Great timeless knowledge applicable to all!
Once again Roger has amazed me with the way he explains his knowledge. I read 75 books a year, this is one book that I really had an easy time learning and applying, and that is what we are all looking for isn't it? A quick painless way to success? This is so clear that an elementary student will possess the skills to achieve anything in their life.

Let's talk about it: Extraordinary friends
I ordered this book for my sister, who's 2 year old son has cerebral palsy. My idea was that she could place it in her local day care center that my nephew attends so that the other kids could have some of their questions answered about kids with special needs. This book really fit the bill..it is clear and concise, and seemed to address lots of questions that I have heard other children asking. Other than just seeing that something is "wrong" or different, maybe after reading the book they will realize that diversity is a part of life and that people with special needs can be just as fun and interesting as everyone else! The book really helped put into words what I would like kids to know about meeting and interacting with kids with disabilites. I also ordered "Someone special just like you", but found the Extraordinary friends book to be a much better choice for my particular needs.

The most useful single book I have ever read
Do you remember reading all of those textbooks in college and wondering when you might ever apply the useless information in them? This is anything but! It is full of real world situations and advice that applies to everything from hard nose business decisions to personal fullfillment. If you have been looking for a book that is fun to read while also giving you a wealth of negotiating power, this is it!

One of the best on the subject
"Secrets of Power Negotiating" is one of the most complete books on negotiation that I have ever read. Logically organized, it carries the reader through the entire negotiation process. It covers the most common gambits and how to use them as well as how to defend against them.

The book is divided into seven sections. The first section is on negotiating gambits and principles. Negotiating gambits include the common reluctant buyer/reluctant seller, handling impasses, nibbling, positioning for easy acceptance and well as many, many others including unethical ones like the red herring. The second section is on how to resolve tough negotiating problems. The third section covers how to use pressure points in negotiation. Then comes negotiating with non-Americans followed by attitudes and beliefs of a power negotiator. Section six covers developing power over the other side and section seven covers the various drives that motivate people in a negotiation.

Simply one of the best books on negotiation, it is a highly recommended read and should be kept near at hand for the occasional review whether to assist you in dealing with the car salesman, the children, or anyone else you deal with.

If you want to be a PROACTIVE NEGOTIATOR, read this book!
Roger Dawson has been one of my success mentors for years. Since almost every dealing in our lives involves some type of negotiating, this book should be on everyone's book shelf. His wisdom is clear and eloquent - but more than that it is right on! Even before you finish The Secrets of Power Negotiating for the first time, you will be a changed person - it's that incredible. I say first time because you will want to read it again and again.

Roger Dawson covers all of the proactive bases: smart thinking, system thinking, futuristic thinking, and positive thinking. If you are truly seeking the kind of success and abundance that makes your life 100% livable - you must read this book. Some of Dawson's ideas are found in SUCCESS BOUND, another book that can help you proactively deal with problems and turn them into opportunities for success.

Everything that I have put into practice that Dawson has recommended has worked. The dozens of gambits and recommended strategies will bring you success. Read it and you will believe that you can negotiate anything that you set your mind to. My copy is worn with highliter and pen marks all through it from the numerous times that I've returned to it in order to study it again.

You will find that this exciting and informative book becomes a part of you. Don't hold back - let it happen. In fact, you should spend 10 to 15 minutes every morning focusing your thoughts on the truths of this book, thereby allowing them to seep deep into your subconscious mind. If you do this I guarantee this wisdom will most assuredly bring you the success and abundance you deserve.

Enjoy the book and your new proactive life.

Great tactics for people without morals or a conscience
A great eye opener for the non-salesperson! However, Dawson's tactics are what make the sales profession a sleazy business. I would never deal with anyone knowingly using these tactics, or at least I'd never deal with them a second time. His negotiating examples are riddled with bogus schemes such as creating fictitious higher authorities (i.e. I'll have to run the deal by my committee, my investors, my partner, etc.) He even suggests making commitments you and the other party know you can't keep. Paraphrasing: 'Come down another $2,000 and I promise to get your invoice payments in 5 days before due date,' Dawson says. 'You and he both know it'll never happen. But at least you let him save face by pretending he got a concession.' Bull-hockey! We're dealing in lies and deceit here, and calling it game. These tactics are good if you are void of moral decency and are not looking for repeat business. Otherwise, learn them so that when you see them, you can run like hell!

