "Orphan," I tried every major book store from Eastern Canada to Ontario and could not find the book. Finally, some time ago, a client lent me a copy but I am still not certain why the book does not see to be available in Canada.

Roger's story, like others of childhood abuse, is horrific, gut-wrenching and not an easy read. As a counsellor and adult survivor of child abuse (although certainly not to the extent of these cases) I have listened to hundreds of stories from the adult survivors I have counselled over the years.

"Orphan" definitely ranks near the top of the list of the most extreme and worst cases documented. While the physical wounds heal, the emotional scars last a lifetime. One can learn to face, accept, forgive and live with the past, but the pain forever lurks beneath the surface. It is not always present, it no longer plays havoc with our lives if we choose not to let it, but it takes only a simple, innocent reminder, i.e., a particular scent, colour, personal characteristic in someone, or a childhood memory to momentarily bring back the pain as if it happened only yesterday. Those survivors who have learned to live with these feelings, have found the tremendous courage it takes to heal, and the strength and wisdom to go on to live productive and, yes, happy, fulfilling lives despite all odds.

The story of Roger Dean Kiser is one such story. You will feel his pain, weep for his lost childhood and say a silent prayer that he not only survived but was given a second chance at life and happiness. I am sure adult survivors everywhere would say, "Thank you, Roger, for telling your story. May eternal peace and happiness follow you in whatever you do, wherever you go." For all it's shocking horror and attrocities, the author's courage and honest writing style make this book deserving of not five stars... but all the stars in the universe.

This book is a MUST Read!
This book should be REQUIRED reading for anyone that comes into contact with children on a regular basis. Every childcare worker, educator, orphanage staff member, child psychologist, pediatric doctor/nurse, daycare worker, religious leader and parent should read this book before raising or working with America's most precious commodity -- our children. With his "child's eye view" Roger is able to convey the pain and heartache that too many children have suffered at the hands of those who are supposed to care for them. Child abuse in our society must stop if we are to put America back on track and this book should be the first step. "Orphan" will put into words some of your most horrifying nightmares when you think of yourself as a child or even your own children, lying peacefully and safely in their warm, cozy beds. Roger has a message that the public must see up-close -- close enough for them to begin squirming...and then do something about what is, unfortunately, a gripping and terrifying reality for many of our children. Definitely five stars...definitely a keeper.

I bought several more. It's wonderful!
The book is perfect (in content and size!) When I joined Heartwarmers.com some months ago, I figured, why not, it's free, what do I have to lose? Well, it has actually changed my life. Now I wake up and look forward to my days, rather than getting hit with the usual negative news. When I heard Heartwarmers.com was coming out with a book, I was so happy. Now I could share these wonderful stories with friends who were not on the Internet. When I got the book, I was thrilled and got several more. Oh, this would make a great Mother's Day gift too! (My mom already has hers, I couldn't wait.) I hope they come out with more books soon. I want to start a collection. Brenda

I Cross My Heart You'll Love the Heartwarmers Book
Every morning I look forward to reading the Heartwarmers stories brought to me online, so naturally I was delighted to receive a book which contained these same stories. I read the entire book in less than two days. The delightful stories are filled with messages of self-reflection, hope and inspiration. The stories are short so it doesn't take any more than a minute or two to add some "warmth" to your heart each day. The stories are simple, humorous, very personal and poignant. I like to share these stories with my daughter because I really believe they can be a helpful tool in living life to the fullest and finding meaning in all aspects of life. I can't wait for the next Heartwarmers book to be published!

Just the average guy
I have 4 stories in the heartwarmer book. Stories which I donated to them for free because I believe what this book stands for and how it makes people feel after they read it's contents. I'm just a plain old guy who's wife yells out "You wearing that shirt again today?" But I am also a guy who will only read a book which will add something special to my life or to the lives of my friends or my family. Heartwarmers is one of those books and that is why I gladly donated the four stories, in hopes of making the world a much better place for everyone.Roger Dean Kiser, Sr.

More From Roger and Martyn; Needs a Reprint!
The Dean brothers are 2 of the most innovative artists of the 20th century. Roger has designed many of Yes and Asia's album covers (Drama, Yesshows, Asia, and Alpha are all featured in this book!), designed tour posters and booklets for other major rock bands and contributed on the Album Cover Album books. His brother Martyn has designed many of Yes' stage sets (Topographic Oceans, Drama, and Relayer) and has acted as Yes' photographer both for album shots and on tour. Together and seperately, Roger and Martyn have also worked on animation, video games, architecture, and an invention of Martyn's which is called a retreat pod (sort of like a futuristic sleeping bag with the options of an entertainment center!). I'd like to see this gem back in print and see a 3rd volume where Roger and Martyn have left off since this was published.

