Superbly fiction producing high emotions

Uri Geller's Amazing Powers.
I have read over thirty books w/contet of Paranormal, but this one is better than all the rest. I have found numerous references to this book wich indicates to me the quality of this book to other writers. About Paranormal, this is the best book available. Ella's story can be true. Each chapter concludes with questions to guide one's study. If you can only afford one book, get this one, I don't think you will be disappoint if you are serious about your Paranormal.

A Journey into the Mystcal Realm
Uri Geller's Ella is a story of a bulimic fourteen year old girl abused by her parents, a alcoholic mother, and a fundamentalist Christian father which makes her withdraw into the supernatural world of angels and levitation. The only love and emotional support Ella knows is from her brother Frank which develops into a close wonderful telepathic communication. Read the book and find out how Ella is able to save her brother's life. Is it the power of love and prayer? This novel is so powerful that it will move your very being emotionally everytime you re-read it. Peter Gauderson, the journalist that Ella learns to trust and love is able to telepathically communicate with her, is a good man in the beginning. How sad when greed takes over his heart and he exploits Ella for his own personal gain. Uri Geller gives a very graphic discription of the horrors of suicide that will stay with you long after you finish the novel. Can Ella raise Peter from the dead or will she give her teddy bear to Jesus? Will Peter discover the true meaning of love and joy only marriage can give? It should warm your heart that "part of the proceeds" are going to the Bristol Children's Hospital and the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. Crystal Rose

Terrific for Ages 3-8
This "Read Aloud" series is by far the most enjoyable children's bible stories we have found. The illustrations are wonderful and the story selection in each volume is varied and interesting, but not overwhelming. Because of the writing style, the stories are very captivating for little children to hear. The use of pattern and repetion brings the action to life and the word choices are within their range. A friend told me it has been a fabulous resource for her sunday school class. Best of all, when my son began to read, these books proved to be the best and most interesting early readers for him because that same pattern, repetetion and word choice that was great for young listeners is perfect for young readers. My son now reads to his siblings and they all love it!

Not Your Traditional Children's Bible Story Book!
This series is by far the best of the best. The stories and illustrations are fabulous!

Children often find the illustrations in other Bible story books scary or weird. While the illustrations are true to the times in terms of dress, they are exaggerated in size, yet simple. For example, Zaccheus, "who was to little to reach high things..." is shown as a small man in HUGE chair. (p. 6-7)

The text is delightful! For example in "The Boys and Girls and Jesus," the children come to see Jesus as part of families, i.e. "Every day lots of daddies and mommies came to hear Jesus talk. Grandpas and grandmas and friends came, too. Some days - there were too many people to get inside a house. Then, the daddies and the mommies and the grandpas and the grandmas and the friends stood right out in the sunshine..." (p.71-74)

Great for older children to read to younger children. The best part is adults will enjoy this book too!

Excellent Resource
Ms. Lindvall does an excellent job of relaying classic Bible stories in a manner that is poignant, yet developmentally appropriate for young minds. It is evident that she has taken the utmost care and reverence in adapting the text. The beautiful illustrations by H. Kent Puckett accompany the stories in a captivating, powerful way. There are few enough words per page, and the illustrations are so well done, that the combination makes this series an excellent resource for sharing the Bible with children, and maintaining their attention long enough to deliver the Message. Each book includes 5 Bible Stories from both the Old and New Testaments. Stories include those such as that of Creation, Joseph and His Coat, Jesus Stills the Storm, and Noah and the Ark.

Mama & God
This is the story of an immigrant family in the early 1900s. Many times were hard but the family's faith in God brought them through. This is a very easy to read book with stories that put the reader in the setting. The stories, although enlightening about living in that time period, also serve the purpose of building one's faith by seeing how Mama believed God's promises and helped all her children to believe them too. This book is a pleasure to read & the reader will feel better after having read it.

Strong Biblically based role model for wives
I was surprised by how attractive biblical marriage is portrayed within the pages of this encouraging little book. This is not about how to have a happy marriage/family life when both partners are 'wonderful'. This is the life-story of a woman who applied God's truths to her life and trusted in the Lord for the outcome. Her husband didn't suddenly turn into the romantic white knight she may have dreamed about in her youth, but she loved and respected him, even regarding his differences. She walked the walk, sacrificing many things to the Lord, and found that the secret to a happy life was a thankful heart. There just aren't very many Christian books out there that unabashedly take God's word as it is written. So many water it down with situational ethics...this one does not, but what an encouraging and riveting biography for us to follow.

First We Have Coffee
This is an excellent book to read. I have this book and I have passed it around to my friends. It is a very heart warming story. I hope you like it.

a spirit lifter
This book is absolutely wonderful. It is such a wonderful encourager for married couples. I 've been reading this book since September 2001 and have not finished it yet (now April 2002). This is by choice because I try to savor every bit. In addition to the bible, this book was the only book I was able to read as I was going through the loss of my unborn child. It lifted my spirits, comforted me and encouraged me oh so much as a wife and a mother. This will be the first book that my marriage group will read.

I recommend this book for both spouses to read and reflect.

