Anoraknophobia: a masterpiece!
Marillion does the Soundtrack - the next film!?
Yet another classic! Forget CHICKEN RUN, let's see the man and his dog on the HOLLYWOOD silver screen. Better yet, get Marillion to do the soundtrack - their latest album just out is called ANORAKNOPHOBIA! (coincidence? Fate? Act of God?) This book takes the intrepid duo into the realm of Hollywood possiblities with a plot that rivals James Bond and Austin Powers, characters like the enigmatic and intriguing Queenie who is at once frightening and wildly attractive, and the villianous von Struedel who could beat Dr. Evil at ping pong any day! Funny throughout, yet another winner from the folk who brought you W&G: the Lost Slipper and the Curse of the Ramsbottoms. Great bedtime fare!
Wallace and Gromit: Anoraknophobia
Wallace and Gromit: Anoraknophobia is a great book for even a person that isn't interested in the claymation movies. It features the oscar winning character Wallace and his faithful dog pal Gromit. The book is very humorous at times but also puts it's share in with suspense. It takes place when Wallace creates a ping pong -o- matic home leisure system. Wallace tests out the new home leisure system he breaks his irreplaceable drum on account of they are on a budget. Wallace decides to enter in a invention convention to raise money for the new drum there and the wackiness begins! This is a great book that is very well drawn and thought out. If you liked movies such as "The Wrong Trousers" or "A Grand Day Out," you should definatly check this book out.

Perfect science and read-aloud book.
A wonderfully succinct overview of the blue whale and it's habits.
The clear, sweet prose makes delivery of the content easy, and the very fine, soft illustrations demand repeated veiwing. My Preschool and Kindergarten ESL students found it highly engaging.
If there's a better science and read-aloud book around I'd really like to know about it. TEN stars.
Follow this book up with the superb "Is a Blue Whale the Biggest Thing There Is?" by Robert E. Wells. Wells' book uses the whales' size as a starting point for exploring the size of the universe and other very big things (the second step involves putting a hundred blue whales in a really big jar). Read my review of Wells' book if you like.
ONE OF THE BEST WHALE BOOKS AVAILABLE!
I'm a whale researcher who has spent much of the last 12 years studying blue whales in the North Pacific. I'm also a mom who loves children's literature. Rarely do I see a book that is so accurate factually while it is captivating and magical! The illustrations are beautiful. I highly recommend it to anyone who has children who are facinated by whales.

Disturbing yet accurate portrayal of racism in Texas
I live in Montgomery County Texas and unfortunately this book is as accurate as it is frightening. The book does a wonderful job of exposing the racism which exists just below the surface in Conroe and throughout Texas.
Recommended for anyone who wants to be shocked and disgusted at what can happen in Small Town USA today.
Required reading for Texans
White Lies by Nick Davies should be required reading for all Texas high school students. This is a well chronicled story of Clarence Brandley, a school janitor in Conroe, Texas. When a high school cheerleader is brutally assaulted and murdered during a Saturday practice at school, the local police are called to the scene. They quickly identify the perpetrator of the heinous crime: Clarence Brandley. The only evidence to support their conclusion? Brandley is the only black custodian. Tried and convicted of capital murder, Brandley receives the death penalty and languishes on death row for years. Is there justice in Texas? If you're white and wealthy. No white person has ever been executed in Texas for killing a black. Former Texas Governor George Bush proudly claims that no innocent person was ever executed on his "shift". Little would he know. Proponents of the death penalty need to read this chilling account. Perhaps something would have been learned from history, instead of being forced to repeat previous mistakes - or injustice. Napoleon Beasley, a black man who as a teenager killed the father of a federal court judge, was convicted by a racist jury and sentenced to death. Recently he received a stay of execution. When will this insanity end? Incidentally, the book is very difficult to find - especially in Texas!

A must-read book
I read this book about 10 years ago. It is one of the best books I have ever read. It is horrifying, and unbelievable, but you will not put it down. Nick has a brilliant writing style. Hope the publishers reprint it -I lent mine to someone and have been looking for another for years.
Excellent view of Southern Justice Gone Wrong
As a citizen of Conroe and someone who lived throuh the events, I find this book an amazing and horrifying story of justice gone wrong. Small town justice at its worst in Texas.

Glad to see you back, chuck!
Although it's sad to think that there may be no more Wallace and Gromit films (the animator, Nick Park, seems to be into other projects at the moment), this comic book captures a lot of the Wallace and Gromit spirit. There are a lot of wonderful little sight-gags (check out the titles of the books Gromit reads) and the storylines in the two adventures are similar in wackiness to those of the films. Still, it's a little disappointing not to get to see Wallace and Gromit _moving_, and you have to imagine Wallace's voice (though the authors did do a good job of conjuring up things he would be likely to say). There are a few rough spots, but in general it's a very good comic-type book, very funny and rereadable. If the Aardman folks don't see fit to make more Wallace and Gromit films, I hope there will at least be more "adventures" like this.

The plot of this book is fabulous, the art is superb and the colours are nice and bright! Of the new characters introduced, the best are Mr. Patel, Wallace's next-door neighbour, an expert on pigeons and prevailing wind conditions, and the hillariously funny Mr. Do-it-all, the Hotel Splendio's doorman, receptionist, porter, bell boy, gardener, barman, room-service operative, and owner: "It's a job share," according to Mr. Do-it-all.
I would recommend this book to anyone- if you've never seen Wallace and Gromit before, you should still read this book- it is absolutely brilliant.