See into the eye of the magnetic storm....
Creating a sucessor to VIEWS is a hard enough concept, but Roger Dean has produced another master document of his work. Following along the same path as his first book, again we get the album size/shape presentation and tons of full color reproductins of Dean's sketches and renderings. This book was the first whereby I truly grasped Dean's illustrations as architechtural renderings, as lots of the projects covered in this volume are 3D projects worked on with his brother Martyn: built YES stages, modelling retreat pods and designing home and buildings. Imagine a YES album cover as a dwelling, and grab this book to show you how and why it is possible. Stunning follow-up, fantastic production values not seen often in modern paperbacks.

Pure Genius
A blend of many different art forms, they combine architecture, fantasy art, music. How can two men be able to design for all areas of life. Read this book to find out. I have owned a copy for fifteen years and still find something new each time.

"Yes" sleeve artist's first publication.
The architypal album cover artist of the early seventies period, Roger Dean produced covers for seventies album artists such as Yes, Gentle Giant, Greenslade and even Osibisa. This, his first of a number of publications, contains his early and best work. For fans of the progressive rock group "Yes" it also contains a number of photographs from their ambitious "Tales from Topographic Oceans " tour. This book should be reprinted NOW and is a must for all ardent "Yes " fans.

Sensational Views from Roger Dean
Groundbreaking when it was first published, this unique book has remained a benchmark in both art and publishing. Dean founded his own Paper Tiger imprint to release this collection of his designs. The book is sized the same as an old vinyl album, and contains dozens of his architectural/fantasy world renderings, know best as the covers of the majority of the YES albums, along with many other rock projects. Essential for the fans of Dean, it covers his schooling, 2D and 3D design projects, and an amazing array of full color, high quality reproductions of his ink and watercolor paintings.

Breathtaking Artwork (In Need of a Reprint)
Roger Dean's artwork has been featured on the record and CD coversof Yes, Aisa, and Pink Floyd. He has displayed his artistic talent since Yes' "Fragile" LP in 1972. His work belongs in a museum display (I did see a print of the Fragile cover in the Hayden Planetarium) and this book (if you're lucky enough to get your hands on it) is recommended to avid Yes fans! It features the covers of "Topographic Oceans", "Beginnings", "Relayer", "Yessongs", and the inner gatefold of "Close to the Edge". Simply breathtaking! And in need of a reprint soon!

Will Work for Peace is a triumph of poetic Davids.
As one of the poets featured in Will Work for Peace, one might expect me to be a bit biased, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Most poets work in a virtual vacuum, only tenuously connected to each other by the occasional workshop or shared membership in a 'poetry society'. When Brett Axel first approached me for a submission to an anthology he was considering, the names Marge Piercy, Lyn Lifshin, Moshe Bennaroch and so many others were abstractions to me as a fledgling poet. I knew these tremendous writers were 'out there' somewhere, beating down doors with their words and keeping a struggling artform alive. But to think that someday I would ever share a credit with these dynamic modern poets would be a pipe dream at best. It is through the sincere efforts of Brett Axel that many newer voices like mine have an extraordinary opportunity to appear with Pulitzer Prize winners and other poetic heavyweights. By way of an honest review, however, I will say this- not everything in this book will be to your particular liking. I myself came across some works that did not move me in the way the author may have intended. Some imagery can be raw and visceral, using shock value in place of craft at times. But to ignore those voices would be an even more shocking turn of events, so praise be to the editor for not sacrificing his vision to a senseless conformity. As Pete Seeger so aptly put it in his quote, trying to read all these poems at one time would be like trying 'to swallow Manhattan whole'. I say to you- buy this book, read this book, but understand that it's what you do after reading this book that will ultimately define who you could be. Poetry is alive and well, and lives in the blunt pages of Will Work for Peace.

Thumbs Up
Just amazing start to finish! I like the disregard for fame used in putting the book together. That great poems got in even if they were writtenby nobodys. Look at Roger Bonair-Agard's poem on page 74. Shortly after Will Work For Peace came out he won Slam Nationals, becoming Slam Champion of 1999, which will be getting him lots of offers. But Zeropanik Press didn't need to be told he was good by an award. They could tell by his writing! Good for them and good for all of us because Will Work For Peace is a literary milestone. It's a new standard for all future anthology editors to try to live up to. Thumbs up to Brett Axel and Thumbs up to Zeropanik Press for their guts and integrty.

You have to read this book!
Brett Axel visited my Church and I bought a copy of Will Work For Peace from him, not for poetry, but because I care about working for peace. I started reading through it thinking It'd just go on my shelf and that'd be the end of it, but the book grabbed me and kept me rivited. If I had known that poetry was this alive I'd have been into poetry. I've been reading some of the poems to my friends who also didn't think poetry was important and they are saying the same thing. Fantastic! There's no way to get through this book without having your old mindsets challenged. It's funny, powerful, sad, and uplifting. A book that deserves to be read by everyone. A book that really can make the world a better place!
