Diagrams to please
This book is very informative. It touches upon all aspects of survival in the woods. Starting with basics of shelter and the finer details including furniture and tools.

There are many diagrams with patterns and measurements to follow which are easy to duplicate. The techniques in this book would be excellent in teaching a survival class to youth or adults.

There are also many nature craft ideas coming from the Native American background. These ideas would do well in a cultural art class.

I have had the chance to see this book in a previous print which was very old. The newer version is quite like the old one and proves to be just as good.

Wildwood Wisdom
This is the first book I took out of a library c.1952. It is still pivitol in the way I think and do things. Jaeger is most entertaining and inspiring. His illustrations are magic. This is the ultimate book on making things for the right reasons.

The best howto book for outdoorsman ever made
I think this book is a must have for anyone interested in the great out doors. For people who enjoy minimalist camping, this book has great ideas. The illustrations and directions for making stuff are easy to follow.

Excellent Primer on Hedge Funds and the Industry
This book delivered what I was looking for and more. I needed an introduction to hedge funds and the industry and the book does an excellent job of providing this information in complete and concise detail. In addition, the book also gives a good overview of portfolio theory and how it relates to actual practice. There is also a section that describes the prevalent hedge fund strategies with historical performances. I highly recommend this book to those interested in starting their own fund or wishing to work in the industry.

Best book I've read on hedge funds
"All About Hedge Funds" is lucid enough for beginners, sophisticated enough for those in the know, and written with a clarity and intelligence rare in the world of money books. Jaeger avoids hype while providing plenty of insight into this often misunderstood investment tool.

Great Overview of Traditional Reasons Why Hedge Funds Exist
I very much enjoyed the overview of hedge fund hedging strategies, and gave the book five stars. This only covered traditional products, however. Buy "Credit Derivatives" by Tavakoli for more on other leverage strategies used by hedge funds. It covers total return swaps and credit derivatives as off-balance sheet transactions used by hedge funds. These are not covered in this book.

It was a very informative piece of litature.
I loved this book it illistated the way I always viewed Greek Myths

Unique Among Books of This Kind
First of all this book is not afraid to tell a story. It's long in a good way. There are 445 pages on the stories of the Trojan War alone - what happened before, during and after what was told by Homer. The entire world of Greek mythology is brought together and made memorable; much more so than after reading a book that gives you the usual run-of-the-mill rundown. The famous names come alive, and their stories are told in a way that they're connected in time. The style of writing is simple but not too simple to bring out the poetry and gesture and good vs. good realm above simply black vs. white dillemas that make Greek Myth the religious art that it is. Also this book is worth having just to accompany your favorite translations of Homer.

Paideia : the ideals of Greek culture

Lights up the western world
The book shows how the greek people were the first to concentrate their attention on the perfection of MAN and his place in society. Jaeger traces this fact from Homeric times through Plato and explains it through many outstanding writers such as Hesiod, Solon, Sophocles, and many more. He shows the powerful Ideals of the greeks in all their beauty which continue to live on in the world today. He reveals how Poetry, Philosophy, Rhetoric, Politics, Medicine, etc. have their basis in the quest to reach the highest standard imaginable for man and society. The space contributed to Plato is subtantial and the first volume is really only an intro to Plato by the authors own admission. That's a four hundred page intro! But it all leads to the greatest of inventions...Philosphy. I enjoyed the whole book, but the second volume "the search for the divine center" was the best part explaining many things about Plato. To understand in greater depth the influence of these ideals on the western world I recommend reading a book (which I read first) called "The Classical Tradition" by Gilbert Highet whom is also the translator of this book. That book reveals how most of the surviving great works throughout western history were written by authors who were well aware of the greek world and their ideals including many writers in the Christian tradition. Jaeger wrote a short book called "Greek Paideia and Early Christianity" which shows that connection very well. He has convinced me beyond doubt of his statement that the ancient greeks are the educators of the western world.

A Work of Arete
Anyone with an interest in Ancient Greece must read this book! Jaeger weaves elements of history, anthropology, philosophy, and psychology with masterful dexterity. I've read a number of general texts on Ancient Greek culture. There are some quite good ones out there. H.D.F. Kitto's, The Greeks, is another favorite of mine. Nevertheless, Jaeger's work stands well above the others. He provides a great deal of depth and detail but it never seems to wane as his genius provides a stunning insight on every page. Jaeger uses a concept well-known to classicists, arete, as a synthesizing thread. Paideia, which is roughly equal to our idea of culture, in the sense of 'she is a very cultured woman,' defined the aims and ideals of a Greek education. Arete, a blend of excellence, virtue, nobility, and skill provided a telos for that process of education. Jaeger, using the framework of educational ideals, came to present the true spirit of Ancient Greek culture. This idea, of using educational ideals to survey the depth and breadth of a culture, would rightfully scare a well-educated American. For our educational aims, which are primarily vocational or simply technical, represent a vacuum of higher values and ideals. Even the once powerful currency of 'honor' as a unifying goal has long since expired. A review of Ancient Greece, steeped in values and appreciative of the finest things in life, may rekindle the search and development of values in our own time and place. This book should be a guide for the quest.

