A fast and easy way to learn medical terminology
Whether you want to understand what your doctor just told you, or you're considering a career in medicine, I would recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn medical terminology. Quick Medical Terminology will teach you to break down medical terms into parts so you can pronounce, spell, and define them. No previous knowledge of the medical profession is necessary. The format is simple. New words are listed at the beginning of each unit. Word definitions are short and easy to understand. Good examples are given for each term. There are blanks to complete throughout the text, two tests at the end of each unit, and final self tests at the end of the book. Answers for each question and the tests are also provided, so you can check your work. A great way to learn over 500 medical terms at your own pace!

Widow to Widow - an excellent resourse
I found an earlier edition in a library 12 years ago when my husband was dying of prostate cancer, and I had no one close with whom to share. It seemed every page had a jewel of information that was so helpful. One I especially like, when as a plumber in action (with no husband to do it), and you have the pliers trying to tighten a screw--advice "right is tight", "left is loose!" How about that for some GOOD practical advice. Of course, her whole book is much deeper than that and she covers so many situations and feelings a widow undergoes.
I have now given out 5 or 6 of "Widow to Widow" to others during these 12 years since my husband died. A friend even ordered one to be able to counsel widows as a pastor's wife. She thinks it is excellent. I am now placing another order to have "Widow to Widow" on hand when an appropriate instance arises and another new widow needs some calming insight.
Best at Capturing the Emtional Turmoil of Losing a Spouse
I read several "widow" books after losing my husband suddenly to a heart attack and this book did the best job of capturing the emotional turmoil of losing a spouse. It is very difficult to cope with the unwelcome changes in ones life and this book helps to guide the way.
A MUST read for recent widows!!
I was given this book by my sister-in-law I had never met, on the death of my husband, who had committed suicide at age 46. It was the most thoughtful thing that anyone did! It gave me such insight into what I was going through (the "crazies"), and what to expect and hope for, as well as telling me that all I was going through was normal. Every widow should be handed this book at the funeral home to take straight home! Lots of resources listed to get help, from financial to support groups. A definite book to have on hand!

MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY MADE EASY!
I just started taking a medical terminology class last month and I was sure that learning all of these new complicated words would be extremely difficult but the Medical Terminology (A Programmed Systems Approach) 8th Edition is so easy to follow and actually fun to do. I've found myself fascinated with the idea that one word can have so many different meanings behind it. The way the book is set-up it has sort of an elementary school appeal to it because you work in it frame by frame and instead of skipping from one term to the next the book is constantly re-introducing you to terms that you've learned in previous units and intermingling them with the new ones.
The only disappointment in this book was that the paperback version did not include the terminology tapes that accompany the hardcover version, but other that that this book is a good investment if you plan to go into the medical field or if you just want to learn for your own personal knowledge.

Medical Terminology: A Programmed Text
An excellent guide, and extremely thorough. You'll be surprised at how long you can keep this book because it can really save you a lot of embarassment when you don't know something and need to to look it up. However, some of the explanations are a bit wordy. But all in all, a must have for all health profesionals!
