Good book for teenagers!
The military services spend tens of millions of dollars on advertising to attract young people to their ranks. Supported by school guidance counselors as a prime career option the system enlists hundreds of thousands of low income teens. What happens next? Read this book to understand why such a high proportion of our nation's homeless and mentally ill are veterans. This pocket sized paperback is based on a larger hardcover version called Hell, Healing and Resistance.

Profoundly disturbing
This book gave me great insight into the trauma to people's lives as a result of war and the war machine. It is profoundly written and the subject is sensitively handled. I'm sure not everyone will agree with the author's view point, but it sure helped me to have better understanding for the war veterans I come in contact with.

The best automobile how-to book I've read!
Automobile Aerobics has been read by thousands of people across the country who are searching for the best values in buying, leasing or selling new or used cars. Reviews have come back from many of these people saying this is the best automible how-to book I've read as it gives me the ins and outs of the business. In fact, the author Daniel Levy, who personally consults with people searching for the best deals, sometimes lends the book to them himself and they always learn from it and always thank him for writing it

Broad perspective. Harsh truths. Quick read. Effective.
Best and shortest of three books I read on the subject. Comprehensive in subjects covered but written with brevity in an easy-to-read style. Covers issues that most car buyers should (but do not) consider (ex: selecting a dealer, buying accessories, servicing the vehicle). Most of the hard-nosed negotiation tactics are simple, easy to apply and effective. Some of the end-game tactics may require a leap-of-faith for the more inexperienced negotiators. Author needs to update book to cover dealer holdbacks and add some meat to section on leasing. Combine this with an Edmund's guide (Better: go to http://www.edmund.com) and a Consumer Reports review to be fully prepared

a laughing good time
This tiny chap book is a wonder of wit and proverbial wisdom. Having read this so many times, I find myself crossing paths with situations in life that immediately bring many of these epigrams to mind, to the tip of the tongue where they seem to dance so nicely, so succinctly. Laughing fits a many, lends itself to good hysterics. Read it and weap.

Unbiased relation
A fifth grader will be tasked to write a book report on some prominent figure from the history of the United States. A Jr. High student will be given the same assignment and asked to elaborate and draw conclusions about that person on their own. A graduating senior will also write their thesis on someone of their choice, but will be forced to check the accuracy of the authors they reference in their bibliography.

Dan Murph's book about Price Daniel is the book that these students will choose. The intimate knowledge that the author has of one "Texas Giant" is remarkable and is not merely a book of words organized into neat little paragraphs. Rather, Dan Murph has provided unbiased insight into one man's life and has clearly shown how one man can make a difference.

What ifs drive more storylines than a Star Trek sequel. The author's description paints a vivid landscape for the reader to draw his/her conclusion with regards to, "What if the Electoral College had been done away with?" Would it change the introduction by George Bush? What if...What if...What if? The answers are within the pages of this book.

A Woman that Reads
I actually know the author, Daniel Price. As my professor in a class entitled "The Human Situation," Dan adds a particular vision full of vibrancy, light, and poetic significance to a dry and ruthless pursuit like philosophy.

The complexity of the issues at hand are to be dealt with with a certain level of complexity - it may seem an unintelligible mess at first, but the book (and Dan) break the boundaries of thought established by previous thinkers, pointing to a more relevant and provocative movement in the philosophical arena.

The true value of the book is to be measured out in personal evaluation - a timid mind, incapable of qualification of questioning is to be readily offended and prepared to attack on a personal level. "Why, this man is insane. Why, this book is to be burned, as with all great literature."

That's the point. That's its beauty - there is no basic "answer," nor any axiomated place into which all emotions and reactions can be jammed. And people can't deal with it. Their perfect lives may run into a feeling of restlessness.

That's why it's groundbreaking. That's why there's a very small audience. That's why Nietzsche was ostracized, went insane, and died of an STD in a whorehouse. Now, of course, Dan isn't a man of the brothel. Nor does he seem to be too concerned with morality, either.

Radical ideas are the brilliant ideas of tomorrow; any conservative lifestyle leads to an empty life full of limitation. Radicalism eliminates certain bindings of rationality, which bring freedom about much more easily than a restrained, unexamined life.

Buy this book - burn it, frame it, kick it, or keep it on your nightstand. But read it - let it jostle those deeply embedded ideals and tweak them just enough to make you uncomfortable - you'll find it much more worthwhile to have thought about it and acted accordingly than to have never thought it at all.

How to Make a Journal of Your Life
Published in Paperback by Ten Speed Press (1999)

Inspiring!
This book is a great example of how illustrations in your journal can add interest and make your memories come alive. Fun ideas, like having friends at the breakfast table draw the salt shaker! Right on! This book really turned my journal writing around making it fun and interesting.

Ready, Set, Create!
If you've ever thought of starting a journal but didn't know where to begin you have Dan Price to show you the way. His handwritten book on how to write, document, illustrate and doodle a journal is priceless. He makes it look easy and super fun! I suggest you get this book to help get you excited about journaling!