Valuable Lessons Well Presented
This audio program is that rare combination of valuable, practical advice presented in an entertaining, easy to absorb manner. It's clear Roger Dawson knows his topic well, but what separates him from the many other "negotiating experts" is that his material is well-organized, and filled with many real-life, entertaining examples of his principles in action, making it easy and fun to learn as you listen.

I enjoyed learning about the different negotiating "gambits" (as Dawson calls them), for example "good guy, bad guy", "reluctant buyer/seller", "nibbling", etc. Many of these may seem like basic common sense, but they are the classic techniques used in all negotiations. Dawson shows you not only how to use them, but also how to respond when these techniques are used against you.

In my view, the author's "win/win" philosophy strikes just the right balance between hardball tactics and "win/win" fluff that ignores real world tricks. So even if some of these tactics may seem manipulative and unethical, Dawson's point is that it is important to become familiar with them, if only because others may be using them against you.

The material is presented at a basic level, so if you are an experienced negotiator, you may not learn much new here. But for the rest of us, a fascinating, entertaining and very practical introduction to the topic. Highly recommended!

Win-Win
I have read many books of this genre. I listed to this audiobook set and it is great. The presentation quality is excellent, but the content quality is fantastic. For example, his win-win section is better than any other I have seen. Most people (even experts) seem to think that win-win mean that one person wins and the other person is made to think he also wins, but is not quite that way (even if they don't say it, their end result is that it MUST be that way based on their model). Dawson's is a true win-win as is this audiobook.

Selling common sense as secrets?
Was this an autobiography? It sure read that way, considering the author referenced his personal wealth and possessions more than he referenced persuasion. A very vain man, it seems. Mr. Dawson's 'secrets' are little more than packaged common sense. I give this book two 'mercy' stars because there were one or two ideas that I found helpful. One or two, not three. In short, this book revealed very little about persuasion, let alone persuade me to pick up any of the author's other books.

Best business book I've ever read
As a school teacher, I don't read many business books but this one was so helpful to me. There was so much about persuasion that I didn't understand until I read this book. Now it's helping me in every area of my life. Perhaps this sounds trite, but I feel so much more powerful now that I understand the secrets in this book.

One of the best business books I've read
Wow! I'm impressed! This is one of the best-researched, most thorough books on persuasion that I've had the pleasure of reading. Best of all - it's not just theory. The author, Roger Dawson adds tons of practical examples and applications for each technique. That means you can use this stuff immediately. By far one the best business books I've read in some time.

Some good information, but MAJOR issues
I have never written a review of a book on amazon, but based on my experience with Super Baby Food I feel compelled to submit a review of this book. While this book has good tips on how to make and prepare your own baby food at home (and I found these to be very helpful), there are several major flaws that parents should be aware of:

1) This book is not well-organized and could be written with 1/3 the number of words utilized by this author. It is also chock-full of extraneous information and helpful "tips" on completely unrelated topics.

2) Alarmingly, this author promotes nuts and nut butters and recommends introducing these at 10 months of age. Peanuts are SEVERELY allergenic and can even cause anaphylactic shock, which can lead to throat constriction and even death in children and adults. The information on nut allergies is mentioned in a completely separate allergy chapter of the book and is not discussed in the chapter on nuts and nut butters. Because this book is incredibly dense, it is easy to forget about this reference by the time your baby is 10 months old and it is time, according to the author, to introduce nuts. Early introduction of nuts can reduce the likelihood that a child will outgrow this allergy. Most pediatricians now recommend waiting until 2 years to introduce nuts.

3) This author recommends home-prepared carrots, which I learned from another source contain nitrates and are dangerous for newborns.

4) This author has a superior attitude about her methodology, which is a little annoying. Her only scientific support for her approach is that she has two kids and they seem to have been sick less than other kids.

I would buy this book for the useful tips, but go in with eyes open to the flaws

Some great info but horrible presentation
I am not a "health nut" but do like to prepare nutritious food to my family. This book was great in its advice on foods to introduce per month (although some foods...like nuts...were introduced too early) and how to prepare and store pureed early baby food. The section detailing fruits and veggies (what to get, how to prepare) was especially helpful. I must admit I never made her super cereal, but was encouraged to buy the whole grain kind.

However, about 300 of the 500+ pages were completely useless and/or had nothing to do with food. In addition, the general layout of the book was poor. The recipes were introduced in the middle of the book and were haphazard, not allowing me to use the book as the reference I had hoped.