Praying for a Part II.

Together For Good: Lessons From Fifty-Five Years Of Marriage
In a day when so many social institutions have lost their luster, "Together For Good" provides a sterling testament of the enduring virtue and value of a "vibrant" lifelong commitment. The Mitchell's unique recollection of their more than half century journey together holds forth a hopeful note amidst our hi-tech concerns of alienated households, fragmented families and ruptured relationships (in every regard). It is a highly recommended reading for those who would contemplate the gift of mutual companionship at it's very best!

Thank you Dr's. Ella & Henry Mitchell for this timeless treasure!

Something Practical In Couple Enrichment ... Real SPICE !
The Mitchells speak straight from their hearts to ours and provide practical help and open honest means for healing the hurts of those of us who are in new or long term relationships. The book is a tender dialogue between them spanning a half century of changes, crises and challenges; reminding us that all of life is indeed dialogue and that something mystical and magical happens in relationships when we truly see, hear and tenaciously embrace the other. Their story is a special gift.

the first lady of song
The Pinkney couple's biography on Ella Fitzgerald is a delightful read for young children who want to learn more about the talented jazz artist. The use of narrator Scat Cat Monroe as a device to engage children is successful especially due to his use of language. The rhymes and rhythms the authors adopt to tell the story echo the snazziness of the music at the time. Young readers will thoroughly enjoy getting to know more about the artist Fitzgerald through this story.

I love Ella
I found a children's book about her, even better. It was a great book to jive with. Beautiful pictures, and a nice history lesson on this wonderful woman!

A Tribute to the First Lady of Song.....
"You may think I look like any other cat. But baby, I'm in a class all by myself. Scat Cat's my name. Scat Cat Monroe. A name I've earned. Got my name from knowin' Ella. Ella Fitzgerald. The Queen of Scat. What's scat? you ask. Scat's the sound that don't hold back. Ella's sound-that was scat. Singing so supreme. Music's velvet-ribbon dream..." Narrated by this cool, zoot suited feline, Scat Cat Monroe introduces the incomparable, Ella Fitzgerald, to a whole new generation of fans. From her humble beginnings in Yonkers, New York, to her contest winning debut at Harlem's Apollo Theater at seventeen, to her meteoric rise, singing with the big bands and jazz artists of the 1930s and '40s, Scat Cat was there, stompin' at the Savoy with the Chick Webb Orchestra and jammin' to cloud nine and back with Dizzy Gillespie. "Now, when Ella performed, she let her lyrics go. She took her singing out to play." Andrea Davis Pinkney's engaging, lyrical text swings with imagery, magic, and rhythm. Brian Pinkney's bold, bright, and inventive illustrations dazzle, as they swirl around the pages to the music of the words. Together, word and art create an inspiring and captivating introductory biography starring the First Lady of Song. With an Author's Note at the end to complete the story, Ella Fitzgerald is an energetic, fun-filled tribute, that's perfect for music lovers 8-12, and also works well as a read-aloud for younger children.

A Book for Scrabble Enthusiasts
What a strange, imaginative, and creative reading experience!A fable told in letters, Mark Dunn's book shows us the sometimes hilarious and more often sad results of censorship as the island of Nollop, begins to lose their alphabet. Named after Nevin Nollop who phrased the line: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog, the council of the island feel he's speaking to them from the dead when the letters of the phrase begin to fall off a memorial statue of him in the town square. They then ban the falling letters from the alpahabet and so they also disappear from the pages of the book causing a creative bit of wordplay as more letters drop. Both fun and frustrating the book can be digested in one wordful sitting as the heroine tries to save the town. A really inventive and fun read!

--An epistolary novel--
ELLA MINNOW PEA is the masterpiece of a very creative mind. I approached this story thinking that perhaps the book was meant mostly for English majors or those individuals who just love words. I was right and also wrong. This is a very clever story filled with interesting word play that everyone can enjoy. It's also an imaginative fable that is told in the form of letters that are written in lovely prose.

The story takes place on the fictional island of Nollop that was named after Nevin Nollop, the author of a very famous pangram sentence. Mr. Nollop is revered by the islanders and most especially by the officials who are members of the town council. On the island there's a monument to honor Mr. Nollop and beneath it the famous pangram is printed. THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG. One day the letter Z falls of the word LAZY and as time passes more letters continue to fall from the monument. The council members decide that the voice of Nevin Nollop is speaking to them from the grave and telling them to discontinue the usage of the fallen letters. Severe penalties are issued to the islanders if they use any of the forbidden letters in dialog or in print.

Most of the residents think that taking letters out of the alphabet is ridiculous, but since the penalties are harsh; they try to obey the new laws. As time passes, the people become desperate and begin to look for a way out of the miserable repression that had become their lives.

This book was very entertaining and it was also amusing to see the various words that people would come up with in their messages to one another. For instance, when many of the letters that would be used to spell chicken were forbidden, a man wrote a note to his friend thanking her for "the thermos of pullet soup" that she had sent to him.

