excellent, comprehensive work
I have used Dr. Gormly's book for several years as the required reading in my Development courses...her book is unique in that it is not patronizing of the reader (as are several other Development texts), is clearly written, and does not contain "padding" as is found in too many other texts. I am looking forward to the next edition of her fine book!

Enjoyable and Informative
I was impressed with Dr. Gromly's ability to condense such vast information. Great textbook -- well presented!

Comprehensive view of human development!
I liked the section narratives; they helped give a realsitic perspective of th developmental stages.

The photos were delightful.

Troubled Memory: Anne Levy, the Holocaust, and David Duke's Louisiana

A Voice of Righteous Rage
This story chronicles the survival of small Jewish girls who were hidden in an armoire by their desperate parents in the closing days of the Warsaw ghetto. It easily matches the personal resonance and innocent terror of the far more famous Anne Frank Story.

Even after their final liberation as perhaps the only intact nuclear family to survive that infamous ghetto, the Skorecki family was due one more date with history. Survival, it turns out, was the story within the story. Little Anne Skorecki Levi, the little girl who survived by staying silent inside that armoire struck a blow five decades later for Jewish survival by speaking out against Louisiana's Neo-Nazi gubernatorial candidate David Duke, and helping to engineer his electoral defeat.

This account of Anne's travel along the arc from victim to victor is an inspiration and a reminder that each of us can and must preserve our collective memory, however troubling.

a tour de force of writing.....
I read books on the Holocaust to try to understand the times, the mileu, the horror, and the suffering. After more than 20 books, I realize that I can only scratch the surface. I will, however, never stop reading because of my fear that someday the deniers and the downgraders might get the upper hand.

Thank you to the the author and Anne Skorecki Levy for relating a story that is very, very moving as well as insightful and timely.

a wonderful mix of memory and history
Lawrence Powell set out to write a book about the David Duke phenomenon, about how a KKK leader and Nazi could sit in the Louisiana legislature and run for the U.S. Senate as a Republican. But work on the book took him in another direction after he interviewed Anne Levy, a Holocaust survivor who confronted Duke in the state capital. Captivated by Levy's story, Powell has produced a terrifying, poignant and finally a triumphant book about the Holoaust as witnessed through the life of one of its survisors, Anne Levy.

Troubled Memory is a beautifully written and tender account of a personal story that stands as an intimate history of Hitler's final solution. Powell's prose will carry you into the Warsaw and Lodz ghettos and into the vegetable bin where 6-year-old Anne and her sister hid from the SS. This is a book that makes the Holocaust relevant to every reader. It will fill you with horror and wonder, and it will move you to tears.

Outstanding Book!
Having read more than 30 books on ADHD, I have found this one to be one of the best. It provides an excellent resource for understanding and diagnosing ADHD, as well as "overlapping" disorders, like ODD, and Conduct Disorder. This book is easy to read for parents, but probably a good book even for professionals who may be unfamiliar with the basics of this disorder. There is also a detailed section on treatment, including behavior management and medication. A very timely section covers obtaining special school services and classroom techniques for teachers. If you don't have any books yet on ADHD, this is a great one to start with and keep as a resource in your home library.

Good Practical Advice for Parents and Teachers
I have read over 10 books about ADHD. After you finally face that your child has ADHD you want to know how to help.

This book clearly explains how ADHD is addressed under IDEA and the 504 plan and how an IEP (Individual Educational Plan) fits is associated with both the IDEA and 504. It also gives recommendations about how to best use the IEP to your childs advantage.

This book also provides information about behavior modification. It explains what it is and how it works. This information should be helpful to any parent of an ADHDer.

There is also a chapter about "Classroom Techniques" that suggests some things that teachers can do to help the ADHD child be more successful and less disruptive in school. I will use the information in this chapter to help develop my child's IEP. I will also buy another copy of this book to give to my child's teacher and I'll put an amazon book mark at this chapter!

In summary, it's one of the most useful books about ADHD I've read. Get one for yourself and one for your child's teacher.

Sweet
This is a wonderful companion book to the Anne of Green Gables series. This treasury book will entertain kids and adult-kids with recipes, crafts, information on Green Gables, quotes from the books and illustrations. I gave this book as a gift to my 25 year old friend and she has really enjoyed it.

