Rollicking rhyme and whimsical mouse illustrations
Monique Felix's inviting mouse illustrations in Robert Lewis Stevenson's My Shadow provides an inviting mix of rollicking rhyme and whimsical mouse illustrations. Kids will learn a new appreciation of the poetic style will enjoying the mouse's lively adventures.

Simply Beautiful
This classic poem by Robert Louis Stevenson displayed by wonderful illustrations! Penny Dale's talent shines in the clear pictures, that re a joy to look at over and over again. It only made the poem better for me, and my entire classroom of 5 year olds!

Great picture book!
MY SHADOW (illustrated by Ted Rand) is on our short list for best picture book. Our four kids all loved the pictures and, of course, the poem. I would recommend the book as a toddler picture book rather than a beginning reader--the pictures are beautiful and engaging and the poem is suitable for little children.

Such a sweet, comforting book!
My five year old son and I just love this book. I found it especially nice as the mother and daughter so close--with mother nurturing and caring and daughter wanting to be like mom. Also I love that they showed the Mom nursing her baby.

I know it by heart!
My daughter loves this book. She will ask for this book a couple times a week and we have had it well over a year! A very sweet story that my 3 year old can't live without!

A soft, loving story about a little girl and her mother
Rosie's Babies draws us into the 'pretend' world of the little girl Rosie and her teddy and rabbit - her 'babies', as she tries to keep her mother's attention during the bathing, feeding and putting to bed of their new baby. Both the mother and the daughter are warm, caring and nurturing and Rosie's reports of how she looks after her babies are very touching. My (then) two-year-old son loved this book as we awaited the arrival of his new baby brother, and now, a year and a half later, it's a firm favorite on the bookshelf. The 'punchline' of the story reminds us what it's really all about ' 'Don't forget me, Mommy!'

Well, it's MY favorite bedtime storybook ...
My kids are tired of reading it, but sometimes I read it anyway. I love looking at the camping scene. Perfect book for very young ones ...

A wonderful book for sparking the imagination
This is the ideal bedtime story book. The text is simple and repetitive, always popular with little kids, but the pictures are full of detail and great to talk about. My son and I have spent a lot of time going through his copy, finding each toy on every new page and chatting about what they are doing.

Great toddler bedtime book
My 2-1/2 year old son loves this book. He likes to sit in bed while I read it, and then go to sleep with the book in bed next to him. I think he likes it so much because he sleeps with several stuffed "critters" just like this little boy does. Great pictures, not a lot of words, very cute book.

endless pleasure for parents and children
A beautiful book for children! There are elements of surprise and the children have the opportunity to look for toys that are hiding. Penny Dale is so clever to leave a paw poking out here or an ear there to raise the children's imagination as to what animal is hiding. Children can learn the names of different toy animals and it teaches children to count as well. then, who is still missing? buy this book and parents will have endless hours of fun ... and the kids too! what a lovely book to cuddle up and share with your children and you will never tire of it.

A Visual Treasure
The illustrations in this book are outstanding. They definately capture the reader's eye (young or old). Also the language in this book is terrific. As a teacher of hearing impaired children, I highly recommend this book!

Ready or not, it's time for bed!
A great bedtime book, it shows a toddler getting ready for bed by playing hide-and-seek with a playful collection of stuffed animals. Your child will enjoy the search for his hidden friends and you can help by giving clues! The story is also a wonderful way to introduce your toddler to numbers and counting. A nice companion to "Ten Out of Bed", also by Penny Dale.

Lots of fun on this mushroom hunt!
Loved this book! It is full of beautiful illustrations and interesting facts about mushrooms, interwoven with a story of a family going into the mysterious woods searching for mushrooms. The little girl stomps on puffballs and brown spore dust bursts out. The little boy pulls up a large gray mushroom and sees threads of fungus under a pile of dead leaves. The family walks home under the moonlight. There are full page illustrations of the woods in autumn, and smaller drawings of various mushrooms, very beautifully done.