A fun, alphabetic frolic
This epistolary novel is probably not for everyone. But if you enjoy sophisticated language and language manipulation (read: English majors), this is a wonderfully creative book.

Dunn creates an idyllic island nation, Nollopton (formerly Utopiana), that quickly descends to a military state reminiscent of Orwell's 1984, with neighbor turning in neighbor and students reporting teachers when letters from that famous panagram, "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog," start falling off the statue to honor the sentence and the man who created it, Nevin Nollop. The High Council, politicians elected for life, take this as a sign from Nollop himself, disregarding the fact that the glue that holds the letters on is over 100 years old.

And so, the people of Nollop, who because of inconsistent phone service are a letter-writing people, must, one by one, eliminate letters from their lives or face serious punishment, including banishment for the third offense. The letters become truly hilarious as more of the alphabet disappears--just imagine a world with no "D"! Dunn manages, despite all of this alphabetical mayhem, to build in love interests for the two young cousins who most consistently write to one another. A completely enjoyable afternoon read that I think has found a place as one of my favorite books.

Truly Enchanting
This is the most creative books I have ever read. At birth, Ella was given the gift of obedience by and ... fairy named Lucinda. Now Ella has to obey every command that comes her way. Someone could command her to cut off her own hand, and unless someone else told her not to, she'd have to do it.

The only comfort Ella would ever get was from her best friend and cook, Mandy, and her mother. But when Ella's mother dies, everything goes crazy. She finds out that Mandy is actually her fairy godmother, her father is going to send her to finishing school AND he's getting re-married to Cruella Deville (well, not REALLY Cruella, but someone just as bad...). Oh, but there's always the happy ending for our favorite heroine: Through all her hardships, Prince Charmont is secretly filling his head with thoughts of Ella, and of course, you can all guess the ending, though at times it will seem very hopeless.

This story is full of wit, charm, and humor. Full of suprises, this book will make you want to cry at times and then it will make you laugh. Excellent for all ages.

My favorite book!
This is definetly a winner! I fell in love with it imedietly, and wasn't satisfied even after I'd read it a few times in a row! Well worth it's award. The ending is completely satisfactory--not to mention suprising, heart wretching, and perfect. Even after all these years, if I want to feel cheered up, I turn to Ella Enchanted. Gail Carson Levine has a definite gift. She is creative and original--if not in the whole Cinderella air, in her method of presenting it. I will NOT tell you the ending or even the middle, because the suprise is a definite SUPRISE. But I will give you this: Ella is a young maiden who was bestowed a curse in her first hour of life by a well-meaning fairy named Lucinda. The curse was obedience. Ella has to do whatever another person commands of her. The book tells the story of the dificulties she went through, until the ulitimate test..... This book puts all other Cinderella -- if not every other fairy tale -- stories on the shelf with it's wit and humor. I hope that you will read this and I know that you won't regret it! Recommend it to everyone to share the wonderful experience! But please don't let that person know the ending! Because the ending is my favorite part...and it will be your's too! ... I recommend it for 10-14, maybe even younger.

Ella Enchanted (BEST BOOK)
Do you like spells??Do you like fairy tales?? well if you do you'll LOVE this book. It is wrote by the enchanted "Gail Carson Levine". The story is about a young girl named Ella, that lives in a very magical place called "Frell". Where faries, gnomes, and elves run wild. If you like "Harry Potter" you'll realize that Ella is the female version of the master from "Hogwarts".

Ella is faced with many hard times and difficulties throughout the story. She has many challenges, because she is cursed to be obedient no matter what! If somebody commanded her to disown the land of frell she would have to, and if somebody commanded her to kill the king, or herself she would have to do it. This is one of the biggest problems throughout the story. the curse has been in affect since she's been a baby and she tries many times to rid herself of the curse by finding the farie that did it to her(Lucinda). Will Ella have the strength to find this mean farie and will she betray her kingdom?? You'll have to read this book in order to find out.

It's a good way to begin...
As the Deaf son of an ASL teacher, I have seen this book used in its full capacity. When one looks at the textbook at the surface, one can note that it has superb organization, relevant vocabulary regarding various common topics (i.e. locations, daily activities, etc.), some good cultural information, and a video that serves as a very effective learning tool to build receptive skills and increase understanding of the language itself. One thing, however, that's lacking about this book, is the amount of vocabulary. The most difficult thing about learning a language is the vocabulary aspect, and this book doesn't help much in that aspect. Therefore, my mother uses "A Basic Course In Sign Language" as an supplement to fortify the grammatical and vocabulary aspects of the language. The lack of vocabulary and grammatical concepts nonwithstanding, this is a very good way to start in your endeavour to learn American Sign Language!

This book was used to teach at my church
The book is excellent and has been used in previous sign language classes that I have helped out at my church and has successfully bridged the gap between the hearing and deaf members at the church to a degree where many of them had a continued interest to even help the other interpreters with the church songs! While the book was most used, the tape was "so-so" but useful for those times away from class and away from the exposure of other deaf at the church.

Good Text
This series is very helpful, even if you're teaching yourself.
The video is a very nice addition, and it gets one usedto silent conversation....
