One of the few books around which was impossible to put down
Be warned, this book is one that should deffinatly not be judged by a short paragraph on the plot. Like many astounding books, when you try and tell somebody about the story line it comes off sounding tacky or dodgy. However, do not be fooled. This book is more that sex, and suicide. When reading it you find yourself relating almost to the characters which is often a lacking quality in books. Also the plot itself and the wild twists are very unpredictable which makes it an exciting and incredible read. I'm not going to tell you about the plot because that would ruin it for you, but my advice to you is do read it. It is worth it. To those of you who have read it and enjoyed it, may i suggest you also read "Plan B, by Jonathon Tropper" and "Secret History, by Donna Tartt"

And ignore the age, i am in fact 15 but am not registered as a member of Amazon and therefore couldn't write a review.

Terrific Erotic Thriller
As the publisher of the audio book version (no longer available) of this book, I am very familiar with it and it's wonderfully, exciting and thrilling story. Once you pick it up you won't be able to put it down. It's got sex, plot, characterization, sex, and a fantastic ending...I always thought it would make a terrific movie.

One of the best I've ever read!
This book has it all. Suspense, action, sex, and love. As a big fan of Clancy, I usually read political thrillers, but this book make me a huge fan of psychological thrillers also. The main character Phillie is a joy to read about. I recommend this book to all mature audiences.

An Exciting Book on the Exciting Drama!
This book is very rich in contents which compose of the process to the beginning of the program, explanation of producersĀf intentions, interviews to actors and actresses playing main casts such as Jason Priestly and Shannen Doherty, the plot of the ninth series, and many photographs. Especially, it is interesting that producers, actors, and actresses talk about the drama in terms of why this drama has become popular. Actors and actresses talk about how they can get their roles and how they see their roles and themselves. I could empathize with real actors and actresses more than characters in the drama. The drama is directed with reality, which is similar to this book. Anyway, this is an indispensable book for everyone who loves the drama.

Good Thriller
This is a fun and exciting new-age thriller filled with action, suspense, and bad words. That's the one thing I don't like about it. If you liked the movie Crimson Tide, you'll enjoy this book. I can't say it's fast-paced but the writer does of a knack for keeping you reading a hundred pages at a time. But like I said it has it's share of what I call "useless" words

Techno-thriller extraordinaire
A fabulous read from a true master. The premise of this techno-thriller is original, the characters plausible and intriguing, and the plot entertaining. A definite must-read for fans of other works by Davis as well as fans of Clancy and Henrick.

i'd rather have enid and rebecca
Although I'm an ardent admirer of Clowes, Caricature left me disappointed. Out of the nine stories in this collection, I was only really impressed by and interested in two. One of which was the title piece, which told the somewhat charming, somewhat unnerving story of a cartoon artist who makes his living drawing caricatures at carnivals and his odd relationship with a teenage girl who's in awe of his work. In typical Clowes style, all of these stories feature characters that are obsessed, alienated, and depressed, but unfortunately most of them (such as MCMLXVI, which is nothing more than a guy ranting about his preoccupation with 60's pop culture) feel tedious and don't really seem to go anywhere. Clowes is a brilliant cartoonist, but this collection isn't his best work.

Unreality
Clowes has always been an excellent storyteller, but the brilliance of his work is not in his stories (which are often mundane and uneventful) but the rich and poignant display of emotions that play underneath the narrative. This was certainly the case in "Ghost World" and "David Boring" in that the exploration of loneliness, adolescent angst and self-loathing took place in the nuances of facial expression and the subtext of spoken word, and not in the unfolding of the plot. "Caricature" is no different, but with the added advantage of Clowes working without the burden of having to tell a story. Being less constrained by the demands of a longer, more cohesive narrative format, Clowes in this collection of nine vignettes is able to explore his themes with greater freedom and whimsy. Thus, many of the stories here take on a dream-like quality and even the more grounded ones have a strong sense of unreality. And indeed, it is in the weird plane of reverie where the emotions he means to convey are best communicated. This is stream-of-consciousness in the form of the graphic novel and more than in any of his other work he communicates at the level of the subconscious. Needless to say there are moments in this book that are transcendental.

I'm Glad I'm Not Any of These People.....
How does Dan Clowes manage to tell pointless, meandering stories about monstrously defective people and still make them entertaining? Beats me. I'm just glad to know that, as messed-up as I may be, I'm not anywhere NEAR as bad as the folks portrayed in Caricature....For instance, Clowes introduces us to Mona Beadle (Green Eyeliner), a former fat-girl who has devoted her life to a strange revenge fantasy, which fails miserably. Or there's always the malcontent who just rants about how every year after 1966 was no good. Or Mal Rosen, a caricature artist who meets a severly messed up girl who may or may not be: 15 Years old, 22 Years old, the daughter of a famous artist, battered by her boyfriend, etc. And don't forget the luckless Super-Hero and the strange trick-or-treater...

In addition to great storytelling and lovely art, Clowes also delivers the reader a feeling of inner peace....because no matter HOW bad your life may be, Clowes shows you it could always be worse. Highly recommended!

Light but enjoyable submarine technothriller
This was one of the earliest attempts to save submarine technothrillers from the end of the cold war. In this one, a band of Central Asian fanatics somehow manage to hijack a high-tech US Sub (SSN Kentucky) that is virtually undetectable. The Russians have developed technology that may allow them to locate the sub, but they insist that the Americans provide an ASW expert who can guide them to it. With little direction, the uninspiring crew of the equipped Russian sub don't quite cooperate with their new American crewman. On the flipside, the American is a washed-up former sub skipper with a terrible secret, one that undermines his killer instinct. The Russian sub equipped with the souped-up sonar is a Victor II class sub, an ancient nuclear boat (their successors, the Victor III first put to sea about 20 years ago). The plan is to train the crew on using the wonder sonar, then transfer both it and crew to a more advanced sub. Assuming there's time.

This was an interesting book, and between going into the novelty of its premise and the regular snatches of modern submarine technology, it's an interesting book. What sinks this story is the idea that it could have been an even more interesting book. We never get more than bare bones of an idea that the Victor II and its crew are at the bottom of the Russians pecking order (there's an evil Russian admiral with a topnotch flagship - a Sierra class attack sub that gives way to no boat; his disdain for the American and his new crew is one of the forces that slowly but surely elevates the hero in the eyes of his new crew). Unfortunately, neither the crew or the broken down Victor II become more than cardboard figures - so it's no fun when they swap ends and decide to help the American. The techno aspect of the book is somewhat light (not as much as Pat Robinson) and won't intimidate or enlight landlubbers like me.