Indescribably delightful!
This book was SUCH a fun read! Dan Price's book on keeping a journal is quirky, inspiring, humorous, delightful, and educational! If you haven't kept a journal before, you will really want to start after reading this book! Actually, I doubt that you could read through the whole thing without beginning.

I've been journaling pretty steadily for the past 4-5 years or so. One thing I've really wanted to include is more doodling and (attempts at) drawing. I consider myself artistically-challenged, and this book really has encouraged me to give drawing in my journals a try.

Some other reviewers have stated that they've read this book in one sitting. I daresay that's POSSIBLE, but I wouldn't WANT to read it in one sitting. It's just so packed with stuff and so good that I wanted to savor it!

Scrapbookers would also benefit from reading this book!

Take a look at Amazon's great "Look inside" feature to look at this book, then order one for yourself and several for gifts - you won't be sorry!

Aromatherapy for professioanals
This is a very welll written book but I feel it is not for someone who has just started exploring aromatheray. The summaries are very helpful. This is not a book you could read in one day for sure. It is full of interesting facts but at times one wants to just get into the healing sections quicker. I would suggeast this book to others but they would do better to get intro books on aromatheray if they are new to the field.

What I was looking for....
I had read several books on essential oils and aromatherapy. Some were filled with anti-Western medicine rhetoric, others were focused on cosmetics, while others contained good anecdotes with recipes interspersed. I use these, but was looking for something else, which I couldn't really articulate.

I haven't finished reading this, but it is exactly what I was looking for. It combines practical application with reasonable science while focusing on healing.

The book is written in the context of the UK medical system, which doesn't match the US system very well, but it isn't hard to generalize the concepts to a different venue.

In the back are several appendices listing the recommendations and summarizing the findings.

Definitely worth the time and money.

Comment from a Health Professional
As a Health Education Specialist it is my job to work with clients in finding ways to improve their health. It is also my job to provide the most acurate health information. I make a point to check and double check any informational source that I might use as reference in considering possible avenues.

I have found this book to be extremely helpful in making such decisions pertaining to aromatherapy. It is full of actual case studies, physicians reference notes, reasonable scientific methodology, and sound references. This is one of the only books that I know of that successfully convinced me of the possible use of aromatherapy with more traditional allopathic methods.

If you should choose to pursue aromatherapy as a means to improving your ailments, I do stress that you address your concerns and your plans with your physician to ensure not only the best possible outcome but, your safety as well.

Reject the telephone as a simulacra of communication!
In this second book, George Ritzer pushes his general thesis to extremes that become nearly absurd. To pretend that credit cards are a simulacra of money is true, but money is a simulacra of bartering. To reject credit cards because they are a simulacra is like rejecting the market place and that would make us go back to what ? When were commercial exchanges between people not using some tokens, some simulacra of the value of the exchanged goods ? But he even goes further : organized tourism or cruises are a simulacra of the discovery of a new territory. We can discuss the simplification such organized tourism brings, but should we go back to the old « tourism » of previous centuries and reintroduce colonialization, the genocide of encumbering populations, slavery, and some other side-effects (that were rather the direct objectives) of such adventures ? Same thing with Disneylands and other entertainment parks. They are only the development of the old fairs and festivals of previous centuries that took place on market day or on some special occasions, like carnivals and pilgrimages and some others. The only difference is that we can visit such parks all year around, and if some are intellectually limited, the number of those who go deeply into some topics are numerous, and, would I say, more and more numerous, presenting sciences, technology, history, geography, and many other topics. And the mass-basis of these make them cheap, a lot cheaper when we take into account the amount of subject matter. And we can have in a short period of time and in the same locale a tremendous amount of information that we could only have through long and tiresome research before. This leads us to the Internet. A simulacra of communication or research ? Certainly not. A new dimension of communication and research. It might be used in an underdeveloped way. But it does not have to be that and people are learning, provided schools, universities and social institutions lead them into it, incite them to do it. An interesting point of view but we must remain very alert not to be thrown into some kind of retrograde ideology. Would anyone ever think of rejecting the telephone as a simulacra of communication ? Dr Jacques COULARDEAU, Paris Universities II and IX.

Applying the thesis to actual life
Ritzer has taken his popular McDonaldization theory and applied it to a host of specific topics, such as the university (and sociology in particular), the work force, leisure and other areas of life. He builds not just on his work but also on those who have taken his theory and built on it, as well as some of the masters in the social theory realm. For those who are interested in this theory, this is an invaluable addition to the body of work.

A great book, to read for all people!
As a student in Norway, going on the course sociology, this was a great book to read. I`m going to have a review of this book at my course, in front of my professor , and the rest of my class. And i will only say good things about that book. The book contains good things about Max Weber, Karl Mannheim.

A another thing whit this book, is that Georg Ritzer is using easy words, good langue and its easy to understand.

I requment this book to all, either you are a student in sociology, or regular student. Even so if you arent a student, it is a good book to read, for to understand what is the McDonaldization thesis.