Such a nice book!
Now I have to admit one of the main reasons I bought this book is I have a five year old named Joe. Also that I love Martine Waddell's books and Panny Dale's illustrations. And I wasn't disappointed one bit. The story is so nice and shows how a family is so cosy together. The game Mom and Joe play is so imaginative. I highly recommend this book!

Better than some other "sharing" books
I've seen my share of "sharing" books that attempt to teach kids sharing, and this is one of the best. Unlike some "sharing" books that teach kids that it's OK to be selfish, this one models good behavior while at the same time showing that when the brothers are selfish, they hurt the other brother's feelings.

The illustrations capture in exquisite detail the facial expressions of the children, so there is a lot more to this book than the written text. Children especially can read the subtext from the illustrations. Even small children recognize the mixture of surprise, frustration, and hurt that plays across the little brother's face as his big brother tells him he can't play with his truck.

Best book for brothers!!
I bought this book when I was pregnant with my second son. By the time my older son was 2 1/2, he was reading it to his one year-old brother by memory!! The pages have been taped and retaped, they are so well-read!! The illustrations are exquisite! The story is beautiful!! What a sweet, sweet story that celebrates the love between two brothers!

Big Brother, Little Brother
I loved this book and so did my 4 year old and 2 year old. It seems like they can both really relate to the brothers in the book. It is a book that they want read over and over. The illustrations are fabulous!

A nice short tale for toddlers
We have a baby daughter and a boy who is three years old, so this tale was welcome. The story, at 32 pages, was just long enough to hold the toddler's attention. The illustrations were warm and attractive. Our baby already has teddy bears gracing her bed, so we had visual aids to help the older boy understand the point of the book. A good read for those facing the same situation.

Gentle Sibling Story
We bought this book for our three year old a few months before his brother was born. We all loved it. It is a good story to stimulate discussion of a new or soon-to-arrive sibling, yet it doesn't have all of the negative acting out some other books of this genre contain. (Julius, Baby of the World, for one.) Another thing I liked about this book is that there are plenty of other things to focus on besides the sibling story so on nights when it turned out our toddler didn't want to talk about that, we could spend time talking about the bears and their names or all the ways they arrived. We ended up naming our new baby's teddy bear "Alice" in honor of this book. It was a nice way for our older guy to feel connected to the little one.

Strikes just the right note
We really like this book -- we've been reading it to our 3-year-old in anticipation of the birth of his baby sister, and he loves it. It strikes just the right note, subtly bringing up the displacement that older kids feel when a new baby is born, without becoming a huge negativity-fest the way that so many books in this genre (unfortunately) are. It's warm, full of love, and reassuring -- a great choice for the older-sibling-to-be.

wonderful illustrations
This is a favorite of mine, because of the wonderful illustrations of the different homes the animals live in. I've read it often to my two kids, now ages 2 and 5. I love seeing inside the intricately drawn households of the zebra family, the hedgehog family, etc. The pictures capture a lot of fun between the various animal playmates, and seem to fill in the story above and beyond the text: an elephant giving her rabbit friend a showerbath, a spirited game of hide and seek, and the wonderful treehouse draped in colorful cloths. I think except for the illustrations in Wild Child, I've never seen illustrations I like as much as those in this book. The story is warm and nurturing to the extreme--sometimes I wish Daisy were stronger and took things more into her own hands (mom rabbit is the one to come up with a plan)...but it does send a message that families can find solutions to problems, and it shows good examples of kindness and friendship, too.

Fun for young (preschool) children.
On a search for an "elephant tree", a variety of animals in their natural habitat (namely trees)are encountered along the way. Young children appear to enjoy the repeating pattern of the question, "Is this the elephant tree?" and getting to answer, "No, it's the (monkey)tree!" The illustrations are delightful and clearly illustrate the print.