Excellent all around source for all word origins
I've been using this book to source the meanings of scientific terms since 1980 while I was taking chordate anatomy and mammalogy at the Univ. of Washington. I now use this book routinely in preparing lesson plans and lectures for my high school biology classes. Knowing the meaning of the base words often helps the students retain and integrate the term into their vocabulary. The book is invaluable. My favorite word breakdown so far has been the scientific name of the Long Tailed Weasel, Mustela frenata. The literal translation is "the masked ones" (frenata) "who carry off mice"(mus- tela). If you are unsure which reference book in this category is the best book for you, I suggest that you go to the science library of a university near you and find this book and compare it to the books near by. It is by far the easiest to use.

Outstanding! Standard issue for any science based course!
This book is invaluable for anyone who has trouble learning scientific terminology or latin based nomenclature. I have yet to find a term, or latin root that was clearly contained with this text. This text should be standard issue for any science based course..high school, college or graduate level!

Bishop's Jaegers

A group are held 'captive' at a loony nudist colony.
A businessman, his fiancee, his secretary, a thief and a bishop leave a ferry lost in a fog, and find themselves at a nudist colony, where they are forced to remain. The usual Thorne Smith zaniness, with the occasional caustic comment on society.

Revelation Of The Legs
This is a truly wonderful, but little known sex-comedy, by Thorne Smith who brought us "Topper". Written in 1932, it deals with a young man named Peter Van Dyck, who has recently inherited his father's coffee business and is engaged to beautiful socialite Yolanda Wilmont. Peter's secretary Josephine Duvall is in love with Peter, and makes the most of every oportunity to attract him, mostly by showing off her sexy legs while taking a couple of letters. Josephine tells Peter that the stuffy Yolanda is entirely unsuitable for him, and that he needs someone to mold him into the kind of man who can successfully run a business (i.e., Josephine). Peter rebuffs her advances, but all the while finds himself getting turned on by his cheeky secretary. When the ferry they are taking gets lost in the fog, Peter, Yoland, Josephine, and a few other peripheral characters (including the Bishop of the title) set out in a small boat hoping to get to shore before the ferry. When they alight, they discover they are in a nudist colony, where all persons are forced to strip and go naked--all except Yolanda, for whom an exception is made. Being naked causes the characters to see themselves and others differently, especially Yolanda, who has an epiphany when she finally decides to disrobe.

Smith's prose is fast-moving and enjoyable, and his plots and dialogue are laugh-out-loud funny. This is my favorite of all his books.

A number of years ago, when I was in acting school, a classmate of mine and I adapted Chapter Three into a scene to perform for a show my school put on. It was a big success, and I have long thought this book was theatrical enough to be easily transformed into a movie or play, except for the second half which takes place in the nudist colony. How could you present this with everyone totally naked? I recently read that "The Bishop's Jaegers" is on its was to becoming a motion picture, so I am eager to see what they do about this.

Clergy in Long Johns
Thorne Smith is always a treat. The Bishop's Jaegers is my personal favorite of his works. Characters like "Aspirin Liz" and the little pickpocket make the book more personable. The plot involves a group of Ferry boat passengers stranded on a nudist colony. The pickpocket finds nudity unrewarding, the Bishop (in his Jaegers) finds it disconcerting. The reader finds it very amusing.

Invaluable PSI primer!
This is an immensely interesting book. As strange as it may sound to those who have never tried it, I found the concepts, explanations and exercises amazingly helpful in developing my psi abilities in just minutes.

Beverly Jaeger instills a sort of confidence in the reader that seems to be a large part of opening the mind to the process of learning. Small steps lead to cumulative victories. I would have never believed I could read colors after a half-hour of trying! This is amazing.

A must-have for those looking to explore their natural psychic abilities painlessly.

The Best Psychic Guide I've Read.
I can't say enough about this book. It approaches this subject from the proper perspective. Beverly Jaegers presents the subject of "psi" without the muddle of mysticism. This does much for bringing psi out of the dark ages and into mainstream science (where it certainly belongs). Her exercises were fun and frighteningly effective. I found myself experiencing many of the psychic effects with shocking clarity. This lady knows what she's talking about. I would recommend this book to anyone who's serious about learning to harness their innate psychic abilities.

Remote Viewing skills - made easy
Being rather new to the world of Remote Viewing, I found that "The Psychic Paradigm" offered me several different options on how to fine-tune my R.V. skills. Ways that are easy and fun. This book is a Must Read for those trying to get from HERE to THERE - via the Psychic Freeway. Thumbs Up for a Wonerful Book - presently by a Wonderful Lady - Beverly Jaegers.
