The book focuses on the issues between the have and have-not's in Texas society, scrutinizing who and how the power flows to and from. He states early a theory that would qualify as the theam of the remainder of the book. Specificly that some day the lower classes will rise up in a psudo-marxist revolution and wrest the power away from the ruling classes and restore democracy to the second most populace state in the union. Beyond the flaws in the logic of that argument, Dr. Davidson never adequatly explains how the downtrodden will rise nor does he explain why they have not, only stating the enevetability of that truth.
As an account of the recent history of politics in Texas government, this is an adequate book. As a text for a class on Texas politics it would be sub-par. As an enjoyable read, well I would suggest that you could do a great deal better with your time and money.