A must-read for any Anne fans
Just like the companion books to the Little House series, you'll love this collection of interesting facts, recipes, and projects that make re-reading the Anne books even more rewarding. This book provides the perfect background for so many aspect's of Anne's life, from cooking to schooling to gathering wildflowers. It's a wonderful read for girls just getting into the series as well as us 'old folks' who discovered L.M. Montgomery's magic years ago.

A book I will treasure!
I have loved Anne of Green Gables ever since I was a child. It is very hard to obtain Anne-books in the Netherlands, especially books like this one. But I am so glad I ordered it! I only wish it had a lot more pages...! The illustrations are beautiful and the stories about 19th century life on PEI are very pleasant to read. I recommend this book to any Anne fan!

Five Stars for an Original Winner!
Kathryn L. Robyn's book, Spiritual Housecleaning, could be subtitled, "Healing the Space within by Reading about Beautifying the Space Around You." But that would not be Robyn's message. To heal, you have to actually do the work. Somehow she doesn't make it feel like work. The book is so inspiring, I found myself cleaning out the refridgerator and pantry before I even finished it. The book is entertaining, insightful, witty, down to earth, even poignant. Its spiritual ideas span ancient and contemporary philosophies of the East and West alike. As a person in a helping profession, I can attest to its psychological accuracy as well. As creative as it is practical, I have never read a book that combined such welcome simpicity and complexity under one cover. On second thought, I have never read such a book, period. Cudos to Ms. Robyn for a real original.

Finally a book that inspires as well as educates.
What I love about this book is that it made me want to clean, and inspired me to reorganize. The importance of which can not be underestimated!

I have read most of the organizing and Feng Shui books out on the market, and while each have had their value, not one of them inspired me to do much of anything.

Spiritual Housecleaning, on the other hand, is filled with breath and spirit. It taught me HOW to understand and enjoy the process. As a result, I was able to feel my way through many of the difficult tasks, and keep my energy up long enough to get past my personal issues. A diehard employer of maid services, after the first week, I was able to reduce the number of hours my maid spends at my house. But there is more even beyond that, for the text is so rich in its content, it allowed me see past my comfortable cozy home, and into a place where I could be more supported. This is leading me to a much needed lifestyle change.

I highly recommend Spiritual Housecleaning to anyone who wants to make a change in their spiritual home.

Housecleaning Will Lift Your Spirits
When I began reading "Spiritual Housecleaning", my intention was to read the book through; then on second reading I would actually work the book, doing all the exercises and consciously evaluating every room of my home. It can't be coincidental that, by the time I was half way through, I had painted a bedroom, recarpeted my house, and replaced several items in my bathroom that I had avoided focusing on for some time...

In this book, Ms. Robyn touches you "where you live" with a delightful sense of humor and a gentle sense of understanding and encouragement. Anyone in any living situation who reads this book will come out the other side with a clearer idea of how their home environment affects them while learning how to create a more healing and "sacred" space for themselves.

The worst computer book ever written
This maybe the worst computer book ever written. The authors have a way of making even the simplest things complex. I surely can not recommend this book.

Very well written! Worth the price.
This book is massive and the price tag is a bit heavy as well, but trust me, it is worth the price. I'm a VB6 developer trying to make the transition to VB.NET. I analyzed a number of different books, including those published by Microsoft Press, and ultimately decided on this one for its thoroughness. Overall, the book is very well written, organized quite logically, and doesn't miss any details. On top of that, the bonus CDs you get with this "complete course" over just the book alone are incredible! I found most of the audio commentary extremely dry, and didn't really add much to the printed material, but the extra exercises and having all the code and answers right inline with the text was amazing.

The exercises at the end of each lesson are extremely challenging and really sound down the concepts into your mind. For example, on the chapter dealing with arrays, including sorting and searching, one of the exercises is to rewrite the QuickSort algorithm that Microsoft uses natively in the Array.Sort method. This exercise really impressed on me how to get the most out of recursive functions, and how to build efficient procedures.

Currently, I'm only about 400 pages into this 1500+ book, but I'm eagerly looking forward to finishing it. To be honest, I think this book is better than taking an instructor-led course. I can't wait for Advance VB.NET to come out from Deitel so I can tackle that as well.

Bottom line, buy this complete course. You won't regret it.