Also the parent must keep in mind that most kids grow up in the real world. Eating healthy is wonderful, however you won't be able to find most of this food if you ever leave the house. My dd is a picky eater and I now have to pack her lunch wherever we go because she won't eat the standard grilled cheese or pizza at a restaurant.

This is the way we should all be eating...
This book is definitely not for the mom who wants to feed her kids the "average American diet", but we all know that that is not the healthiest way to feed our kids anyway. The reviewers who hated this book just can't handle the fact that it tells you to feed your child whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds, and organic fruits and veggies. It is vegetarian, but just add meat if you want(not a hard concept...).

Some people seem to be really bothered by her suggestions to add things to the Super Porridge. The healthy extras she recommends like kelp, tahini, and brewers yeast are considered by many to be extremely healthy foods, even if most people don't know anything about them. Babies who haven't gotten used to highly salted or sugary processed foods probably won't find any of these foods to be yucky. I suspect that some reviewers who have introduced this diet to toddlers would face this problem though. Besides, I find it easy to try what's comfortable for me and leave the rest. The book is an excellent reference with a page on each food with exactly how to buy, store, prepare, freeze etc. There is the "Super Baby Food Diet Plan", (centered around frozen food cubes and homemade whole grain baby cereal) which is extensive in detail and tells exactly what food groups, how much of each, and gives all sorts of nutrition info. on why certain things are beneficial/important. Her analysis and charts on what vitamins/minerals/food groups your baby will be getting from the Super Baby Food Diet and how you can keep track of these things is dizzying. She tells you to include certain amounts of servings of green foods, yellow foods, etc. so that you can be sure that you are including all the nutrients your baby needs to be healthy. Even if you choose not to follow the diet in such detail, her nutrition advice is great and her method of pureeing and freezing the different food in cubes is super easy and convenient. We never found a reason to get a jar of baby food with our first baby, and now the second is almost ready for solids and I will be getting my ice cube trays out again.
My favorite part of this book is that it makes it easy to feed my baby a whole foods diet, which is what I consider to be the healthiest choice for the whole family.

As for her warnings, opinions, and thrifty suggestions- some are laughable, but many are good. They certainly don't negate all of the fantastic information that is packed in this book about feeding babies and toddlers. And I have tried some of her recipes. Her whole grain breakfast cereal that you cook in the crockpot overnight is great, as well as several other recipes I've tried. Again, they are probably not really geared to a mom who is comfortable with the typical American diet. Her toddler will be eating Captain Crunch for breakfast.

Mastering "Try to find something worthwhile in this book"
I am a professional programmer and purchased this book to develop COBOL programs on my desktop. The book contains tons of information on COBOL, but virtually NONE on how to use the included software. There are several good pieces of software included on the cd (Crystal Reports, 2 different GUI-COBOL interfaces) but, again, very little documentation on how to use them. My advice: Buy Sams "COBOL in 24 Hours" (which includes the Fujitsu V3 COBOL compiler)and download the free COBOL compiler from the Fujitsu website. I learn quicker with the "Let's build an application" approach that Sams uses. Good luck.

Excellent book for even a COBOL expert
This is the best COBOL book I have ever read - clear (concepts, usages), resourceful (you can find everything you need very easily), practical (good examples). It has everything a COBOL expert may need.

Excellent
I think the book offers enough info for me to not only learn the language but also refer to it at a later time, ensuring true value for money, the free compiler is free anyway from the fujitsu website, so buying it for that reason is not worthwhile, purchase it as a reference tool and as a advanced beginning tool, if you can stand the heat from the COBOL kitchen you'll find you can cook some pretty delicious COBOL delights.

Very Poor Rep of Native Art
This book does not show much of Native art Only has One design and it is not very good

High interest activities for students of all ages.
Although the activites in this series are geared to elementary students, they can be adapted and used effectively with any age group. What better way to learn than through hands-on activities? I have used these activites successfully with students in grades 6-8, but must admit that I have enjoyed them every bit as much as my students! If you want your students to have a deeper understanding of and appreciation for Northwest Coast Indian art, then these books are for you. Instead of merely observing art, students will relish the opportunity to create it themselves.

Wonderful introduction to Native American traditions and art
This is a wonderful book for children to learn about Native American traditions and crafts. I first read it in fourth grade, and in ninth grade used the pattern for a button blanket of my own for a Washington State History project!
